  1. My hatred of all things Thrice comes from the first time I heard about Thrice. An, at the time, new coworker and I were talking about music he was into and it lead to one of my all time favorite conversations. After telling me his favorite band was Thrice, I asked him what kind of music they were. His response was "Hmmph...Thrice is EMO", followed by eyeroll. The he goes on to to explain emo in the most emo way ever. "Do you know what emo stands for? It stands for EEEEMOTTIONN, and that is what I like...emotions." I responded with simply "neat". I've never had to try so hard to not laugh in someones face. Over the years I've found out that 2 other coworkers a big Thrice fans and are just wierd about their Thrice fanaticism. It's to the point where I wonder if Thrice is a cult. Does Thrice require weekly tithing? To be a fan do you have to pledge your life to the devotion of Dustin Kensrue? Do all fans pray at the alter of the omnipotent, omnipresent, omniscient Thrice? Do all fans say a daily prayer for today being the day that Thrice Beggars on clear vinyl comes into their lives? ( ) So the reality of my Thrice "hatred" is that past experiences have made me only be able to see them as a joke. A few of the songs are pretty good, most I very much dislike though.
  2. They were who I said weren't selling them until Tuesday because they don't know how to read te sheets that come with their shipment. I get along well with one of the employee's there if I manage to get over there in the next day or two I'll see if I can't convince her to check the shipment note. No promises though, I hate Thrice so I don't plan on making the trip for myself.
  3. Fox Valley Mall didn't have any when I just stopped in, sorry.
  4. I'll check my local HT tomorrow for this if they have 1 I'll pick it up for someone here.
  5. I've ordered from them multiple times but have never ended up getting a record from them. It's actually not an insult to them, it's the backordered items that always give me time to debate the purchase and start removing a record here and there until there is nothing left. If I can't immediately purchase something then I think it over to no end til I find a reason not to buy anything. On topic though Interpunk.com is all my brother orders from. He likes it but often has issues with records being in less than pristine shape.
  6. I like it, but honestly her other two music videos are much more to my liking. Settle Down and Good Intent i think are the names. I'd pick up the record if it were cheap enough but importing it is crazy expensive. Perhaps the US release will have it on vinyl. 5 years ago I would just thumb my nose at it and say it's garbage.
  7. I now feel lucky my records weren't in worse condition when I got them. Initially I was slightly disappointed that my 10 records came with all of them having crushed corners. I now see I was lucky. My first time dealing with this label and am not foolishly in love with any of the bands so looks like I won't have to worry about. Overall slow shipping, took 21 days. Overpriced shipping paid 14.90, and actual cost was a little under 6. Less than stellar communication. Less than stellar packing. Worth the 5.45 an album I spent but glad this isn't a label I need to order from frequently. (yes, yes I'm complaining about cheap records)
  8. Bidding on the D4 record, awesome way to get an amazing record and help a great cause.
  9. Just got my Chicago tickets 10 minutes ago. Stupidly excited, this is definitely one of the bands that was a dream must see. First time I've ordered tickets online, ticketfly I hate you. a $30 ticket with a $11 service fee. Meh don't overly care just surprised the service fee was 1/3 the cost of the ticket.
  10. It's been 17 days for me now with no package. Last thing I heard the order was completed and that was on the 12th.
  11. I know someone in here brought up Independent Record Stores doing limited run pressings, but it would be to costly. I can't find the post again or I would link it. This is something that me and some friends have been talking about for a while. I understand fully that it isn't doable for independent record stores to do this online. However, I've been wondering if it would be doable for Independent Record Stores to come together and form a large format collective of independent record stores. By pooling resources it would allow them the ability to create Independent Store only release's that would hopefully work to keep foot traffic up. Logistically it might be nightmare to deal with but it's something that in theory has been floating around in my head. Ideally it could work in a similar, yet more market tailored way, as Local Chambers of Commerce. Again it may not be doable in reality but I was curious what others thought of the theory of this? I'm heading out to work now but when I get home I hope to see what you all have to say. I think the upside would be tremendous for local independently owned record stores.
  12. I love a good game of chance. Musical version of the Woot Bag of Crap?
  13. While I don't want to sit here I defend Hot Topic or other mega chains, nor do I want to rehash what I said earlier, I do have to respond to this. It's seriously unbelievable to me that in 2012 there are still people into "punk" that think it's awesome to have the mentality that if your not like me and do what I do or shop where I shop, then your not as "punk" as me. Punk rock should not be a hierarchical society, where sitting at the bottom is your evil Hot Topic shoppers and at the pinnacle is your Vegan, exclusive bicycle riding, anarchist tattooed, atheist, with purple mohawks. Punk rock should be all inclusive, not exclusive. The only litmus test that should be to prove punk rock is if an individual has an open mind.
