Imagine the caucasity it takes to actually sit down and compose a letter this long, while the entire gist of said letter is "IM LEABIN DIS GROUP WAHHH"

    My note to [email protected]:

    Hi,

I'm writing today to express my concerns over some recent advertising and quality control issues. I am one of the customers who was expecting to receive Doggystyle in a gatefold, tip-on jacket. I was very surprised when I received the record in a different jacket than was advertised. I was even more surprised to read the message from Cam on the forums, which suggested that the only remedy to this issue was to return the record for a refund. And I am most surprised (and extremely concerned) that no official communication has gone out to people who ordered the record. I am sure it isn't intentional, but this is an issue of false advertising - you not only told people they were getting a specific type of packaging, but you presented it as a selling feature of the record. I think you owe it to your customers to be completely transparent about the mistake was made. It is concerning to me, from an ethical standpoint, that this has not happened yet. This is a matter of trust.

I have experienced a number of shipping and quality control issues since joining the club. First, I purchased what I was told was a VMP exclusive version of Madvillainy, and received a standard version of it. In that case, I was refunded after I contacted support. I have since had problems with a number of records and the quality of the pressings. Some I have received replacements for - in the case of Tom Waits - Closing Time, I am on my 3rd copy, and all of them are extremely noisy. In the case of Beach House, I am still waiting for my replacement record. There have been a number of records I have purchased that were not as advertised - either they had packaging that was different from what was advertised, or the speed of the record was not made clear, or in the case of Miles & Coltrane, missing listening notes. In each case, VMP has "made things right" after the fact, but I have serious doubts now about ordering from VMP and receiving what I ordered, or receiving a good, working copy of the music.

I think I am a good customer. In 2018, I have purchased 66 records from Vinyl Me Please. Until I am comfortable that things are changing at Vinyl Me, Please, I will not be ordering any records above what I have already paid for. At this point, given the communication I have received as a customer, I have to vote with my wallet. It's a real shame. When things go well, it is a great club. But deliberately deceiving customers and not owning up to mistakes proactively is not behaviour that I can support.

Paul/Josh - If you could please forward this on to Cam and anyone else in the organization who is responsible for customer communication, I would greatly appreciate it.

    Regards,

  2. Check out my store on Discogs, getting rid of some stuff I don't listen to anymore:

Vinyl Collective members get lucky number 7% off everything and free shipping on orders over $20. Message me through here to take advantage of that deal. I'm open to trades and offers (but no bullshit offers please).

  3. I'm in Fort Lauderdale on the west side of NE Federal right across the street from the border of the evacuation zone lol. I decided to ride it out because I'm in a concrete fortress of a building that's above cat 5 surge elevation, and to make sure my records are okay. Earlier I lost power for about 15 minutes, FPL had it right back though and I haven't seen a flicker since. Luckily it looks like we're gonna miss the really bad stuff.

  4. Awesome, thanks for your advice. I wish I could put the speakers on separate stands but unfortunately don't have the space. I've been thinking about getting a new cart since I've been doing less DJing, so that will be my next move.

I looked into the preamp on the S4 and it seems Native Instruments are using the same preamp they used in their Audio 8/10 etc interfaces, which are great boxes. So I'll stick with it.

  5. Audiophiles, I need your help. So here's my setup:

I DJ sometimes, but lately it's more so just regular listening. Unless someone knows something I don't, the Traktor S4 in the middle has a phono preamp built in. It has a phono input and sounds fine. I have an Onkyo amp (top right corner) that I believe was intended to extend an existing system. It's different than a receiver, it just has a single set of RCA L & R inputs and outputs in the back. There is a small volume knob on the amp that I leave at about half-way, and I use the controller to adjust the volume.  I run the output from the Traktor S4 into the amp (probably obvious). My mom got the Onkyo years ago and never used it, so I took it, and it's been kicking for about  10 years and works beautifully.

Above the amp, I have a speaker switch box. My speakers are pretty budget, the outside ones are Sony's but had good reviews, and the ones on the window shelf thing are Yahama's that are decent sounding to me as well. I'm no audiophile however. I have the Yahama's so I can turn them around and listen to them in the room behind. Right now, I'm listening to both sets at once, and it sounds good to my ears. It seems to bring out the mids a lot more, and I still hear the stereo separation. Is there any reason I shouldn't be doing this?

Before I start rambling more, I guess I'm just looking for someone knowledgeable to critique what I'm working with. My apologies if this has been addressed before, I did a couple searches but couldn't find anything relevant.  And thanks in advance!
