  1. Sadly this does prove the rule that there's one born every minute and probably means the gullible idiot ratio has been going up. At this rate I'm going to be able to make an absolute killing on all the Perry Como, Max Bygraves, Richard Clayderman, Acker Bilk and any other mindless tat records I've been hoarding in a lockup garage in Shoreditch, Retirement on Acapulco beach here I come.
  2. I got bored on Bank holiday Monday here as the weather was shite so I put together a silver system from some spare bits.
  3. There you go, so probably pressed in different places which could make quite a difference to the sound.
  4. Probably very little, they have different cat numbers so there must be something but I doubt it's much
  5. The thinner the oil the better, when the Thorens was made it would have been called light machine oil but there are a few different formulations of it now, have a quick search on ebay for turntable bearing oil and that should throw up a few alternatives. Also make sure you download the manual for your Thorens at the vinyl engine as it will give you the viscosity of the oil they recommend, what to oil and how much to use.
  6. I want to see some better pictures of it Ignoring the stupid name, vulgar colouring and wireless bollocks it's got an acrylic platter and what looks like a pretty good arm and plinth but I expect the pictures are mock-ups and deliberately vague so I expect I'll be suitably disappointed when I actually see the real thing
  7. It's the children I worry about, those 7" singles are always the innocents in these situations
  8. And another https://www.discogs.com/Nirvana-Nevermind-The-Bollocks-Heres-Nirvana/release/8399916
  9. Does anyone still need: Parkway Drive Noel Gallagher Mew (EU Version) Frank Turner (EU Version) I managed to pick up a spare of each, the Parkway drive has been opened but is still in it's shrink and I'm looking to trade rather than sell. The only thing I really need is the Jack White/Muppets 7 on green vinyl but there's probably other stuff I want that isn't necessarily RSD I'll be over in the US from the 18th of May so can bring any with me if needed. PM me if you think we can work out a trade
  10. Wood glue, it's not just for cleaning records you know, it can be used to stick stuff together as well
  11. My Heavenly order arrived today so I'm giving it a spin and liking what I'm hearing
  12. Some of the very best tables are belt drive and there are tables that cost more than a house that are belt drive so I expect pretty much everything you've heard about belt drive is pretty much bollocks
  13. Dave gets it. Your ears will tell you all you need to know. Also new isn't your only option and when you get right to the top of the tree with Stanton they do make some nice tables but like a Technics SL1200 you're paying a lot of money for it being a DJ table when a proper HiFi table in the same price range will sound better
  14. Unfortunately even if it was the right length you would never be able to get it to track properly because it will never angle in enough and to get it to angle in even close then the overhang would be off so basically Slinch has the correct visual representation for it. These tables are made to be cheap copies of the straight arm battle DJ tables where cuing accuracy is far more important for mixing than outright sound quality, trackability or record life for that matter, the problem is they are cheap so Stanton can shift a lot to budding bedroom DJ's who then get bored because this mixing shit is quite a bit harder than they thought and sell them on for peanuts. Don't get me wrong apart from the arm problem the basic table is fine but it's not easy to change the arm and even if you did it wouldn't make it any more valuable sadly, so try and find a failed bedroom DJ that bought tables with angled arms then you've got a much better basis for a usable table.
  15. For 120 that's pretty good, the arm alone must be worth that.
  16. There's two RP900's, the original one which is normal 70's Rotel and the more modern which yes is basically a re badged Rega although most had MDF platters but I have seen some with glass platters. If it's got a glass plater on then yes a glass platter is fine, much better than MDF but acrylic is preferable. Being Rega based though the sky's the limit upgrade wise and you can change and upgrade every single part of that deck so if the price is right it's worth a go
  17. Thought you might Nice possibly but it didn't stop me having a chuckle either, Assuming this is a new table with an acrylic platter the bit I find funniest is that Project would put the felt mat in there in the first place.
  18. I'd 2nd that, it's only straight arms with straight headshells though that get used on DJ decks like the Stantons that are the problem, HiFi straight arms have the headshells angled in at 18 degrees for proper tracking
  19. If it looks all in line and the tip is still attached then chances are it's fine but try it on something you know well but are not too worried about and see what it sounds like then.
  20. I've now managed to pick one up via ebay from a seller in Germany for a bit less than the average current selling price on ebay but it has been very very difficult to get my hands on one. ebay surprisingly has been cheaper than Discogs for this one and I expected the going rate for this after the day to be around the £90 to £100 mark where it seems to be on Discogs but it seems to have been on average £58 to £62 on ebay with the lowest one I've seen going for £45 which was a buy it now on RSD Itself. The general ebay price trend has been up though so I expect it will stay high for a good while at least if it ever drops at all. Edit They're back down to mid 50's to 60's on Discogs as well now
  21. Nope, No idea why they'd supply one so you've done nothing wrong using it as it's supplied but there is absolutely no need for it and I suspect it's there because it's part of the packing list when they assemble them, makes you wonder a bit how many other people do this and then say can't see what all the fuss is about with these acrylic platters. One of the major upsides of an acrylic platter is that it reduces static build up during play by a huge amount. You should also find it sounds a bit different without the mat as well, I won't put words in your mouth and tell what you should hear but let me know if you hear a difference without the matt and what it is.
  22. If you have an acrylic platter you don't use a mat at all, it defeats the object of having an acrylic platter in the first place.
  23. Always the first course of action in these cases, worked for me
