  1. Got mine in the mail today. Holy shit this is good and I'm only three songs in. Future Islands never disappoints.
  2. Is April Fools now a week long event? What's with all of these threads?
  3. I think of it as an investment in some way. I collect records for the music though. They actually serve a purpose too, unlike a beanie baby. If they tank in value, who cares? I still have the music. When I started collecting about 18 years ago I could get a decent used Hendrix or Pink Floyd record for $4 or $5, now it's at least $20 at the same shop. Most of the hardcore record collectors I see at record shows/estate sales are 50+, once their numbers start to dwindle I feel like records of certain genres with start to diminish in value.
  4. So this year all the records are going have "Support Indie Record Stores.... Not Flippers" screen printed on them? Neat! Only really interested in that Doors album, maybe the Pink Floyd, but it's probably only two tracks. Both will probably be gone immediately. I would probably wait in line if they did a full live early Pink Floyd release. It would be nice if they would at least include a track list.
  5. Yeah I ended up getting Giant Steps for about $9 after the discount. Also got: Boards of Canada - Music has the Right to Children Kanye - MBDTF War on Drugs - Lost in the Dream Ellington - Inidigos Neon Bible Tame Impala - Currents Neil Young - Peace Trail Max Richter - Songs from Before Black Flag - Damaged and.... Diz and Getz Sweet Deal. Most of these were those $20+ albums that I was holding out on for a good deal. Total came to $172, so a little over $15 an album. Thanks for posting that sweet sale! If it's still working tomorrow I may have to take another look. I only wish Import sold more of the obscure shit I'm looking for.
  6. I rarely go to Goodwill anymore for records either. I suppose I'll share a little secret, if you really wanna find good records go to garage sales and estate sales. I have had some really amazing finds. A lot of people just assume they are junk. For example one sale I found the guy had all his records for 25 cents. I walked away with a box of almost immaculate records for about $12. - Beatles, Pink Floyd, Zeppelin, Doors, Classic Rock and Jazz. I've had a ton of good scores.
  7. Awesome! So this is the original that was limited to 500 copies?
  8. "Hey I have 1200 records of music you don't know and won't appreciate" has always worked for me.
  9. Already up on ebay..... http://www.ebay.com/itm/Third-Man-Records-Pressing-White-Stripes-MC5-Stooges-GRAND-OPENING-SET-TMRCC-/282374362158?hash=item41bed2d42e:g:Pj0AAOSwx6pYseXG ...and so it begins. Someone will buy this too. Edit: Or this bhaha http://www.ebay.com/itm/MC5-Kick-Out-The-Jams-Screen-Printed-Cass-Edition-Record-TMR-LP-Jack-White-/252787226767?hash=item3adb4af88f:g:fEYAAOSwWxNYsedt
  10. Ahh you're probably right, didn't even think of that. Just like that one sell that sells LPs with writing on them that look like a signature, but aren't actually a signature that sell for thousands.
  11. Wow. I should start selling US currency on ebay. Three $50 bills for $179.04 and 21 sold - http://www.ebay.com/itm/3-x-50-Dollar-Bills-Various-FRB-Districts-2004-2013-Circulated-/401206774896?hash=item5d69c98c70:g:adUAAOSwYIxX6uyE That would probably be a few bucks profit after seller and paypal fees.
  12. Yeah no problem. I would recommend a vacuum powered record cleaning machine. I bought a Record Doctor about a year ago and it works pretty well. It doesn't get everything out, but for under $200 it works pretty well. You just spread the solution on the record, flip it, turn on the vacuum, give it three or four rotations and it's done.
  13. Ahh sorry, just read the responses. Yes, a needle is an electro-mechanical device, doesn't mix well with water. I usually make sure to do an extra spin on an RCM, just to make sure there is zero water left.
  14. Well, it's a photo of a crappy cart so yes. And yes it really is this convoluted. In all seriousness... a little more info would help. Did you buy the record new or used? Have you tried cleaning the record or the cartridge? What kind of turntable? Is it set up properly with the anti-skate weight? If it happens at the same point in the record and you bought it used, it's probably the record. Maybe the needle had too much pressure on the grooves and distorted them at some point, also that is a pretty quiet part of that album.
  15. Haha I know that. Nobody DJs with records anymore, you just have to push that little 'sync' button.
  16. Am I the only one that finds it a little odd that the two techno releases are 7"s? I don't think I've ever seen any 7" techno releases.
  17. Bhaha, what an odd combination. Does that say "freddurst is dum#?"
  18. Went to the co-headlining tour to see Modest Mouse "open" for them and after about three songs of 'meh' we left.
  19. aaaand they're gone. I'm kind of surprised the RT purple hasn't sold out yet.
  20. Really looking forward to that Geotic album, I only recently found out Baths was releasing stuff under a different alias and I love it.
