    I need to wrap my nephew's presents tonight too. My wrapping skills are terrible though :/.

    I have to wrap a bunch of stuff for my girlfriend yet, but we're both working 3-11 tomorrow so I'll probably just do that while I'm at work. I somehow managed to NOT put off all my shopping until the last minute this year, but I'm slacking on wrapping stuff.

  2. For some reason I kept thinking that I hadn't listened to much new music this year, then I ran through my iTunes and realized I have 30 albums in my 2016 playlist. I have no idea what order I would put them in, so here's just an alphabetized list of my top 10.

    * Big Jesus - Oneiric

    * The Body - No One Deserves Happiness

    * Cult of Luna & Julie Christmas - Mariner

    * Deftones - Gore
    * Neurosis - Fires Within Fires

    * Oathbreaker - Rheia

    * O'Brother - Endless Light

    * Russian Circles - Guidance

    * Sumac - What One Becomes

    * Touche Amore - Stage Four

  3. I honestly can't even remember if I went to 10 shows this year, but seeing Bane's last show in Worcester was pretty fuckin' cool. SUMAC in a tiny ass art gallery/show space in Portsmouth, NH with like 30 other people was incredible too. O'Brother & Big Jesus at Great Scott in Boston was the shit.

    Also, self-indulgent maybe, but I just got done playing a weekend with Old Gray & Soul Glo, and our show at Shea Stadium in Brooklyn was probably somewhere in my top 20 of all time. Both as a spectator and a participant.

  4. I've seen Converge 27 times. It's been a few years since the last time I saw them (Deathwish Fest in Boston, 2014 I think?) but even after seeing them 20+ times they're a hell of a live band to see.

    Saw them about a decade ago at a Moose Lodge in Pittsburgh...no stage. Playing mostly songs off of YFM. Nate was about as big a troll as I've ever seen him be. It was awesome.

    The new album was pretty good, but nothing I'd go out and buy on vinyl.

    I mean, if they don't do it for you, that's cool because tastes are subjective, but for what it's worth, Guidance might be one of the most perfectly sequenced albums I've heard on vinyl. Both sides work as complete clauses that hold up entirely well on their own, but also the A-side is REALLY well reinforced by the B-side.

    I think this new record just sounds more menacing than their previous work. Memorial was nasty and heavy as hell, but Guidance sounds like it'll take you out behind the barn & beat the hell out of you without even getting winded.

    Got through about half of ToT on my way to work. Still don't like the shoegaze vocals but they're less grating here than on GoE. Really really dig the music. Love the Hum riff in one of the songs. The album is like listening to 90s alt rock filtered through the haze of a dream.

    I don't hate the vocals on ToT, but they're definitely not my favorite part of the record. I definitely dig this record though - it's not AOTY for me by any stretch, but might end up a top 10. It reminds me of some band I used to listen to in high school, and I can't think who...but at the same time, it sounds pretty fresh, and less dated than other 90's Worship bands I've heard.

    Really had high hopes the Caps would pull that off. I love how many game 7s there are. And I'm really pulling for a team that hasn't won a cup in a while/ever to win this thing. Which is basically every team left.

    Pens had a cup in '09, so it hasn't been THAT long. However, I'm a Pittsburgh boy, so I'm hoping they win another.
