PO Now: pg.lost – It’s Not Me, It’s You! 2xLP
omik11303 replied to The Vool's topic in Vinyl Collective Message Board
I'm very happy that this is getting repressed, giving this album more exposure. My OP is one of my prized possessions and this is one of my favorite albums of all time so I may be a little bit biased, but I hope everyone that's been searching for this will be able to get a copy now. -
Love seeing this news. Great band and I love that cover art. Definitely picking this up.

Haven't had time to listen to it in full but I really liked the pieces of it I've heard so far. There's been a lot of quality under-the-radar albums released this year while all the big guns seem to be hibernating, which has created an interesting dynamic. I agree with you that 2018 is shaping up to be madness. -

Going to be very interesting to see how ES works with the release, given that one of the tracks is over an hour long. From what I've heard, that track is basically the rest of the album uncut with some additional interludes? All I know is that I couldn't get through the first two songs when I first tried to listen to this. Not my thing at all; very boring. I'm sure I'll try again, though, now that there's the incentive of pretty vinyl to motivate me... New Silent Whale can't come soon enough, on the other hand. -
I don't know what it is about this album, but I came back to it about a month ago and it's really clicking with me right now for some reason. I guess all the substandard post-rock that's coming out nowadays makes this stand out in starker relief? Whatever it is, it's working for me. I heard also that we should expect new material from these guys by summer's end, so that's something, at least!

For what it's worth, Gumbo, I appreciated the I/O notice. I remember when they released the first single off that album a while ago and I loved it but I totally forgot all about it until just now. So it was a nice little surprise for me. I wasn't a huge fan of Saudade but I think I'll enjoy this new one. -

Put me down for a copy of Refractions, Gumbo. We'll see if we can draw interest. -
The longest single LP I own (to my knowledge) is Echoes - The Pursuit at 54 minutes. Surprisingly it actually still sounds pretty good. I get the point though, and for the role that soft/silent sections play in SFFS I'm nervous that either a) the surface noise is gonna be overpowering, or b ) it just won't sound good at all. I'm also gonna wait a little bit to order, fwiw. If I hear these things are flying off the shelf then I will likely cave but for now there's no sense in jumping the gun.

This is actually so bizarre because historically my only complaint with Mono was their super tinny-sounding drum cymbals. Ridiculously specific, I know. But the sheer amount of time in "You Are There" that the drummer spent maintaining a beat on that cringeworthy ride cymbal made it almost unlistenable. Just weird to me that someone else picked up on it because I would never have brought it up myself haha. My two favorites of theirs are "One More Step..." and "The Last Dawn." Technically-speaking "Hymn..." is probably their best but for whatever reason it's tough for me to listen through in full. -

PO: Have Mercy - Make The Best Of It
omik11303 replied to dankdrew's topic in Vinyl Collective Message Board
Glad to see positive reactions toward this album. I agree it's miles better than the last one. I feel like this is a totally different animal that TEPB, so it's hard to compare the two, but there's no doubt in my mind that this will earn a spot on my year-end list.- 12 replies

Really surprised to see that no one had posted this in here yet (also possible I'm just bad at searching - but this might be the case anyway): https://heronband.bandcamp.com/ Arctic Drones posted a glowing review of it yesterday so I had to take a listed. I'd say it just about lives up to the praise. Very big Giants feel to it, so if that's your thing, definitely click the link and check it out for yourself. -

Pretty much my view, also. Their first EP is just a couple cuts above everything else for me. -

I was in tears by the fourth paragraph. Between this description and Derek's reaction, it was too much for me. Thanks for this; I needed a good laugh. -

I would say a comparison list shouldn't factor in to the music. These days, if a band has a FFO: EITS tag, I might not even listen to it. Already that shows no effort to distance themselves from any other post-rock groups, and that's before I've even listened to their music. I'd rather form my own tastes. Now, when albums are rec'd to me it's a little different. Generally this comes on forums like these where we're all passably familiar with each other's tastes so somebody can hear something, identify a similarity, and tag another person who would appreciate it in a Bandcamp link or what have you. Important not to overdo this, though.
