  1. I'm seeing them close to the end of the tour. I'll do my best to secure them for myself and grab spares if they allow it. I'd rather trade though than straight up sell for cash. I'll update this thread after the show with what I find.
  2. A few months ago I found a copy in great condition for $50. More than I should spend on a second copy, but dreams like that can come true. Just picked up Spiritualized - Live at Royal Albert Hall in pretty much brand new condition for 30 on Discogs yesterday.
  3. Hey there Mr Jumpy, I never questioned the merits of the label at all. I never said he shouldnt be putting out the stuff that is. All I said was that the limited stuff is that price strictly to make alot of money of his fans. It even says to sell the stuff you dont like cause someone will pay that price. If you want to argue the merits of having a single lp that has some bad sound (as mentinoed by others in this thread) for 100 dollars, please do, I would love to see how it is cool for the label to charge that much to a diehard fan. Again, got no issue with the bands on the label, thinking he shouldnt have a label or anything else, just the price of his shit. I actually think the live at third man series is a pretty sweet idea and hope it continues to grow more and more. I'd be pissed if they were all $100, but they still press an unlimited amount in black for very reasonable prices. If people feel like $100 is too much they don't have to buy it. I would never pay that much for them, but at the end of the day 500 people are willing and able to pay for it and I have no problem with that. EDIT: And I realize I was a bit jumpy, and I apologize. I've just seen these threads elsewhere always turn into a "bitch about Jack White" thread. It is what it is, and it it might be more expensive then some, but it's also a lot cooler than almost everything else (if his music/taste are your things).
  4. Few people go apeshit and buy everything they put out (admittedly some do). Most people just enjoy a few of the 7"s of year and buy the ones the like. What's wrong with him releasing a bunch of music he enjoys? Considering he is actively involved in almost every release, he likes what he's doing. He's not putting out anything and everything he has no interest in just to make a few bucks. But that's all I will say on the topic. Every TMR thread starts innocently enough and ends with a debate about the merits of the label. Obviously enough people in this thread enjoy what they are doing and don't feel ripped off cause they release some cool limited items that are a bit more expensive than some others (they also give a lot of these items away for free randomly).
  5. how much you want for that absinthe? Considering I got it for free, $500. And I forgot I have the Horehound split colour LP as well. That was the first one I got.
  6. I have a Jack White FFB tri-color, 2-3 other tri-colors, all but 2 of the SXSW 8" and 13" records, Black Belles absinthe, colored Let's Shake Hands and Lafayette Blues and the Karen Elson flower 7". Plus all the Vault packages. Considering I live nowhere near Nashville and getting them all at cost, I've done alright.
  7. I'll offer you cost plus shipping on the Jackson Square test press considering I missed out when it went on sale and you don't want it. I live in Toronto and can pick it up. Everyone goes home happy. I'm also looking at your other post and am interested in the Willy Mason and BRMC stuff. I can offer you a package price if you are willing to part with Jackson Square around cost.
  8. This is what I get for going out drinking last night and not checking email. Why the hell did they have to release something on a Friday night? Oh well.
  9. they were selling the clear 7" on tour for 7 or 8 bucks. maybe they were sold out later in the tour, but i picked it up when i saw them in toronto.
  10. Especially when you can get Vol I & II in 12" form for 25.00. If you want the bootlegged version.
  11. And they said it was sold out when I checked the merch table after the show...
  12. Oh yeah. She's auctioned off all kinds of cool shit. I've bought a few things from her. She has also sold many non Man's Ruin items from other bands I'm into. I didn't see those two. $270 for the Gamma Ray stampers ain't bad. Wish I would have seen that as I would have probably placed a bid. They might have been Buy It Nows. A friend is friends with her on Facebook and we've seen photos of her QOTSA VHS collection. She has VHS recordings of pretty much all the early QOTSA shows in the late 90s. We tried to get her to sell those, but I don't think they are going anywhere.
  13. Oh yeah, I've been doing that for years also. And I'm sure many others have as well. Me thinking I'm gonna finagle a great deal for myself but then 5 other people are bidding in the last few seconds as well. That damn OG s/t has eluded me for too long. The reissue is fantastic but I'm a QOTSA collector nerd so I want em all. Yeah, outside of test presses, it's really the only thing I need. One day I'll bite the bullet.
  14. There was a set of QOTSA plates that sold a few years back and it went for a bit over $1500. Those two you mentioned are obviously not very desirable since those bands have a limited fan base. Did you buy your QOTSA record from a seller on eBay? If so, can you PM me with his eBay name. I'd like to see what else he may have. You probably already know about the seller "boomgoesthedynomite" as she has sold a bunch of Mans Ruin/Kyuss stuff. She worked for Mans Ruin (basically ran the business) and is worth watching. Most stuff is gone by now, but myself and friends have all gotten some cool stuff from her. Upon further review, it was either her who offered them, because she sold them on eBay, or the guy who bought both of them, as the same guy bought both. She sold the Gamma Ray stampers not too long ago. They went for 270. She also sold the S/T vinyl cutting CDR master for 370.
  15. All of what he said. Also, take note that whenever someone is selling a legit OG pressing of QOTSA - s/t that they're gonna be very descriptive in the auction. They will have multiple photos, explain the matrix numbers in the dead wax etc etc. There's a ton of people always selling the bootleg and it's usually a simple description with no pertinent information. I've been waiting for the auction of someone selling a legit pressing and just having no idea what they have for years now. In maybe one or two cases the description was vague but asking questions proved it was legit. Unfortunately other people figured out what I did and ended up outbidding me, like they always do.