  14. Gotta say you that's insanely nice of you. It's nice to see someone like you who seems to just love records and want to share that with others. Don't worry I'm not trying to kiss you ass to get the test press, there are others on here that would appreciate it exponentially more than I. I did just want to take 2 minutes and say thanks for being a benefit to the hobby.
  15. This topic has also made me look up the average wages for Hot Topic Sales Associates and the wages are Wal Mart-ian. I've been buying a few records there lately, maybe 1-3 a month, so I should take the time to see how they pay there employees. Glassdoor has average wage of Sales Associates at $7.48 and $8.11 for Key Holders. http://www.glassdoor.com/Salary/Hot-Topic-Salaries-E5499.htm Hot Topic FAQ has the starting wage as "generally starting at minimum". (The benefits are pretty sexy though) http://community.hottopic.com/content/store-faqs
  16. I live my life with a foolish amount rules. My rules for purchasing records follows this guide. I try to buy my records from local independently owned record stores. (Exclusive Company is the only one within daily travel distance for me. I miss the short lived Ear Wax in Appleton WI) Buying from local independently owned stores keeps the majority of your money in your area. If local independently owned stores don't carry what you wanted or aren't cost competitive then move on to local chain stores. Best Buy, Hot Topic etc. Again it's keeping local people employed and keeping money in your local economy. If nothing local is viable then move onto ordering from band website, record stores online shops and distro's. Finally order online from a mega chain if the price is to good to pass up. By me the local record store has a decent selection but the prices are sometimes abysmal. For example they had one of Propagandhi's records for 15.99. I could order the same record for about $11.50 shipped. However John Samson's solo record was $ 2 more then I could get online shipped. I've spent the last few years be a musical hermit but now that I've got some extra disposable income I try to buy at least 1 record a week from the local independently owned store. Just my individual opinion on this topic. I don't mean to try and impose my beliefs on other, just adding my opinion to the discussion. For me keeping money local is one of the biggest determining factors in making my purchases.
  17. No Idea - Crazy fast shipment, amazingly great prices. (Threw in a free CD O pioneers Neon Creeps CD) IVWT - Same thing, fast shipment, with amazing prices. (Thew in a free Breton CD) Vinyl Junkie Distro - Fast shipping, great used selection. Armegeddon Records - Price all over the board some great some mediocre but has some random gems. Ok shipping time. Headline Records - Great transaction. Fast shipping, great communication. Used selection is pretty dang awesome. Some things not the cheapest but also those are the things that are hard to find. Actually found my "white whale" record here for crazy cheap. (Threw in a free 7") Hex Records - Another great transaction. Super cheap shipping but impressively fast. Paper + Plastic - tbd
  18. Just completed a transaction with Tattoo Mike. Great, easy, hassle-free transaction. Thanks much!
  19. The Avail test is putting dirty thoughts in my head. I kind of want the Totalitar too. I hate this thread, at some point my will point is going to waver.
  20. I've got a few minutes to just throw my thought in on this issue. I am relatively new here. I've known about the site for years and over the years have read a thread here and there when googling around. Over the last month I've spend a foolish amount of time around these boards because I've got the money and time now to spend on music. Over the last month or so this site has saved me a ton of money on records with the deals threads. Without those I never would have ran across the deals at amazon, accoustic sounds or best buy.com. Also the site has introduced me to a handful of new distros, Invinylwetrust.com and vinyljunkiedistro both of whom I've placed orders with over the past month. Along with that this site has introduced me to some new music my lazy ass never would have heard. In my, albeit limited time here, I honestly didn't even know that Shopradiocast was controlling the boards here. I did see the banner at the top and just thought it was standard advertising. Up until this recent fiasco I think it is impressive the a SRC was so cool with all the threads for cheap records everywhere. To be honest I can't think of anytime me being here that SRC was posting about there promotions or sales. I may strategically blind in that matter. So all I am trying to say is that this board has provided me with a ton of value in a short amount of time. The drama ensuing is humorous to say the least. SRC seems to be acting peculiarly to say the least. But if SRC was my business I know I wouldn't want to own and operate a message board where competitors of mine advertise their companies. I know there is more "history" on these boards but nonetheless a for profit enterprise is running a message board that is endlessly being used to advertise competitors. Perhaps ideally the board would be better off being controlled by an independent enterprise, but it isn't. It is ran by SRC who can more or less do what they want. If people want to try and move the community they can. It may split and take a long time to rebuild but that might be most ideal in the long term. I'm not trying to SRC, in fact banning 1 distro seems odd, very odd. I would understand more if they banned all competitor "advertisemtent". By banning just IVWT it just seems odd. tl:dr - Everyone is wrong, about everything. And I hate you.
