torres got a reaction from cambionic in Sublime - Jah Won't Pay The Bills
These songs are pretty much identical on Jah and 40 Oz:DJ's
    Badfish
    Let's Go Get Stoned
    New Song
    Live at E's
These songs/versions are not on 40 Oz:
    Had a Dat
    Don't Push
    Ball & Chain
    Slow Ride
Date Rape (version exclusive to Jah)
What I wish they would have done was re-compile the 88-91 era songs rather than re-create a Jah release. Leave out any songs/versions that were on the mainstream release of 40 oz, pick out the best stuff. Basically a combination of tracks from Second Hand Smoke and Everything Under The Sun, but much more organized. Something like this...
Sublime - The Early Years ('88 to '91)
    1. Roots of Creation
    2. Perfect World
    3. Chick On My Tip
    4. Romeo
    5. New Realization
    6. Had A Dat
    7. Slow Ride
    8. Trenchtown Rock
    9. Get Out!
    10. Johnny Too Bad
    11. Ball and Chain (EUTS)
    12. Smoke Two Joints (EUTS)
    13. Don't Push (SHS)
    14. Date Rape (EUTS or Jah)
    15. Ebin (EUTS)
For whatever reason, a lot of Sublime fans just want re-creations of every old release. Collectors want represses for the green and clear date rape vinyl release, which would be such a waste.

    A couple of remarks:
    - I think rather than pressing the posthumous releases (post Self-titled) on vinyl, I think they should re-compile the songs and THEN release them. It's honestly a mess of songs among Second Hand Smoke, the Acoustic album, the self-titled deluxe edition, and Everything Under The Sun. A little scary that an entire 8 years passed between the release of the Acoustic album and Everything Under The Sun. Some politics were involved in that, but still. The fact that there was so much material that didn't see the light of day for such a long time, it's just crazy. It's part of the reason why I think they should start fresh with new compilations for everything that was released after Self-Titled.
    - Adding on to the last point, you can easily make a compilation of the best of Sublime's early recordings prior to the release of 40 Oz. To Freedom. Most of these songs would come from Second Hand Smoke and Everything Under The Sun. The band practically had an entire album of material prior to 40 Oz.

    06. Ebin (EUTS)
    07. Date Rape (EUTS)
    08. Ball and Chain (EUTS)

    12. Trenchtown Rock (SHS)
    13. Johnny Too Bad (EUTS)
    14. Smoke Two Joints (EUTS)
Basically, you can make a playlist out of those 14 songs I listed and make the pre-cursor to 40 Oz.
    - It's surprising to me how good "Stand By Your Van" sounds compared to the "3 Ring Circus: Live at the Palace". Someone botched the audio on the 3 Ring Circus release because there should be no reason why Caress Me Down on Stand By Your Van actually sounds a lot better than on 3 Ring Circus. The bass on 3 Ring Circus sounds terrible, and it wasn't because of Eric's playing. If his tone sounded fine on Caress Me Down on Stand By Your Van, then how could they not get it ride on 3 Ring Circus when it's the same show. Obviously the rest of Stand By Your Van was from different shows, so that's why I bring up Caress Me Down.

The digital downloads are $4. They also leaked the music for free previously. I don't see the harm in charging $25 taking into considering that it helps to finance Will Swan's label and that Jon Mess himself designed/painted the artwork. Do I personally wish they would have charged $15 for it? Sure. However, I don't see this as the band disrespecting their fans.
What is the recommended profit margin for a vinyl release?

I'm very surprised this hasn't been pressed recently.

Best album since In Defense Of The Genre. Very cohesive. Unlike Self-Titled and Anarchy, Hebrews doesn't come across like a bunch of songs just thrown together on an album with little regard to flow or song sequencing. There is a general theme/concept. Basically, it plays like an album, which is the same feeling I had about Is A Real Boy and even In Defense Of The Genre. I also LOVE the fact that Max tried something drastically different with this album, rather than a re-hash of the other albums. As an Incubus fan, it reminds me of If Not Now When, which most fans despised, but I actually appreciated for similar reasons.

Originally was concerned for the album due to the singles released, but now I enjoy the singles when listening to them within the context of the record.

    Exactly.
It's expensive, but they're not making much money off of this. Even if they profited $20 grand off of this release, that's $20 grand that gets split among the band members. That's $20 grand that goes into financing future releases. That's $20 grand that really, considering the man hours that went into making and putting out those 4 songs, is less money than they would have made working day jobs.

I actually saw him at his headlining tour a few months ago. He was super friendly to me. Great with all the fans at the show too. He did not leave the venue until every fan who wanted one got an autograph and picture. Apparently he makes it a point not to drink prior to performing either, he turned down drink offers. He didn't even party after the show, I ran into him at the pizza place right beside the venue. Really great performance too. This was the 2nd time I had seen him since about 3 years prior at Warped Tour with DGD.
On pure vocal ability, regardless of how many singers are considered "better', Jonny is one of the few that has ever really caught my attention, regardless of genre. Stage presence, passion, he's had it in every live video I've seen of the guy whether sober or not. The guy sings as if singing is the only thing he's got. You can't teach that.
I never got to see my favorite musician of all time (Bradley Nowell) due to a heroin overdose. I honestly thought Jonny was extremely close to suffering the same fate. But since his fall from grace 2 years ago, Jonny has seemed to have turned it around for himself and hasn't had any major slip ups since. I'll admit, he's done plenty of deplorable things to justify such hostility towards him. I guess I'll consider myself one of the few who hasn't had a bad experience being a fan of the guy. Even DGD who you would think would have the most animosity towards the guy, are still all genuinely friends with the guy.

Good Charlotte's self-titled album was very solid. They had kind of a pop-punk meets Third Eye Blind type of sound on it that made them stand out. Very consistent album from start to finish, good catchy songs, not overproduced or too glossy for its own good. It combined some of the best elements of mid to late 90's mainstream punk and alternative rock.

They've surpassed Minus The Bear on my all time list. I have DGD 3rd, just a notch below Incubus and Sublime who will likely never be topped. Pretty exciting day to get DGD's entire catalog of albums in one shot. Hadn't purchased any DGD cd's with hopes that they'd eventually get pressed on vinyl.

I wish more DGD fans had your same attitude. I feel the same way. Every record they've put out has its own distinct identity. They've never made the same album twice.
I enjoy supporting these guys. They're not afraid to splice genres together, and on a personal level, they are really cool humble dudes in their mid 20's just passionate about music.
    6 records in 8 years, that's a hell of a run.
