  1. Fuck. $50 for the /100? My collecting days for Restorations may be coming to a screeching halt.

Extremely excited for this release, though!

No, $50 for that and for a mug and coffee. Record collecting is for actual yuppies now (nothing against NPR, but the video stream there seems super appropriate too).

But seriously. I'd feel like a jackass buying that.

  2. Which is exactly what happened with the fan club, right? "We know you're still waiting on the product we didn't deliver, but for double the price, you can sign up next year for the same quality service."

Deleted a longer rant because I didn't even order this so why bother. But it's a shame there isn't more of a value placed on the fans of this band. Not sure where that is coming from, but it's pretty obvious there's an issue here that needs to be sorted quickly. Can't think of many other major (or smaller) releases that consistently get so weird and messed up.

Brand New POs aside, of course.

  3. Here's the video of the Vintage Vinyl show. Audio's kind of buried, but you get the idea. I like the record a lot and thought the songs came across really well live for the most part. I'm sure after a few more nights playing them out, they'll sound really awesome. A couple nice surprises in the set too. Definitely glad I made it to this one, especially since I can't bring myself to sit through seeing them at the other Jersey date on the tour. Hate that venue.

  4. I take my original review of this album (in this thread) back. It's great. Clicked after the third play through and been listening non-stop. I came on board with this band before sink or swim was released (though I didn't buy it on black back then, ouch) and was psyched about their progression until American Slang, which I still can't really listen to save for four or five songs. Thought Handwritten was trash, still do.

But while Handwritten was awkward and sounded like they were trying to go for something that didn't quite work, this one nails it. It's the first one that Brian described as different that actually sounds it and throws aside the notions of the band that were obviously starting to bring the quality down in his songwriting. And although it's not typically a sound in music that I'm drawn to, it works here and they sound confident enough to play it. And the songwriting and lyrics are, for the most part, inspired again, albeit in a different style. That's been lacking for awhile in my opinion. Time will tell if I keep playing it as much as I am now, but it's definitely a good one. Glad to have a little renewed faith in this band.

Hate Underground though. Only song I skip. Never thought you could rip off The National so poorly.

  5. Haha why didn't I guess you're from RAA. Makes total sense. I forgot how riled up you sycophants can get over DRA and his music. Also explains the Deadhead "you haven't listened to the show recordings" argument. Used to love when posters from altcountry.org would register at RAA, mess with the crybabies, and get their IP addresses banned for life in a matter of minutes. Great times.

Also, fine if you don't like the band, but who are you to deem them unprofessional? Is that really a justified criticism? For instance, as much as I don't like Casal's awful music, I'd never call him unprofessional. Kind of a low blow, not that I'm surprised.
