  1. I still say your point about people who like "everything but country" is totally legit. That's just silly. It means you have no opinion. Liking everything = liking nothing. I've noticed the new things is that people say they "like everything, even country." Big and Rich shouldn't count as country though! I used to try showing people new music, but I'm really bad at it.I would think, well, their not into heavy music so I'll show them Danielson and then I just get shutdown. I've been banned from countless CD players, radios and stereos. Now I just look forward to being at home by myself so that I can listen to the music I want to listen to.
  2. When I was 15 a few friends got in a Bronco II cranked up Pantera and promptly rolled it. And we rolled in front of one of my dad's friends from church, thankfully he didn't recognize me. But he did wake up his neighbor at 2am to borrow his truck to pick the Bronco up When I was 17 I rear-ended someone after taking a nap while I was waiting at a stop light and lifted my foot of the brake. I had Zao playing as loud as I could in my thrift store stereo system. The guy was cool, he said he saw no damage! My most emo moment was getting a ticket for speeding in a school zone on graduation day, I was having a great day and it totally ruined it. I was listening to Brand New and almost burst into tears, so I turned it off. So nothing serious, but I do remember vividly what I was listening to.
  3. I downloaded it too, but I can't get past the first song, it sounds too much like a "local band," it's cool but a kind of basic beat with nothing new. Although I know that he's capable of good stuff like too bad You're Beautiful, I just need to give it a proper listen. Confession time, I really liked Abandon Your Friends (I haven't met anyone else that liked it). At first I thought it was awful and full of a bunch of really trendy cliches but then I fell asleep with my mp3 player on random and the song Sugar Wolf came on and I listened to it a few more times that night and started to really like the CD. I will say I'm glad I downloaded it because I hate the cover of it.
  4. Did they play any new music? I kind of figured they were breaking up as they hadn't really toured or put out new music in a few years. That's good to hear they're touring again. I also saw them a few years ago at taste of Chaos, I loved how they finished their set because everyone just left while this song was playing until it was just the drummer doing a solo and then people kept coming up and taking the different drums away until he had nothing left and then he got up and walked away. I thought that was really cool.
  5. I'm going to not watch TV all day, no radio or internet news. Then I'm going to go to work on wednesday, I only work with one other person at a farm, and then when I get home I'm going to look up who one the election. Then I'm going to be super excited because Obama kicked McCain's ass!
  6. This is the torrent I'm working on right now. I was just saying my friend has a CD-R that he got when we went to see them at Awesome Fest ages ago, I can't remember when but '05 would be about right, do you know anything about it?
  7. I'd love this, and thanks for the burning room! I sent my friend a message to ask him if if he still has it. I also found a torrent with some early PtM stuff so I'll check it out, one is a collection of demos and the other is an EP called Under Waves of the Brown Coat. Wikipedia says it was never commercially released so that may be it. here's the tracklisting if you know happen to know: 01 Clips Comprehend 02 Showing Teeth 03 Waiter (Demo Version) 04 How The Leopard Got Its Spots (Demo Version) 05 Pelican 06 Monster (Alternate Version) 07 Bad, Bad Levi Brown (Demo Version) 08 Untitled 1 09 Untitled 2 10 Untitled 3 and 01 Air Balloons 02 Monster 03 Open Wide 04 So You Know 05 Monster 2 I'm assuming it's okay with the rules if I download the torrent and then post the zip of an unreleased/oop album...unless the rules say otherwise I'll just upload them when it downloads. It may take a while, uTorrent is showing over 1 day currently
  8. http://www.divshare.com/download/5725840-21b This is a band called The Burning Room this is a former member of Anatomy of a Ghost, I might possibly be able to find the first CD-R that Portugal the Man put out, I'm not sure if anyone has already, but my friend might still have the CD, we saw them play their first show at Awesome Fest in Portland. Let me know if you really want it and I'll see what I can do. http://www.divshare.com/download/5725915-167 This is the band The Coma Recovery their first release is this CD-R, they released their other CD on Failed Experiment Records the myspace is http://www.myspace.com/thecomarecovery
  9. agreed I'm relatively new to listening to vinyl so I wasn't sure if maybe I was missing something, but I was really disappointed with it, I mean, I have thrift store records that sound better than that. Edited to say: doesn't mean I didn't buy Alchemy Index and that I won't thoroughly enjoy it!
