  1. Dang, I really messed up. I remember distinctly when these came online on the 20th of April. I remember being able to choose each color, and after mulling it over, I went with white. I even put it in my "incoming" list. But apparently either I'm an idiot and didn't actually submit the order, or my order didn't go through, as I have no confirmation e-mail on record, and no payment from my credit card or paypal. Sucks for me. Anyone have an extra copy, and want to trade or something? I have an extra copy of the Melvins/Isis split. Looks like Amazon still has copies as well...
  2. Hey, have people already been receiving their orders from BCD?
  3. I like "like." That was the shit... Anyway, this might not exactly qualify for this board, but I just got a clarity repress for $57 shipped, and I'm excited about it, since otherwise they go for at minimum $70. there have been a bunch selling recently, and one more ends (not the repress) in a few days. The major point of this was to let people know about that possible opportunity: high supply, low demand, cheap prices, go buy clarity on ebay. Hmm... I got a repress for $30. Not on ebay, on a message board mind you, but I had offered $35 and the dude said "how about $30 because the cover is a little beat up" and I'd say the cover isn't that much worse for wear, though not mint or anything.
  4. I assume you are talking about the Behringer PP400. Both of the $40 models I mentioned have better specifications (frequency response, THD and S/N), but it's probable that the differences aren't audible to the human ear, and I'd argue that on most of our set ups, with used, low quality punk rock vinyl with cheap amps and cheap speakers and cheap cartridges, the Behringer vs. the TCC would be hard to tell them apart in situ. That said, both of the $40 models have extra features, such as a level knob for adjustments (and with the ART DJ it has a switchable input capacitance and low cut/flat filterng). I've also read a few reports of bad/noise power supply on the pp400, but those could just be grounding issues/user error. Anyway, are these on paper specifications and options worth an extra $20? to some, maybe. The real question is, how much of a step up is the PP400 from the onboard preamp? It's only $20, so I guess it wouldn't hurt to get it and see how it does. Listen for yourself. All that said, chutterhanban has a good point, and I don't think any flak is needed. Also, that Sherwood receiver mentioned by ComaChameleon is another idea to get a phonostage with an amp all together (for a bit under $100), and you don't have to worry about cleaning vintage components and possible switching capacitors on old, used solid state stuff as other have suggested (myself included).
  5. What sort of speakers do you have, what sort of amp do you have? What cartridge and turntable are you using? Is your listening area acoustically treated in any way? In all reality, depending on those variables, you may not hear much of a difference if you upgrade your pre-amp to a <$100 model (not that a more expensive one would be that much better either). That said, there are two pretty good preamps in that price range (well actually, closer to $40). The TCC TC-750LC and the ART DJ Pre II. I don't really think the cambridge 640 is anywhere close to 4x as good as those (even though it is 4 times as expensive). Why do you want to bypass your built-in preamp? Do you know the specifications of it? I second the idea of getting a vintage solid state receiver that has a built in phonostage, unless you are satisfied with your existing amp situation.
  6. Super low? Are you playing it at 33 rpm?
  7. Sorry if I am frantic. Look at my tradelist. I'm a nutty Converge completionist. And one way or another, I'm going to end up with a tour version of this 7" (even though there will be 2 other versions available online. I'll get those too). I'm just not trying to pay ebay prices, if I don't have to. I guess I haven't built up enough online capital to have fellow board members do me this favor, so I'm being a bit ridiculous about the whole matter. I'd say, for most people, it would make sense just to wait, if their goal is to have this on 7", regardless of variant. But maybe some people think the tour version is more rare, or they like the colors more, or they are just being frantic. I am a bit curious why there are so many people asking for this tour 7", when it will be made available online sooner rather than later.
  8. 4 copies? I have none. I assume those 3 extra are for helping out fellow board members, right? RIGHT?
  9. I'm still trying to track down a tour copy... any leads?
  10. Times like these, I wish I had more internet friends. Just about every other time, though, I don't mind.
  11. Check it out: http://www.jacobbannon.com/possess
  12. Sir, I accept your challenge. Also, the bigger picture of this story is... Juan has four and I has zero??? No way!
  13. If anyone can pick me up a copy..........
  14. I have no self control. At least my 1st order had earned me enough points that I got 15% off the already heavily discounted prices.
  15. Vintage has it's disadvantages in that it can be expensive or labor/skill intensive to properly restore (especially old tube equipment), if you don't buy already restored items. But it can also be rewarding, and if you shop around, perhaps even real cheap. If you aren't interested in going that route, then I'd argue that the digital amps in modern receivers aren't much inferior to stand alone digital amps, watt for watt (of course, you can get much more power by going stand alone, but in terms of sound quality, that is about all you'll get more of if they are both quality components). Tube amps are another story, and you might want to seriously consider Yaqin and other Chinese manufactures options for budget solutions. Finally, one other thing to consider, in terms of sound quality, is room acoustics. If you don't have a properly acoustically treated room, then the small differences between various hifi components aren't really going to shine through. Because of this, I wouldn't shy away from an AV receiver if you have your PS3 and media server. Having a dedicated stereo system in a dedicated, treated room is rewarding to some, but on a $2000 in a family room or bedroom, I think getting a quality lower end receiver would work just fine. Therefore, I wouldn't recommend spending over $500 on a turntable/cartridge pair. Then take roughly $200-400 to spend on a receiver or amp + preamp, and sink the rest into speakers, as I think they are the biggest component to sound quality outside of room acoustics.
  16. I really don't think there is a significant difference between the $40/50 phono preamps and the $150 preamps. You could save $100 by going with the ART DJ Pre II or the TCC TC-750. Also, do you need an integrated amp? Are you going to be using all those inputs? Hooking up a CD player, tape deck, DVD player, tuner, etc? If not, you could get a power amp like the Behringer a500. Or for the very budget minded there is the Sherwood RX4109 if you still need additional connectivity of a receiver/integrated amp. I have to go, more later...
  17. Or on a giant pile of marijuana... smoke your earnings.
  18. I'm just mad I lost the auction. Doesn't the internet know I called dibs on another forum in a joke thread?
  19. I have a test of walking wounded I'd trade for major wants of mine. I got rid of most my bayside collection so it isn't as important to me now. I read that first, and thought you were talking about the Everything but the Girl album, and got briefly interested...
  20. All used. Couldn't find any RSD releases that I wanted. Most everything was gone by the time I went out. Visited 4 record stores, but brunch came first. We are pretty serious about brunch here in Richmond, but apparently nerds and flippers are more serious about records...
  21. Well, I'm sure there are counter examples to prove me wrong, but in this case, I like to think the blame isn't so much RSD and the nature of vinyl collecting, but the fact that this is a corporate band on a major label. I couldn't see No Idea or Deathwish charging $45 for a 3xLP ever. And they repress popular items in their catalog when they can.
  22. Either none of my stores had this LP, or they were all taken when I showed up. I saw it posted online last night and I totally regret not buying it, but I thought I was going to be able to support local business and all that...
