  1. slept on this, missed the red :-/ maybe Eef will have some when he plays Chicago this weekend??
  2. what's the deal with this one? presumably the tests are of the plain white pic disc variety. yes/no/maybe? how many are there? HOOK A BROTHA' UPPPPP. $150
  3. while I've never dealt with them personally, I know that FreeGeekChicago (in Logan Square) sells uber-cheap (like $100) laptops running Ubuntu. presumably you could install Windows, although the specs are probably pretty low, but Ubuntu + VLC can def handle the 'movies, music, web' combo regardless. figured I'd mention it..
  4. please direct me to the kickstarter for .Gif of Game Fact: i own 'butterfly' on 45. great for IRL trolling.
  5. Lest we forget, ICP are the MOST SUCCESSFUL 'independent' musicians of all time, monetarily speaking. Not that White's been slacking, either. Pretty much everything Third Man does could be considered a 'novelty' record.. This is what happens when people have too much money.
  6. mostly directed at Travis, but anyone can weigh in on this: 1) is this a new pressing from the same plates as the orig, or a remaster? 2) are the samples and/or the MJ skit included in any way, or were those cut? I've never heard the original vinyl version, so I'm uncertain as to which version of the CD it most closely resembles.
  7. ^^highly agree with the Dax Riggs sentiment. album is killer, and Fat Possum DOES put shit out on vinyl. clueless as to why that one was CD only. [[[[[[[[ALSO]]]]]]]] Billy Bragg & Wilco - Mermaid Ave vol.II first one's on vinyl, second one's CD only. major labels are theee worst when it comes to that shit. ideally a swank 4xLP box with BOTH volumes will eventually show up, but who knows what the deal is with the rights to this [lyrics by Guthrie, music by Wilco AND Bragg, released by Elektra who -strictly speaking- no longer exist..] I'm not holding my breath.
  8. any update to this situation? i'm STILL considering throwing some $$ this guy's way for a couple of one-offs, since about half of the people who've weighed in DID receive their shit. if i get burned, whatever, it's only money. just curious as to whether anything else has happened in the last week.
  9. NOT 'wanted to buy', so much as 'wanted'. physical, digital, I'll take whatever I can get. hence posting here rather than 'sale'. After Every Tempest. emo/screamo/post-rock/whatever band from PA. I have their CD, but have been looking for the demo for YEARS. Soulseek has been no help, but perhaps y'all, with your particular taste for those genres, might be able to help a brotha' out. This would be the demo with 'Everybody Hates Their Hometown' on it. I will trade you tons of rare mp3 gems. get at me, dawg.
  10. Fingers crossed that 'The Cure' being on that list means a 'Wish' reissue. Never had a US vinyl release to begin with, so $35+ isn't that bad, especially if they were to add some extras (ie the 'Lost Wishes' cassette tracks thrown in).
  11. from Wikipedia (yes, there's an entry on Picture Discs): Red Raven released 78 rpm children's records with an animation printed onto the disc. They included a little mirrored device (similar to a praxinoscope) to be placed on the turntable's spindle, reflecting the animation in such a way that while the record plays one gets to see an endlessly repeating animated cartoon. Later, 33¨÷ rpm vinyl records with animation on the labels were also produced. Later picture discs included liquid light show style fluids between the vinyl, Rowlux 3D effect film, defraction rainbow film, metal flake (vide examples here), pressure-sensitive liquid crystals that changed color when the record was picked up, a real holographic record (the first ever), and even a genuine "live album." Made as a demonstration for Stevie Wonder's Journey through the Secret Life of Plants, it featured a layer of blotting paper between the clear vinyl layers that contained alfalfa seeds. A tag of the blotting paper protruded below the record, and resting the disc on a glass of water with the paper in the water allowed the seeds to germinate and grow inside the record. When the prototype was taken through customs in Canada it was seized by the Department of Agriculture, making it not only the only real live album but the only record ever banned by the Department of Agriculture (alfalfa being a prohibited import). Damn, just IMAGINE what Cannabis Corpse could do with that Stevie Wonder technology!!
  12. Karate Kevin would look nice on a rectangular disc, ala the 'Turning Japanese' promo:
  13. ..and inevitably point out those suggestions that HAVE been done already so we can go and ogle them. [haven't typed "ogle" in a while!] bonus points if you can come up with a pic disc / jacket combo, ala the Rzl Dzl lp. speaking of inevitable, let's ignore the 'sound quality', 'split seams on pvc', & 'picture discs are lame' issues for the time being. this thread is all about proposing aesthetic ideas. to start with: black vinyl lp that's been beat to hell. grime, tons of scratches, a bored-out center hole, some asshole's name written all over the labels.. basically make it look like that 'VG-' you got eScrewed on that one time.
  14. I wasn't suggesting that he doesn't have money (although plenty of folks in this thread have mentioned his fondness for the installment plan); rather that his bizarre, compulsive need to bid on EVERY fucking record you folks throw on ebay could net him a nice collection if he directed his energies toward making legit money instead of fucking with y'all. It's like the old quip about drug dealers - that with their tireless work ethic and ruthless business acumen, they could make fortunes in the world of legitimate business. Instead they put up with drug trade bullshit for comparatively paltry sums. Why? Couldn't tell ya.
  15. ^truth^ if this dude would apply the same amount of time & energy expended scamming kids to some legitimate enterprise, he'd probably have enough to pay for records AND THEN SOME.
  16. Right then, so nobody's actually HEARD anything about more releases. Bummertown. DUKE=OUT!!
  17. Having read through this whole thing, I a) feel sorry for everybody dealing with this troll & found myself wondering: does he obsess/bid at random, or are there certain bands/labels he compulsively bids on??
  18. Has anyone heard anything about a vinyl release for the 2002 H.R.?? I figured Boris would take a break from their release schedule after dropping 4 LPs earlier in the year, but they just did a split 7" with some Czech band, and they've got a remix 12" coming out soon too, apparently. So now I'm not so sure. Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?? Obviously I'd prefer a sweet Orange 2xLp to the 2-song '1970' 7", but if the former's never happen then I'm gonna start saving for the latter..
  19. speaking of 'black.. america', how funny was Precious?! (in which Mr. Kravitz acted).
  20. www.reckless.com Reckless Records Chicago has 1st, 2nd, & 3rd press copies, all used. Brown/White is $30.
  21. picked a copy up from the shop last night. LOOKS gorgeous, nice'n'heavy. excited to give it a spin tonight after work.
  22. was i too stingy, internets? alright then. $125!! that's one hunnert'n twenny-five (gradually depreciating) American Dollars. it's been on ebay twice, once at $40ish and once at 60ish. that's 3 times the low end, & TWICE the high-end. best you're gonna do on this, i guar-an-tee.. HIT ME UP!!!
