I found a refurbished Rebel xsi with a 50mm for about $600. I'm thinking about it.

Yea..not looking for film, have enough of those. 50mm lense is usually what I would use, and it worked but not ideal for being right against the stage.

I have one of those too, but it's the s700. It's nice for casual stuff, but it doesn't really do what I want for shows. I think it's a really good camera though, I don't really have any complaints about it.

Sweet, I'm gonna add you. Have you taken any classes, or did you go to school for it or what? All the classes I've taken have been for film, but developing your own shit can get pretty expensive. Photography is one of my favorite things to nerd out about. So do you think it's rude to use flash at shows? I never do unless I ask someone in the band beforehand, but then other people don't seem to mind. I always ask people this, haha.

So I decided on getting a new camera...my grandma died and left me some money. I don't want to spend more than $1000 and I know I can get a pretty sweet camera for that price. Lately I've been using a friend's Rebel XTi, but she doesn't really have the proper lenses for shooting live shows which is what I mainly do. So I guess I'm debating between Canon and Nikon? Anyone that likes to shoot shows have any advice for me regarding cameras and lenses I should look into. I noticed the Canon 50mm f/1.8 lense is about $50 less than the Nikon one...but I've heard bad things about Canon. Helpppp!
