Got my VIP order from Joyful Noise yesterday. As others have said, it's a really well constructed package and the lemon/cotton candy swirl looks great. I only gave it one run through, but the pressing sounds aces -- I think Richard's voice comes through more than on the digital files (where it felt a little buried in the mix), but that could just be my setup.
 
Personal favorites off the record so far are Management of Savagery (which gives me an Animal vibe, from the ambiance and the presumed focus on cults) and Pornographic Teens. Moonwrapped is also incredible -- probably the most personal song he's ever written, and it feels like a beautiful dovetail into another chapter (and maybe the next record).

As far as I can tell, this one hasn't really hit DC yet. Crooked Beats owner said they way underpressed this round, and the pre-orders massively exceeded the available units. At this point I may hold out for the inevitable colored variant.

They totally replaced the rest of the band, outside of the lead singer Art, so these aren't even the same artists who played on the original versions. I'd definitely pass on this -- and SRC should update their listing to reflect that fact (especially given their refusal to give cash refunds for cancellations).

If Cake never said "limited to 900", these represses wouldn't (or at least shouldn't) be a thing. It's the fact that folks made decisions based on that information (camping in line, overpaying, buying a set they may have been on the fence about due to scarcity), and are seeing it all walked back less than a week later. 
 
It's great that Cake is accommodating their fans, but people are entitled to be annoyed given that this was advertised as a RSD-exclusive, limited production run.

They're allowing ALL of us to be milked by biting on shit like this. This "well record X went for [insane sum of money] on ebay, so this isn't that bad... I'll pre-order" mentality is causing prices to go up across the board.
 
If releases like this collect dust at $40, they'll cut the price and hopefully price future releases accordingly. Oh, and still make a tidy profit in the process.

So... the moment people start posting about getting shipping notifications left and right (I personally got mine around 6 am this morning) is when you hit your breaking point? None of these are behind schedule (it's still within their promised week for shipping), and there are multiple postings here about the high quality of the pressings.
 
If you thought it was such a rip off, why did you order it in the first place and what kept you from cancelling or starting a dispute weeks ago? Sounds to me like you heard some folks are accidentally getting their cancelled orders filled and you want in on the action (which, at this point, is fraud).

That applies to unordered merch that just shows up at your door, which I believe is designed to keep from companies shipping you unsolicited goods and then attempting to collect on them (i.e. "Oh we sent you a leather coat a month ago... did you open it? Well then you owe us $400").
 
If you ordered, and cancelled or filed a claim, but it still shipped by accident things aren't as clear cut and the rule your citing doesn't apply.

Seems there are just 5 of them in stock. Perhaps they finally got around to noticing those attempted cancellations/charge backs...
 
Disappointing to hear that they aren't gatefold, but the sound being top notch is great news. Anyone receive OOTV yet? Any of these have extra tracks beyond the uncensored version of Slow Motion?

No, I'm with you on this and approached it in the same way. You're getting a limited variant, hand numbered 7" with two very good songs (and a shot at an extremely limited color run) -- not just hastily put together throwaways, along with a film they self produced (people keep leaving that out for some reason) that features a tone of stripped down live renditions of songs from the album, a t-shirt -- which if it's half as good as the last one, I'll wear fairly regularly and free shipping.
 
Yeah the tote is whatever, but this is a band that's self-funded and as Jonny said, if this was a kickstarter, we would all probably be tripping over ourselves to pay for these and support this band. If this helps them do a wider tour and record albums I'm the future, it's worth it.

Personally, I'd buy the box set since I don't own any of their LP's yet (and to be fair, you could probably resell Blue or S/T for whatever this collection of 4 albums will run you). But if you're not as invested in their catalog, I'd have to imagine that they'll release them all individually down the line.

I actually like this model, my concern is more with Universal's track record with vinyl. They have a spotty history when it comes to doing proper remasters and quality checks on their releases.
