Also, when you folk take pics, are you ACTUALLY listening to the record, or just have it placed on the turntable taking a photo of it?

 

I only use my iPhone to take pics, but I can never get good shots of splatters/streaks/haze/marble unless I pretend to be playing it. But fuck that shit

I'm actually listening to the record. The actual record looks nothing like it does in this picture because it's spinning, and I'm using a Nikon D5200.

I can tell that's spinning by the look of the weight. I only come in here every few weeks so I catch up on a couple of pages at a time. And sometimes you just look at a pic and think, that is not spinning

I know what you mean; unless people are using really fast shutter speeds on higher end DSLRs they've got to be not spinning for some of the definition people were getting.

If there's enough available light, a camera used in auto could have a fast enough shutter speed to freeze motion. Flash will do the same. Ideally, you want to show the movement of the record otherwise it just looks like a record sitting on a turntable. Unless that's what you're going for.
