May have to get in on this one. Just landed in Nashville so I'll be hitting up Third Man in person here in a few hours!
-
I've only been posting here for a month or so but I've seen some stuff that's made me think about stopping. Overall, the info I've gained has outweighed the negatives though.
-
A REAL FAN should have known about the release, saved up and made plans to get it.
A REAL FAN should quickly move on and be happy with the record on black or whatever non-limited variant there might be.
Right. Which is why I do so myself. But you see, not everyone has the same set of circumstances.

To me it's only considered flipping when you buy something just to turn around and sell it for a profit. Kind of the same concept of flipping a house for a profit. You buy a house never intendening to live in it but instead want to "flip" it to someone else for more than you paid.
This.
The profit doesn't matter to me, it's whether or not you bought something just to turn around and sell it. The intent pisses me off more than the profit amount because that item could have ended up in a real fans hands instead of that of someone with no interest in it whatsoever outside of possibly making money on it.

Please tell me there will be a regular NON-PIC vinyl released?
God I hope so. I simply despise picture discs.

Boooo
When Timbaland is at his best, he's amazing. His stuff with Aaliyah, Ginuwine, Missy Elliott, and the first two JT albums are unfuckwithable as far as 2000s pop goes. Also, 75% of Shock Value is musically awesome. Maybe an unpopular opinion, but he gets a bad rap for no reason IMHO.
I can dig someone else having a different opinion on his work. It's just that for me it all seems to sound the same. Sometimes I like his style and sometimes it just gets my eyes to glaze over, ya know? Almost like too much of it at once maybe?
Take for example the song Come Around by MIA. Produced by Timbaland and it's the only track on Kala that is. So when I hear the record, I'm ok with that one track sounding "like Timbaland's usual stuff" because the rest of the record doesn't.

I just started my vinyl collection and have 9 so far, 6 new 3 used. I should start with a new vinyl or used first? and what will be the sound difference?
thanks
Like the (helpful) posts in this thread have said, it depends on a couple of things. For example, I've got some Queen original pressings that I bought because they were in good shape and they sound fantastic. I've got some re-issues that I bought brand new that sound great too. So unless it's something where the original version is notorious for sounding bad, then go for the lesser expensive one that it's in good shape.

Picked up some used stuff today:
Cream-Strange Brew: The Best of Cream
Dutch Pink-Times New Roman
Lionel Richie-Lionel Richie
Rolling Stones-It's Only Rock N' Roll
Justin Timberlake-Justified
Suzanne Vega-Solitude Standing -
Pretty sure the acoustic is still up on victory's webstore. I know, it's Victory, but that's the only place I've seen it.
Thanks, I'll check for it there.

I'm from just north of downtown Detroit so I should be ok, but I appreciate the heads up nonetheless.
I'm beside myself excited to hit up both places!
-
Didn't mean to light the fuse on this, just wanted to share my set up.
I'm hip to VC overall, the only unpleasant experience I've had was the one reply to my post. I can live with that
-
haha I just went for that, too
I did the same thing. Now I'm pretty sure I'm gonna grab Justified when I see it just to have it.
-
I'm really hoping that the second half wasn't produced by Timbaland. Everything he produces just sounds the same and it's pretty much ruined this album for me.
-
I was going to hit up Hot Topic to grab this for the Mrs. but it turns out I had the wrong album in mind. Apparently it's their acoustic album she really wants, not the covers record.
-
Nugent-Double Live Gonzo
Depeche Mode-Delta Machine

I dont own too many third man records but on my recent trip to Nashville I visited the store. It was a real cool experience. They have a machine in there that makes a wax guitar. Photo booth etc. I was dissapointed with the size and merch of the store but I was still over joyed to be there.
I'm going to Nashville on business in a few weeks, I'm excited to hit up Third Man and Grimeys.

Is it really being sold as a "masterpiece" though? I mean, he's been EVERYWHERE promoting it, but it's because he's a huge star who's the rare combo of being insanely popular/marketable and actually good. It's been really overhyped, and people are definitely raving about how good it is, but I don't think many people one here (or maybe in general) would call it a masterpiece. Maybe I'm wrong. I really like it, but it's definitely not perfect. Not even close.
Ah. I didn't mean to insinuate that anyone on here was selling it as a masterpiece.
-
Missed out on the webstore order. I may just swing by a Hot Topic and grab it for her.
-
I am a big Justin Timberlake fan.
Maybe I'm missing something, but I'm not a big fan of this album.
I don't think you are, no. I'm not sold on it. I own it and overall I'm glad I do but I don't think it's anywhere near the masterpiece it's being sold as.

Second hand: Alice in Chains - Self-titled
Almost picked this up the other day. It was a promo copy with a cut corner and they were still asking $50 for it so I passed. I'd love to grab it someday as I love Heaven Beside You and Grind.

nin-The Downward Spiral
Thomas Dolby-Blinded By Science
T'Pau-Heart And Soul 12" single

records are for listening. not hot gluing to your wall. completely retarded
No need to refer to something you wouldn't choose to do as "completely retarded".
Those 45s are all beyond repair and/or listenable so I chose to use them as decoration to surround my music listening area with music.

I finally found Nancy Sinatra's Greatest Hits today. She only has a couple tunes I really loved so I'd been searching for a best of instead of buying a couple LPs to get what I like from her. I was glad I finally found it today.

I happened to find the 45/You Got Lucky 7" at a local record store today for $4 so I grabbed it. Not a big Gaslight fan, but I loved that Petty song as I kid so I figured I should grab their cover of it.

Same here. I ended up buying the last Vault package off eBay but this is the one I may just sign up for.
