  1. chicago's hardcore scene has a longstanding boycott against anything this asshole (Mike) does, so I sat it out per usual. bummer that the Descendents played (and played WELL, by all accounts), as I'd love to have seen them. can't reconcile that with the idea of letting 'RiotMike' (or is it RedBull Mike now??) make even a dollar off of me. so it goes..
  2. Prrrretty sure that RSD is for those who remember -if not Roosevelt- at least Carter. The labels churning out these 'exclusives' could really give a shit what some broke college kids want. They're looking to hook the same demographic that buys Mo-Fi inners for their $140 reissue of a U2 record*, ie those with real disposable income. For certain shops, RSD is great - they make a killing on some no-brainer stock which keeps the doors open so they can carry/sell a niche product the other 364. For smaller labels, they can rush or delay a release date to piggyback on RSD insanity in hopes of clearing out some stock, which is also awesome in that it facilitates future releases. By and large though, the RSD releases are shit. Either they're totally unnecessary (omg a 4x10" of a record that was overrated when it came out 20 years ago, & yawn-inducing when it was reissued 2 weeks ago), idiotically limited (an RSD release under 200 copies isn't a record, it's a press release for iTunes), or ..um, ..ironically "limited" (ie all that crap from 2 years ago you can STILL find at most shops >> looking at YOU, 'Soft Pack 7" box set' et al). rant over. tl;dr, i know.
  3. please post a follow-up about the merch table. I'm in Chicago and considering seeing them on Wednesday, but the place they're playing is kind of a trek for me. Sweet merch-lusives would certainly go a long way to motivating me to bike all the way there..
  4. insatiable desire to combine my love of Unrest & coffee. help me out!!!
  5. do you have the Imperial FFRR mug? how about the Perfect Teeth mug?? if so I will pay obscene amounts for either/both. i realize this is a long shot since this thread doesn't have a single acronym for a band I've never heard of, but I know some of y'all have been in this game long enough to actually have these...
  6. [WISDOM] FALSE. at eighteen you should be focusing on sex. preferably with girls (as many as possible). or dudes, if that's yr thing. every 7" you buy is a box of condoms you didn't. you can get the records on ebay later. [/WISDOM]
  7. "one of the best drone scores of all time" i'm kind of dumbfounded by this statement. not that the music from Maniac isn't enjoyable, but moreso that if not for 1) the whole neo-nu-age synth revival 2) a new touring print of the film 3) the artwork tie-in with a nerdy poster site NO ONE WOULD CARE. there are literally hundreds of droning, Morodor/Simonetti esque sountracks to obscure horror flicks doomed to lanquish in obscurity, chillin' in the stack of vhs tapes at your parents house. so while it's cool that this movie and it's score are getting some love (gotta love Tom Savini's death scene), I'm having a hard time believing the hype.
  8. bore it out and stick a 45 adaptor in there!! kidding, i think.
  9. can we please have a Mezzanine reissue now?
  10. But You Might Not post a link to yr list?
  11. blahh, just got off the phone with a few more shops in the area. EVERY one of 'em ordered from RedEye (they of the "we only got 100") and don't expect to be getting any at this point. bummertown. is it 2012 yet? :-/
  12. last album ruled (waiting on that repress), excited to hear this!
  13. I keep a stock of plain white inners on hand for those records with printed inners (to avoid splitting the seams on 'em) or beat up 'off-whites'. Records I paid over $50 tend to get the poly-lined inners. Everything stays inside the lp jacket, partly because I too enjoy the act of disassembly involved in playing them and partly to conserve space. Putting the records behind the jacket would take up around 1&1/2 times the space, any my expedit is already close to full. [seriously, imagine a thick gatefold housing printed cardstock inners housing two 180g lps. Something on Southern Lord maybe. Now imagine those two 180g lps behind that jacket, and you're looking at like half-an-inch for a single album. That's just absurd.]

  17. i'm not in there as much as i was, owing to now having a baby at home, but if you ever catch me there DO introduce yourselves. I'm Andrew - friendlier than Joe, shorter than Ignatiy.

  19. @Kriss, you probably do. I put in an occasional shift at Odd Obsession in Bucktown and seemingly qualify for the 'neighborhood' discount (from the dudes at Reckless who know me, anyway). make sure to ask one of the dudes that's been there a while about it (but not Connelly, unless you've got a rapport with him). i'd advise asking Gar, Magas, Dan, or Cortland. @minor - what kind of phone do you have? ie does it have an mp3 player on it?

  21. Yeesh - tough crowd/thread, but then "you play in the mud, you get dirty". Seriously though, there needs to be an appendix to Muphry's Law, wherein a critique of someone's lack of humor sheds an equal amount of light on the critic's deficiency in same.