  16. Do these things sell a lot? I bought a QOTSA record recently and the guy said: "Do you collect any Man's Ruin stuff? I have some vinyl pressing plates/stampers for MR-019 and MR-096 if you want. Each is a set of two plates with a vinyl 7" copy. $50 per set if you want one, I can send pictures of course." I didnt know there was market for tertiary collectibles like this. I'm sure there are Mans Ruin collectors (I've bought stuff for Kozik's artwork and cause it was cheap), but I think most people would collect the bands moreso than the label. I don't know how much those particular pressing plates would be unless you found a fan of the bands. The Queens ones will go high, because all their shit is now expensive, and they are really rare. At least I can say I was the first to bid on this particular item.
  17. They might start getting their funds held for 30 days because of your claims. Well I'm not doing it to the same sellers every time (once it happens once I tend to avoid them). And if they get their funds held because of my one claim it's either because PayPal really sucks more than I thought, or they have had other problems in the past. But if that is the case, I may try and use Google Checkout more as I'm hoping their terms are less stringent.
  18. Whoa dude - how often have you been ripped off that you need "to get into the habit of filing a paypal claim" after 40 days?! I have never once in my history of buying records via the interwebz needed to file a paypal claim...and it's not like I'm some n00b with 4 LPs in their collection! 4-5 times I've actually been ripped off (record was warped beyond belief, one item of an order didn't arrive, the sleeve was empty, etc) Now I've probably ordered over 100 things online so the percentage is quite small, but if you let it go over 45 days you have no recourse with PayPal (luckily there is still Visa). So to be safe, if it isn't here by 40 days I'll file a claim and just note in the description of what the seller receives that it is no direct slight on them, but I need a plan if the item doesn't arrive. I am unsure if opening claims that you end up clearing yourself has negative long-term impact on other people's PayPal accounts though.
  19. Even as a buyer PayPal sucks. Most times I will pay, and assume shipping takes roughly 2-4 weeks. After a month, I will email the seller, we'll go back and forth and they say problem solved. I wait another 2 weeks for a new one to arrive, and I'm already over the 45 day window. 45 days is not enough time. I now have to get in the habit of opening a claim every time at 40-45 days if it hasn't arrived yet, which is a pain in the ass. Luckily I use Visa for everything online, and they have refunded me the 2-3 times I've been ripped off and it was past the PayPal claim window. Twice they asked for emails, backup, etc. The last time they just refunded me $50 on my next statement without any documentation. It was great.
  20. I hope you aren't buying all new books. Used and online discount sites are the only way to go.
  21. Unless they specifically said in the listing it was original, it's your fault for buying it. The listing likely said "Blue pressing of QOTSA - S/T" which isn't really a lie. If you paid less than $300 for it, you should have known something was up. You need to ask plenty of questions before placing your bid.
  22. Here is the problem with that policy: They take your billing information ahead of time, but don't charge. That is all fine and dandy in a perfect world, but there are at least seven reasons why this is a pain in the ass. 1. You move. Now you have the records being sent to your old location. You can switch your address assuming it isn't in a grey area where you are just about to move and the record is just about to ship. If you are switching countries there will be added shipping costs. That is if you even remember ordering an LP three months ago when you are moving which is often a stressful situation. 2. You die. That record is gunna do you a lot of good now. You could have purchased a different record and enjoyed it while you were still alive. 3. It is a gift. Missing planned release dates could mean someone doesn't get a gift in time. Now you have to scramble to get a new gift. 4. You lose your credit card (An example that has actually happened to me). You go to the bank and cancel your card. You get a new number that doesn't match your old one. You get an email saying your credit card has been rejected. WTF I have tons of money. Oh yeah I lost my credit card when I was out Ballin' that one night. I'll just give them the new number. Oh sorry the item is sold out now. Thanks, dick. What could also happen is it gets stolen and now the account is frozen along with the money to pay the pre-order. 5. You get poor. You overdraft your account. The preorder is finally ready and they charge you and it gets rejected or you get hit with another fee. 6. Your interests change. Maybe you really liked Blink 182, but then you see them live and are like WTF I don't want this record anymore. Or you are really into Brand New and then one of the members bangs your sister. Not cool dude. But I still have to buy your record. 7. The label goes belly up and doesn't issue refunds. Or they just take your money and run. If you think this doesn't happen you are wrong. There are people running labels with as much business sense as Michael Scott and as much integrity as James Ford. 1. Fair point. It has happened, but I just switched the mailing address to a friend who wasn't moving without issue. Not a major trouble if you ask me. 2. Oh well, what's some money when I'm dead. And since I wasn't charged yet before dying, I still have money to buy other records I want. 3. Yeah, that would suck. But give them a card in the meantime and say sorry, you'll gift will arrive soon. They should understand if they are decent people. 4. You should have a list of outstanding orders. Email the label and say I got a new card, can I have it changed? 5. I'll concede this point. I don't plan on getting poor. 6. My interests won't change too too much in 3 months. And I can always just sell it and only lose a couple bucks. 7. If you used Visa, Visa will refund you without question. I've gotten money back from them countless times. Then they will go and deal with the label. All in all, as long as you remember you ordered it, most situations you mentioned can be taken care of quite easily. I still see no major issues with the practice and will continue using it.

  24. Isn't the standard policy for most shops and pre-orders to take payment details but not charge the customer until the item ships. At least that's how most I've done have worked, and see no problem with that policy.
