Dig it, and looking forward to the show, but still not paying $33 for it. Variants are cool at least. If it was $24ppd I’d bite.
Yup, if this was a full length, or cheaper, either way I'd be all over it. It's a damn good EP, but my days of paying $30+ for an EP that short are long behind me.

Meteor Gem on Elston is owned and run by @se7enstitches and is an amazing stop for metal and ‘core.
Meteor Gem is absolutely fantastic. Last time I was in Chicago, I spent about an hour talking about how fucking amazing Gaerea is, and walked out with about three new bands I'd never heard before. Great selection, great people, and as an added bonus, Kuma's is not far away either.

All my records get sleeved in Invest In Vinyl inners as soon as possible. Printed sleeves that are part of the album artwork get kept, but the standard paper ones just get tossed.

I already had my tix for Boston & was earlier pondering not flying up anymore as also going to Chicago. But shit. With this lineup now, I’ll fo’sho go up.
I got my ticket for Boston well before the other acts were announced, and now I have negative amounts of regret.

Caught the mighty YOB with Gozu and Cave In in Boston Saturday night. Great show all around, and the first time I've been to Middle East since probably 2018? Gozu on record is not at all my thing, but they were fun as hell live. Cave In was excellent, as always.
Yob was amazing. Loud, heavy, thunderous...played a 90 minute set that consisted of a whole six songs, one each from most of their old albums (I think a track from every record except Our Raw Heart). I couldn't have been happier.

I will continue to hold out for a repress of Malice. One day....one day.

My high school self would be stoked for a vinyl pressing of S/T, but beyond that and DBL, I guess I never held much interest in them. The first album is still a banger, and while I don't think the DBL pressing was anything mindblowing, it's still cool to have a copy of it. I'll skip these, but cross my fingers.

Pre-Covid, I was a lot more dilligent about this, but I try to keep my collection curated & pruned to the point where if something hasn't gotten at least one spin in the last year or so, it goes out the door. Conversely, damn near everything I own gets played. Out of ~600 records, I'd say maybe less than a dozen haven't seen my turntable at least once in the last 365 days, and the only reason those haven't gotten swept away is because they're too cheap to be worth the effort to list on Discogs or haul to Newbury (and/or Newbury won't take them anyway), or they're novelty items that I keep out of sentimentality.
-
I thought about holding out until either Meteor Gem or the Debemur Morti US store had copies listed to go a little cheaper, but ended up just saying fuck it and pulling the trigger on the IndieMerchStore variant.
Love Exchange Failure and the Debemur Morti EP are both 11/10 releases, so I'm really looking forward to hearing this.
EDIT:
Looks like the standard variants are up now too.

New White Ward...
Well, fuck me, this is as good a reason to come back to posting on these boards for the first time in a handful of years.

I ended up getting the Pro-Ject Debut Carbon EVO, with the Sumiko Rainier cartridge. Slight upgrade to the Ortofon 2m Red, HUGE upgrade with the speed adjustment being a rocker switch rather than having to manually move the belt from one pulley to the other, and it's a much classier "satin walnut" finish over the gloss black. I'm pretty happy with the decision.
Now, I just gotta unload the old turntable...

Hey y'all. I'm necromancing my account here (holy crap, I haven't even logged in since 2018...) to ask a dumb question.
My Pro-Ject DC has hit its 5-year mark, which means I've probably blasted right the hell through that "2,000 hours" marker for when I should replace the stylus. I could pretty easily slap an Ortofon 2m Blue on this bad boy & call it a day, but I'm wondering if it isn't worth totally replacing the whole thing - opting for one that I can switch between 33.3 and 45 without having to goddamn take the whole platter off - and selling/trading in my current model. A 2m Blue runs about $200, I'd be looking in the $450-500 range for a new turntable, so it's plausible that the overall net cost of each option isn't much different once you factor in possible resale/trade-in value.
Thoughts?

I know this is sorta unpopular but I strongly prefer Terrifyer. Both great records, nonetheless.
As a writer, I prefer Prowler because those are JR's best lyrics hands down. But overall, I think Terrifyer is a better record.
I'm all in on this one for sure. -
Yo, I absolutely love the Buried Inside jam. Spoils Of Failure was also the shit. "Time As Commodity" is absolutely one of my benchmarks when it comes to "what do I mean when I say 'heavy' music?"

Hey everybody.
I came back, ordered a buncha records I didn't need, and accidentally posted some SmallTalk bullshit in the Postrock thread.
Anything else exciting happen lately? -

Anyone going to the show in June? Just bought a ticket. Will deal with the logistics of getting time off and getting there later.
I'll be there.
I haven't posted here in a while, but I literally live ten minutes from where his accident happened, so aside from being fucked up over it as a fan of Caleb's work, it also fucked me up a lot driving past that exact tollbooth a few days later. Seeing Santos from OMG who's usually 190% troll getting super choked up & emotional on the OMG Facebook page definitely made me go all weepy more than once. -
Hi y'all. I came back again, and already spent more money than I meant to on records I didn't know were coming out, so there's that.
Anything exciting happen here while I was away?
EDIT: fucked up & thought I posted this in the SmallTalk thread, so to keep it on-topic...
My dudes in Au Revoir played a sick show about 4 blocks from my house last week, and they ripped it. Best set I've seen them play. -
My copy arrived late last week, and I've given it several spins since. Sounds great. Easily as good as Carpe Diem.

TSY was a 15/10 for me since it first came out...and everything after was very much not for me.
I'm hoping that this is at least MOST of what I love about TSY. The new song makes me feel fairly confident, but I guess we'll see.I also now realized, I can't remember whether I ordered this or not. I thought I grabbed one when the preorder went live, but I don't see anything in my PayPal history that seems like it matches this. Guess it'll be a surprise for me when these start shipping!

I'm an Old Asshole, so generally I don't get super excited about new bands like I used to...but the split this band did with .gif from god was sick, and I'm trying to commit to checking out at least ONE band each year that was formed sometime after 2004, sooooooo....guess who just ordered the blood splatter variant. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Hyped.
That said, I slightly am wary of pre-ordering any limited variant of this because the New Bermuda pre-order was something of a disaster, especially regarding the "coke bottle clear", which manifested as a translucent green months after the initial release and other variants were readily available (funnily enough, googling info on the New Bermuda delay lead me here for the first time).
Ah who am I kidding: this song is excellent and I'm near certain I'll cave on a limited variant pre-order.
This is pretty much why I went with the DW variant, despite the other options sounding really tempting...been ordering from DW for many years now and they've not let me down, so I'll take consistency over a slightly more nifty variant.
New song is good. Got my tickets today to see them in Boston, a convenient 3 days before my birthday...Royale ain't my favorite venue but I'm still stoked.
-
I hesitated on ordering this when the preorder went up because my credit card balance strongly suggested I not buy records until payday, so I missed the splatter by a lot of days. But I actually think the olive fits the artwork better anyway so I'm not upset over it.
Zao was the first "heavy" band I listened to, thanks to a Songs From the Penalty Box comp...super stoked that literally 20 years later I can grab some of their back catalog for not stupid prices.
