Also, PSOTY posted on IG today the new album clocks in at 56 min.  So almost an hour of heavy af post-metal (allegedly)

EVERYBODY PILE ON BARONESS!! AKA Nickelback lite hurr durrr!

Are people seriously preordering  this band's albums and complaining over the new singles 7 YEARS after Yellow & Green came out??  That's rich!  Also, suckers! Or maybe flippers... Hah.

Haters coming out the woodwork to blast a band that has only gotten more popular with every release.  Love it, and I guess that's to be expected.   Baroness rules.  Comparing them to the Foo Fighters is hilarious btw.

Also, I don't think the band has lost anything with regards to complexity  ('Seasons' for example).  The rhythm section is tight as a mug, and the new female guitarist shreds.  Bring on the hate.

New Pirate Ship Quintet is probably the freshest post-rock record I’ve heard in years.  On top of the A+ melancholic strings you’ve come to love and expect from them, they’ve managed to tie in some hauntingly gorgeous vocals, saxophone, stellar bass grooves... a bit of everything, really.  Your mileage may vary, but for me, Emitter is a shimmery beacon that glistens in a sea of mundane modern post-rock.

The new Minor Movements is REAL good imo.  “Clouds of Smoke” might be PR song of the year so far.

Westkust s/t is out and it is an absolute killer. I've been listening to it non-stop.

    Right now the pressing is:
    Bandcamp - https://westkust.bandcamp.com/
    Black - Unlimited
    White - 200

    RFC - http://www.runforcoverrecords.com/products/633795-westkust-s-t
    Green 200
    Purple 800

I havn't ordered yet, but I was leaning towards the purple because it matches the cover the best, and the green looks meh, but I'm torn on purp and white.

This is really good stuff! Didn't know the band at all and now I'm digging into their older stuff.

Streaming the From Fathoms remaster right now and it’s completely kicking me in the dick.  I can only hope the Tertia remaster is half as crisp as this thing.

All eras of Baroness are at the very least good imo. First and Second were solid back in the day and Red and Blue were great, classics even. Yellow and Green were definitely a different side but still even with the emotional bent and less aggressive tendencies those songs hold up. Purple was a good step but for me the one that had the least staying power. Gold and Grey will probably just sound like.... Baroness, and that’s a good thing.

At the very least we’re gonna get an album of solid Baroness jams that likely mixes all eras of the band with killer artwork from Baizely. Thumbs up for that.

This was just released Friday.  Lots of different types of gaze here.  Starts off punishingly heavy then mellows out about 4 songs in.  It’s a long album but so good.

I think Swarm of the Sun is still my fav so far this year, but I’m honestly still waiting to be blown away by something.  But Old Solar, Seeress, Labirinto, MONO, Sun Burns Bright, & Kosatka are all albums I’ve enjoyed thus far.

I've listened to it quite a few times and quite like it.

I appreciate the fact it's very energetic and has extremely catchy melodies. I think I still prefer Mourning (their first album) as it is more straight to the point and the songs are shorter. I need to give this more time and listens though.

Old Solar is still the best Post Rock album of the year for me so far.

Don’t know if this one has already been shared in here at some point but oh well it should just be standard practice to periodically include.

Yuuuuup.  I was already loving ‘The Dream Passes’ more & more with each listen but seeing it all live took it to the next level.  That band is incredible live & every song translates sooo well.

I’m really digging Seeress today as well.  It’s definitely no AOTY, but plenty here to enjoy & revisit.  I like how each song is almost 2-3 songs in one.  And that closer was a surprise but very beautiful.  Love those vocals.

Finishing up now & it’s so good start to finish.  There’s a ton more depth to the songs & just so much meat on the bones relative to ‘Gehenna’.  I even got vibes of Russian Circles heaviest riffs mixed in here.  I feel like this album is a mix of RC & Audrey Fall.  But where Audrey Fall got real boring over time, this feels like it’ll have staying power.

While we're on the subject of post-metal, that new Labirinto album is incredible. Just finished up my first listen and I know there's a tendency to get overhyped early but this is some of the best music I've heard out of the genre in a long time. All the right levels of energy, riffage, momentum, quality production, balanced vocals, etc... Seriously, don't sleep on this.

Caspian is definitely right there with RC but I give the nod to RC.  I know this isn’t a popular opinion, but I always found myself wanting to like Dust & Disquiet more than I did.  I think it was too overproduced & I’d take Guidance over D&D any day.

But I found myself getting into Long Distance Calling last year & mostly because they gave me riff-heavy vibes like RC.  Not nearly as good as them obviously, but the opener on Boundless even reminds me of early RC guitars.

Fair enough!  I suppose I haven’t exposed myself to this sound as much as others so I’m probably gonna like this more than some people.  I personally haven’t given Isis more than a casual listen a while back & I really can’t get into Rosetta outside of a few songs (Clavius ).  Never liked Deafheaven but I love Møl.  But Wowod seems way more post-rock than the black-metal-gaze thing DH & Møl have going on.

Thanks, I'll keep them! Russian Circles know how to make songs interesting and not just chug away for 8 mins like most instrumental Post Metal bands. Super dynamic, great riffs and the best drumming.

While Determinism is great, in my opinion, it's nowhere as good as any of the Isis albums (except for maybe Celestial).

Those are my holy trinity for Isis, too.  Warmed up to In The Absence of Truth a while back, which has been nice to add to the rotation.  And of course Celestial is just a monster but I have to be in a specific mood for it.  Counting post-metal with vocals, I'd easily place Isis over Neurosis, CoL, and Rosetta... but that's just me.  I've been on a huge kick with them lately, enjoying everything from live albums to that Temporal compilation.
