  1. As long as it wasn't on when it got wet, and you're sure you fully dried it before turning it on you will most likely have no lasting damage. After years of people borrowing my amps and spilling tall boys of PBR directly into the head vent... my experience is that the short will happen more immediately rather than lay dormant for any amount of time.

  2. I've found the lo-fi and ambient genres to oddly have a reverse effect - I'll pop it on when I'm in a slump or bad spot, and the innate ambiance mixed with lush variety in sound textures just mellows me out and picks up my mood and washes over me. There are so many independent artists, and even the more well-known artists are so prolific there will certainly be no shortage of material to explore. Some of my favorites are below:

    Shlohmo

    Blithe Field

    Groundislava

    XXYYXX

    Ricky Eat Acid

Son Lux (a little more indie, with vocals)

Chillhop - Label with a ton of fantastic compilations they release (on vinyl at that) every quarter

Maybe something in here will be a good intro to the genre

  3. Clearing some space for all the recent preorders. If you don't like a price just shoot me a number, deals on multiple records and freebies here and there.

You can check my tradelist if you like as well, some artists are off limits but shoot me a PM if interested in anything.

I looked into the Budgie and it seems really great. Although, it's no longer made and only occasionally pop up on the bay. Any other comparable suggestions? Thanks for the help.

The Budgie was actually my first pre-amp upgrade and the result of a lot of research a couple years ago, so I don't have any personal experience with too many other pre-amps but I've heard good things about the Schiit line of products. Maybe take a look at the Saga? Again no personal experience but seems like a comparable if not a slightly less robust contender.

Never listened to Blithe Field before. I'll check that out!

Definitely check it out, Spencer Radcliffe has gone by many different pseudonyms in the past but Blithe Field is IMHO some of his best work if you're into the lo-fi scene. Plus added nostalgia points for the name referencing Judy's (Doug's older sister) art school, from Doug.

In addition to a handful of vinyl, he has a ton of digital EPs and albums and they're all great!

Also my collection is below, working on the second coming (aka cleaning out the shelves for my rotating taste records):

  6. I agree with most everything @mikeburns said, solid advice. If you do decide to get a pre-amp sooner rather than later, consider the Parks Audi Budgie which in my humble opinion sounds fantastic and the tubes allow you to upgrade the sound by rolling (if you're into that whole other hobby). Plus it comes in at $400 so it may be a bit easier on your wallet - support is killer if you need help figuring out the best load settings, etc. for your setup.

Idealism did an AMA on the Chillhop subreddit this weekend.  He mentioned there being an EP combo album of his that is the Rainy Evening EP and the Hiraeth EP combined.  If anyone is interested, it's on Vinyl-Digital.

Snagged a copy of this from Discogs (for whatever reason VinylDigital said it was "not buyable") - great recommendation, really nice lo-fi.
