  1. Part of me wants to tally up these votes in real time and keep tabs on them, but a greater part of me wants to be completely surprised with the results. Feels pretty 50/50 at the moment, based off the last couple of pages.
  2. Also, the ambiguity of this thread title implies that we've got a general celebratory 5K-thread on our hands. For anyone and everyone. Like cwhitmuzik pointed out, he's pretty hot on our heels. I think abovetheearth and Yocasey are also in the 4,000s... and at the rate Loganeatsdirt and Deafening post, they'll be in here in no time. I like the concept, if not solely because I'd love to see a parade of GIFs and congratulations in one spot, every time someone crosses the threshold. We should probably bake Juan a cake when he hits 20K, though.
  3. If I struggle to locate anything, I think I may take you up on that. Thanks for both the offer and the suggestions.
  4. Definitely will. What's a good record to backtrack to?
  5. Gave into the hype and finally checked this out. Ended up ordering halfway through the first listen.
  6. Hecker is great stuff through and through. I've been exploring (and subsequently loving) his discography very thoroughly for the last year or so. Winged Victory and Stars of the Lid are definitely a different breed of ambient. I feel like they burn cleaner and sound more serene -- Hecker's material is dark and engulfs you. You get lost in it in the sense that you'd lose your way in a massive cavern. Winged Victory is more akin to zenning out and drifting out to sea. Both are phenomenal ambient artists, and it makes me happy to see more VC users interested in them. Especially familiar faces. I've pitched this video around quite a bit on the forums, but here's one of the shorter tracks off the self-titled Winged Victory debut. Gorgeous stuff. The kind of music that's ideal for both drifting off and waking up.
  7. I've never had to do it, but it should be somewhere in your profile settings. Moonbeams changes his username at every opportunity, I feel. (He's going by Deep Blue right now.) Actually, if you view your profile, and then click the black Edit My Profile button at the top right... "Display Name" will be the third option in the column at the left. Looks like you're allowed to change it once every 60 days.
  8. I e-mailed Kranky and while they did respond, it was pretty obvious that they didn't want to disclose information on it. You may have more luck, though.
  9. No problem. I'm a huge Hammock fan myself. Surely you've heard of Stars of the Lid, yes? Winged Victory is just Adam working with a composer instead of Brian. Really some of the lushest ambient I've heard. If you're into hearing records on vinyl for the first time - and taking gambles - hit up Kranky for their self-titled debut. It's $16, free shipping. You won't be disappointed.
  10. Ambient fans are far and few on VC, but there's no way I could let the new AWVFTS go by without mention. Atomos VII is a new EP that doubles as a makeshift teaser for the full-length Atomos, which will be released a few months from now. The EP contains the title track off Atomos, along with with an outtake / unreleased track from the self-titled debut, and a collaborative track with Ben Frost. It's up for order at Erased Tapes for $28 PPD or so. Way too steep for three tracks, unfortunately. Kranky should be carrying it stateside, though, and it should be closer to $16 PPD. Much more manageable. I'll be bumping and revising this thread for the actual Atomos pre-order, which I'm significantly more excited about... but this should do a fine job in assisting with the wait. Get.
  11. Better late than never, at least. I think you'll be able to find one of the fancier variants of this release with a little bit of patience. The /500 180 gram black is still available if you'd like. Dat free coozie, too.
  12. Even if gkersey and I join forces, we don't ball as hard as Mike T.
  13. I can legitimately say that I miss your threads and the responses that they get.
  14. That Mylene variant turned out even nicer than I expected. What's pretty wild is that the colors seem to be layered. If you're like me, one of your first instincts after opening a record is to hold it up against the light. And on my copy, there are these giant, opaque shapes (blobs) that are only visible when lit up from behind... that appear on neither side. Like they're sandwiched in the center of the vinyl, but only visible when illuminated. It's pretty interesting. Love the matte finish on this thing, too. Hand numbered #56 / 100 in gold ink. Was this advertised as 180 gram? Because it sure feels like it.
  15. Possibly. I feel guilty for having joined a year after you and having just as many posts. I [thought I] lurk forums a lot more than I post on them.
  16. Apparently this happened for me as well. No idea when, but, yeah. Congrats. Record Release reppin'.
  17. Ha! I didn't even notice. I should've recognized the signature, but that Deep Blue username really threw me off. The best part is that I read the title, quizzically clicked on the topic, read the premise, and thought to myself what a goofy-ass thread. Moral of the story; trust your gut. [edit] I didn't mean to sound ungrateful for this topic. VC wouldn't be the same without you, Moon Beams, and we all know it.
  18. Thanks for all the information, Nelso. I appreciate the lengthy response. Not that I doubt the validity of any of your info, but if you've seen ~15 green Refinements on eBay over the years... wouldn't they show up on Popsike? Because I'm only seeing one, and I've browsed through all possible listings. Regarding new SOTL, I'm pretty certain that Kranky have posted vague updates and photos of SOTL in the studio. I remember a few last year, actually. Obviously this doesn't really mean anything, since their writing & recording routines are just about as slow as their music. But the updates - small as they may be - have been a little more frequent as of late. I think a late 2014 / 2015 release is pretty feasible. Especially since it sounds like Atomos is just about done at this point, taking the pressure off of A Winged Victory for a while.
  19. Definitely. The vocal melodies during both the verses and chorus are unmistakable.
  20. I'd say that both the current Release and S/T/B boards have become less and less relevant to my interests over the years... but only because I'm not listening to the same garbage I was when I was 19. Browsing new POs, 2008... Browsing new POs, 2014... No forum for old men.
  21. Needs to retake it with AWLWLB and the Jane Does that have been released since 2011.