  10. Paint it Black - New Lexicon Blacklisted - Heavier than Heaven Ceremony - Still, Nothing Moves You Gaslight Anthem - '59 Sound I don't know if it's a top 10 but I've really been enjoying Emiliana Torrini - Me and Armini and I haven't taken United Nations out of my CD player since I got it, it'll be on there
  11. I'm going to see a movie called Hunger about Irish Hunger striker Bobby Sands in 1981. According to Wikipedia it has probably one of the longest unbroken scenes in a mainstream film, a 20 minute scene with 2 people talking and the camera never changes position, yikes!
  12. So I kept reading it and found something that I thought was interesting. During and prior to the Cold War Russia was rejecting all kinds of UN resolutions and they got a reputation for it. Now it's the US that rejects the vast majority of them. I don't remember statistics but it was something staggering the US rejects compared to everyone else. This has to do with things like our overseas conflicts and support of Israel. We reject so much stuff and this letter talks about how Russia rejects all this stuff because it's against Russia's interest and as America we claim to take some high ground although the UN was almost unanimously against the war.
  13. I've spent a lot of time thinking about that, which doesn't necessarily mean anything. I think that with abortion there is a legitimate controversy as to whether an unborn baby is alive or not at what part of the pregnancy, and as to who's choice supercedes who's (ie. does the mother's choice of not wanting a baby take precedent over humanities natural survival instinct). What I mean is that you can have this discussion without religious rhetoric. When talking about gay marriage though, you have two kinds of people who are against it; those that are uncomfortable with gays and Religious "fundamentalists" (although certainly there are some people who are uncomfortable with gays yet accepting and Religious folks who are okay with it). Basically I think if your only rationale is that "the Bible says so" then you have to shut your mouth, it has no place in law. Jesus never (please correct me if you know an instance) said anything against the law at the time. He talked about law and Caesar but never said he was wrong, and never challenged the law. Sometime around the Carter era Christians seemed to get involved at a level previously unseen, this has only multiplied over time, and gotten much worse. And as for those who are just uncomfortable with it, they need to get over it. Those types of attitudes are cultural, depending on where the culture is at at the time. I think ultimately we can let Religious people say what they want because in ten years no matter who is elected, gay marriage will not only be legal but acceptable.
  14. I like the generic stuff from stores the most, with a little bit of pulp. If I wake up with a stuffed nose or feeling a bit sick I will go to the store and buy a jug of OJ and spend the day working on it, I hate OJ for like a week after that, but after the week I'm in love again!
  15. You know the intro to his show, how he's walking through a train yard? I need him, absolutely need him, to punch someone in the face. He looks so tough in that scene.
  16. I was raised as a Christian and my dad was a pastor. I was even a missionary for a year and real evangelical praying for healing and things under the banner of Christianity. Now I'm more open-minded and think that it's ridiculous to assume that one religion is correct, or even assuming that God is an absolute. That being said, I have a lot of respect for my dad and for some Christians although I do try to subtley (is that even a word?) introduce new ideas about Jesus and religion to my parents that they wouldn't normally agree with but will accept if brought in the right wording, like Jesus supporting "subjective morality". I don't disagree with spirituality as I have seen people being healed and other miraculous things, but I don't believe that that proves God let alone Christianity. I wonder how much our minds play into this stuff, how strong we can be mentally. I guess I'm a sort of humanist.
  17. Years ago I used to listen to this song on the radio called "Undo Me" and I always thought that the lady was singing to "Toomie" who was a local radio DJ at the time and I thought it was cool but I was a bit confused as to why a singer from some random place in the US would sing about a radio DJ from Spokane.
  18. I was talking to someone at work and he was really into records and I told him a few that I had so we got to talking and he told me about VC as his favorite place to buy from.
  19. the user name came about because I'm a dual citizen in US and UK and the UK wouldn't let me in once so it became my little online name deal.
  20. Has anyone heard of this movie? It just started on TV here. It starts off with Samuel L Jackson in the 1970's getting pulled over and arrested by a cop who tells him "the sixties are over...man" it looks like it's going to be pretty awesome! As far as cheesy action flicks with cars, girls, music and silly dialogue is concerned! (Woah, breaking news, Meatloaf is in it! minus the bitch tits)
