  1. I can't do just one opening track. Hell, my list is down to 20 and I don't know where to cut. I would take Radiohead- EIIRP but a lot of people already have that one. I'll give three in two very distinct categories: Best opening track that is also a great lead in for the album Flaming Lips- Race For the Prize (Remix) Best opening track that's just great as a standout track Stars- Your Ex-Lover Is Dead (my favorite song of all time) The Beta Band- Dry The Rain
  2. 2000% accurate on that one. Edit- Since npr asking for just one I'll go with: NIN- Hurt
  3. It is not irrelevant at all. Information like this can cause the OP to resent their father. It already has begun to drastically affect the relationship they once had. As was mentioned before, just tell your father what you saw, that you snooped, but it has upset you. Using Drabley's logic the OP was doing a good job learning how to snoop around behind loved ones' backs by checking through the text messages so the father can't really be mad at anyone but himself for inciting these actions. If you don't act suspiciously, people won't be suspicious of you. You sure you don't work in politics in Arizona?
  4. This has not been released yet but apparently someone found it in a Glasgow record store...What a find that would've been. I wonder if it's around anywhere else: http://pitchfork.com/news/38931-new-arcade-fire-single-is-out/
  5. I understand your perspective, but in my humble opinion after many years together (as this sounds like it is) there isn't all that much in black and white. To me a lifelong committment, family, home, etc wins the day over some whore getting her freak on. It's interesting, I used to agree with your perspective and I feel like I changed once I moved out to NJ. Being engrossed in the South American hispanic culture, it's pretty interesting how they handle it. Women instead of saying "You better not ever cheat on me" say "Don't let me ever catch you". It took me awhile to really wrap my head around why they have the different approach but I now understand. Hell, it seems to work since they are better at keeping their marriages together than the Americans. Not saying anything's right or wrong. Just giving an opinion and some different viewpoints. Ultimately it's always an individual thing.
  6. Eh...Not saying this is wrong, but I personally couldn't get too upset about someone withholding information they knew about me because they knew it was best for everyone. Talking to everyone else (not including the anonymous internet) but the person involved and keeping it to yourself are two very different things in my opinion. I think ascitiesburn's pretty spot on. I would actually argue that the more egregious gaffe on his part is to be so disrespectful to the family that he allowed for someone to find out. If you have to be an asshole then be an asshole, get it over with, and get your ass back to your committments. BTW- If you can't confront your father face-to-face initially you can always start with a letter.
  7. My favorite thing lately has been scooping stuff up at the Insound Warehouse sales. A lot of times, very surprisingly, the interns don't know what they are doing and don't know how to price shit properly. The 7" bins is where you really find the buys. They've got a whole box that they label $5 but, like this one, aren't necessarily $5 records: http://www.insound.com/The_Apples_in_Stereo_Song_for_Stephen_Colbert_Picture_Disc_7%22/productmain/p/INS50699/ That record wasn't on a discount...They just fucked up. In fact I asked the guy if this was really $5 and he's like, "Uh...It doesn't have a tag on it so I guess so" (moron). I enjoy it more for the fact that I beat them at their own game then any particular resale value.
  8. and here I never knew EITS did the Friday Night Lights Soundtrack. Cool...
  9. Thanks for the head's up on this. Picked up a few goodies including this incredible package by some band Underoath. $80 box set for $20. The packaging is so awesome, I almost don't care if the music sucks.
  10. Could they get coaches fired in two straight playoff series'?
  11. It's amazing to see how many people will line up to watch people stuff their faces (says the guy who's watched the Hot Dog Eating Contest on ESPN for 15 years).
  12. I don't know but it was a GREAT show last night. That party does not get old.
  13. Blame James. His label, his album. They somehow managed to get that very comprehensive (sarcasm) RSD release out.
  14. nobody said he was trying to change his number mid-season. at the beginning of this year, he said he would change his number to 6 during this upcoming offseason because he didn't think anybody should wear 23 anymore out of respect for MJ. he's been in the league 7 years now... what's with this newfound respect for the greatest player to ever live? what he's doing is trying to create his own brand. everybody who knows anything about sports knows that 23 = michael jordan. no matter how great lebron is and will become, 23 will always be michael jordan's number and part of his identity. so before lebron starts winning his championships, he's going to change to a number that is not as closely identifiable to any one particular player, thus creating his own brand that will last for decades. it's an INCREDIBLY smart business move. Actually last time I checked, Nov. 14th (the day this story was posted) is after October 27th (the beginning of the season). I think that constitutes mid-season whether explicitly stated or not http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=4650907 http://espn.go.com/nba/schedule/_/date/20091027 Whatever the fine is, that piles up over 70+ games. Travis- I was saying that Orlando IS a good team. Someone was trying to claim they are not top-tier (probably a drunk Boston fan ) BTW- Russell and Erving shouldn't care less about LeBroom taking #6. Since it's about branding as you say, LeBroom doesn't care about what good players have won the number, instead he'd be worried about who's marketing the number. In terms of the current social conscious, no one really cares about Dr. J or Bill Russell so why not.
  15. Ah you went to the BAM show. You didn't happen to take the bus over from the listening party did you? Was there an awareness by people at BAM that the bus was there and what had happened with it? gheorge77- Note I don't think Academy is a bad store, but when you are visiting you only have so much time to hit everything. I would just select others that's all. In my opinion if you're going to go for used, it's worth the trip to Princeton. It's easily the best used record store I've ever been in (and it's not even close).
  16. He answered my tweet!!! (probably along with 1000 others asking the same thing)
  17. LeBron should have known when he entered the league he should not have worn 23. Every single "great" player had a number. Odd I should say this given Kobe's jump to 24. That all said, no one wears 66 or 99 in the NHL. There's a reason for that. The only reason that LeBron couldn't do it this year is because you can't change a number mid-season without paying a fine. It's all about mandates from the league it has nothing to do with LeBroom being a swave businessman. Travis, puff puff give dude if you really think Orlando is a top-tier team. To say that Boston, who was left for dead a month ago is the ONLY team on the top line of talent is absurd. Orlando and LA definitely have the talent. Also, the Turkoglu/Carter trade was anything but minor. They both do VERY different things and to think that taking away the guy who controlled the ball is not going to critically affect the flow of the offense is absurd.
  18. I'll certainly be spending plenty of time at Nevada Smith's (best soccer bar in NYC) in June.
  19. What do you do with Brooklyn bands who moved there from another city?
  20. The problem with Orlando is that their "dominant" post presence has no post moves to warrant a double team. He gets hustle and power points. While that can add to a significant number on paper, his offensive game doesn't force the defense to make adjustments allowing the D to stay home on all shooters. McHale, Parish, Olajuwon, Ewing, Duncan. Those guys all had post moves that made the defense committ multiple defenders allowing an open pass to a spot up shooter. The common thread is that each of them scored at will without having to get to the tin. Howard being such a big physical specimen has never needed to do any of that and now he's peaked. We'll see if in the off-season he develops some offensive moves to alleviate those weak points but right now Orlando just doesn't have it with him in the post.
  21. I just got an e-mail from a mom-and-pop saying that this LP is only being released in the UK. Is that true? Can anyone verify this? It would blow my mind if that were indeed the case.
  22. Wish that would happen, but previous precedent says when it's running v. defense, defense wins out almost every time. huh....
