Here, in the everyday real world, when most people hear pedophile, they think something akin to mustachio creep-show sitting outside of an elementary school playground, not a guy in his twenties sexting with a girl in her mid-late teens. We also do not know that Jesse actually had sex with a minor. So. It still means sexual attraction to prepubescent children.
 
Anyone is free to use whatever term they chose, but "pedophile" still, literally, does not fit the bill here.

Have some common sense and try to imagine how easily someone in his position could manipulate these girls into thinking this was a good thing they had going until they grew up and realized he used them as masturbation material when they were too young to know better.

I was skeptical of the validity of the claims as well until the statement was released, and I am a woman that has been put in more gross situations than any of you guys would think. It's not such a far fetched notion to acknowledge that anyone can say anything on the internet to gain attention/cause trouble. It's the easiest thing in the world to sit behind your keyboard in the comfort of your home and spread lies. It's also not such a far fetched notion to acknowledge that people we may admire such as Lacey and C.K. might be gross. I think anyone in here that was skeptical were keeping the door open to both possibilities until more information was provided.

The only even halfway reasonable excuse that I can imagine is that this specific young lady looked old enough to pass for 18 and lied about her age, anything beyond that is completely unacceptable. I'll give anyone accused of something the benefit of the doubt, but since didn't deny it in his statement, and made an apology to numerous women, I accept that this is probably true.

Try and present that excuse in front of a judge in the United States judicial system and you'll be laughed out of the room straight into your jail cell as a registered sex offender. Even more so if there are other stories that we don't know about from his past which he has alluded to and there are countless other rumors floating around.
 
A child in the US is still considered from age 0 -17. He was a legal adult. The definition of pedophilia is pretty clear in a court room and is pretty obviously used among society as meaning anyone that preys on a child regardless of their attributes. Premeditated actions and manipulation also were at play here. Really sounds like you're trying to justify his actions and the situation as passable which I hope is not the case and you just poorly worded your post.
 
Bottom line is the guy is a shit bag. I wont support him with money but I will most likely continue to listen to their music in the future. I agree that the 'public judge and jury outrage machine' is dangerous but that's how society functions.

If the allegations are true then Jesse is pretty scummy but I won't stop listening to Brand New. I might try to avoid giving Jesse any of my money, but I still enjoy his music so I'll listen to the records and files I already have.
