Official Record Store Day Thread
TheGhostOfRandySavage replied to timsimmons's topic in Vinyl Collective Message Board
Pretty happy. Ended up with everything I wanted, though I had to order The Dismemberment Plan and probably overpaid by about $5. Ended up with the Beach House EP, The Sword, Magnetic Fields, RZA, Frances the Mute, and a discounted copy of the newest Cloud Nothings - Attack On Memory reissue. Plus of course the ordered Dismemberment Plan. -

I think this one will be easy enough to come by. My shop had so many stacks of it. -

Wow. Thought I waited long enough to miss the crowd, but there is still a huge line right now. 4 hours after opening. Jeez. -
Vagrant 25 Years Vinyl Represses
TheGhostOfRandySavage replied to hyperg1ant's topic in Vinyl Collective Message Board
The 2017 press had a little bit cut off Fatally Yours, and a number of then sound...less than great. I've got the 2017 and it doesn't bother me too much, but a good pressing would be great. -

These are the kind of questions I'm asking myself about this and the 2×10" Good Mourning. Did they fix the issues that older presses had with cut off bits of songs and things? -

Also an Age of Adz repress. I wasn't crazy about AoA when it came out, but it's great. -

Trying to understand "Matrix" Numbers
TheGhostOfRandySavage replied to matonanjin's topic in Vinyl Collective Message Board
To add on to this, yeah while you may never have reason to identify a pressing just for yourself, it's good information to know for a few reasons: 1) If you're going to sell it, you should be able to tell what pressing it is. 2) For insurance purposes. I just use discogs as a catalogue of my records, but I make sure to always choose the correct pressing so if something happens I get the correct amount of money to replace it. It would suck to have a hard to find original pressing of a record, lose it in a fire and only get reimbursed for the most recent $20 pressing because you didn't catalogue the matrix, especially if the original sounds significantly better. -
I think the biggest issue is that no one actually involved with the running of the board is on any of these discords. There needs to be a way to contact them when there are issues, as I don't think anyone is even checking in more than once a week to see if the boards are up and running.

Power Trip Fest$$$$

I saw Sabbath on their last tour, saw Maiden last time they came through, and if I can get over some stupid mental shit I'll be seeing The Cure for the same reasons. -
What Fields for a database of albums?
TheGhostOfRandySavage replied to matonanjin's topic in Vinyl Collective Message Board
While I can understand keeping a local database, discogs works fine for me. You can even customize fields and make notes. I keep track of what is signed that way. I recently started categorizing them in folders by genre like my collection is too.
