  1. Nodes of Ranvier - Nodes of Ranvier Norma Jean - Bless the Martyr Against Me! - We Did it all for Don (I only knew this song as we would always scream along any time we drove somewhere)
  2. I'm getting a bit upset about it. I'm considering canceling my order. I don't buy a lot of vinyl, just the records that I really like and I really like the alchemy index. This was the first CD I bought thinking "I really hope they do this on vinyl!" But when I literally only have $27 in my bank account and $70 floating around somewhere in the hopes that someday I'll get this makes me want to just not get it.
  3. That's cheating! You can't pray that someone fail to prove your point that god didn't like them. If god doesn't like Obama then s/he'll sort him without your prayers.
  4. It's funny that the website uses Bruce Springsteen rather than Gaslight Anthem.
  5. I love her music. I have Kissing and Dancing. I haven't heard White Flag, but I'm sure I'd enjoy it
  6. yeah but cut the crap sucked balls. Oh thank God, I saw it at a vinyl shop today and didn't recognize any songs or anything. I thought about buying it but decided not to.
  7. I found it scary to think that there's so many nuclear submarines just bumming around the ocean that they bump into each other now and again. What the fuck is that? I'm pretty sure we have the capability to launch nukes from land, seems like a big waste of money.
  8. I'm sure people on here already know about this but maybe some of you will appreciate this. It's from a British rock magazine called Rock Sound "I'm just a colossal nerd... I re-organize my record collection every two weeks, moving things, making little sub-sections for different bands, and then deciding that what I've done is ridiculous and putting them back. I have to worship at the altar of punk rock for a certain amount of time every week. Most people go to church on Sundays, I sit in front of my record collection and just worship." Sweet!
  9. So I bought my first mainstream rock magazine in a few years the other day and there's an interview in it with the singer from Fucked Up about punk rock and he says exactly what I would have said... What does it mean to be punk in 2009? "There are probably two definitions of punk - punk in a very pure, true aesthetic way, which is a true punk sound, and there's also punk as an outlook, a world-view almost. In no way would I describe the music that someone like Nick Cave makes as punk rock, but there's definitely a punk attitude that goes through the sort of music he makes" How do you think punk has changed since its inception? "From inception it was something that was another type of marketing, like the Sex Pistols and The Damned - all those bands were very much packaged as being 'punk' bands but, as time's gone on, punk has almost taken on a life of its own. These people put punk into the world with a very pure, aesthetic view, and punk has spawned into itself. Now what people consider punk is very broad; my punk is definitely not someone else's punk." Oh, and the singer for The Bronx was also asked the same question... What does it mean to be punk in 2009 "You know what? I think it means the same thing as it always did. It's all about attitude and looking at life differently, a little bit more left of centre than the average person. I think the spirit of punk is going to live forever, as long as there are people who are inspired to do things differently." I think that people always hate to see things change, no matter how inevitable it is, people hate to see it happen. I consider myself punk as far as my world-view and my attitude as opposed to my dress and music. To be honest, I can hardly listen to most old punk, I know a couple Minor Threat songs and some Clash but mostly I find the sound so bad that I just don't bother with it. The punk attitude has always existed (loosely) in things like slaves singing songs in defiance of their 'master,' rock and roll in the '50's that was challenging everything that people thought about music. It's just an attitude that those that care have always cared and will always care. Fuck the hipsters that try to co-opt the music and fashion and stuff, because at the end of the day they don't give a shit and they'll disappear when the next big thing comes along.
  10. Nodes of Ranvier - S/T I know they're just a metalcore band, but this is my favorite record of all time. It has all the screaming and growling and breakdowns but there's a ton of surprises that make the songs really interesting. It also happens to be the first actual vinyl record I bought (besides $1 records from thrift stores, but they hardly count).
  11. The ads over here in Britain called it the "feel-good movie of the year" and I decided to give it a pass. I was going to see Che-Part 1 this weekend but maybe I'll do Slumdog Millionaire, has anyone seen both?
  12. Definitely Dark Days! If you're interested in politics or recent American wars then The Fog of War is an absolute must, it's entirely an interview with Robert McNamara, he flew planes in WWII and has been involved in every war since. It's incredible. It was done by Errol Morris who did the Thin Blue Line. He also did Standard Operating Procedure that was about the pictures that came out of Abu Ghraib and the people who took the pictures, very interesting. The Corporation is always interesting, it's about corporations (surprise surprise) and their history and current position in society. War Made Easy was, in my humble opinion, one of the best anti-war documentaries, about media complacency in the lead up to the Iraq War. For an interesting movie about an obscure local hero check out The Agronomist (maybe he's more famous and I'm just unaware). Jean Dominique ran an independent radio station in Haiti and was eventually assassinated for it. Plus the soundtrack was done by Wyclef Jean. Harlan County, USA is about a labor strike in the '70's in Kansas. Some hippie type people from New York happened to be down there to film the start of the strike that ended up lasting for over a year. It's an incredible documentary that captures some amazing things, like fights and really heated arguments and some wives facing off the police on the line. There's also stuff about the scabs that cross the line and the shit they got for it, it's really heartbreaking as one brother disowns another.
  13. Robert Burn's Sweet Afton, the Nickle Creek version, then at the Wake everyone holds hands and sings We Did It All For Don. But then again, I'll be dead, what do I care.
  14. That's what I was thinking, with shipping and stuff I ended up paying nearly $80 for this from VC when those few copies popped up a month ago. I'm really excited for it, but at the same time a little nervous I'll be let down by the high shipping costs.
  15. I think it's probably because I bought my record player used for $16 from a thrift shop and have never changed the needle, but my copy skips, not a lot but none of my other records do that.
  16. At a small record shop here in Scotland I picked up Steve Earle and the Dukes - Exit 0 for about $3 Kayo Dot and Bloody Panda - split 12" on a gray with orange splatter for about $10 Champion - Promises Kept (I was looking up pressing info and it seems to be the first press of 200 on white!)for $6!
  17. People tell me I need to see Pulp Fiction and Bill and Ted. I think that everyone should watch the Rocky Horror Picture Show at least once, just for the experience! You don't have to like it, I didn't really care for it, but it's the experience that counts! And the Good the Bad and the Ugly is my favorite movie ever! It's so incredible! And along the lines of this topic, I haven't seen Hang 'Em High or A Fistful of Dollars
  18. In my humble opinion, it's the worst day in America. I understand getting good deals on good stuff (the laptop I am using was purchased last year by my dad on black friday). But seeing all those middle-aged women kicking each others asses for the latest toy that their kids won't give a shit about in a few months just to say that they have the latest and greatest, really upsets me. I think I just see it as a metaphor-of-sorts for consumerism gone horribly awry.
  19. I love download codes, that's why I don't buy as many CD's, if a vinyl doesn't come with a code i download the torrent. I haven't ordered anything from No Idea in a while, but do you let people know about the codes? I haven't seen it on the site before. Often I only have a budget to buy one record and I have decided against No Idea because you don't have a code, and they're not popular enough to have a torrent. Whereas if I get the latest B9, guaranteed it's going to be more popular. I figure if you tell people they will use them more often.
  20. Oh, man. I've been living in the UK and some people here love to listen to techno music, especially stuff that they and their friends have created. Then they love to get on the bus or train or something and crank it up really loud and talk over it. It's so obnoxious!!
