  1. Anyone from South Wales should check out Head in Cardiff, just opened and 20% off at the moment.
  2. This is kind of related: I wish I could remember where I read this, but I remember seeing some article or interview about early players in "post-metal" were trying to get the genre referred to as "steel" - so it went from "rock", then "metal" then "steel". I'm glad that never happened because what a stupid name
  3. Never really got into the Clash but the only good riff on Never Mind The Bollocks is the opening of Bodies.
  4. Like I said, it really just fit neatly into where I was at the time. It's not something I would really listen to now, though I still really love Svefn G Englar (spelling?). I remember going home and setting my download client to download that song and it took all night. At the time I think it was the longest song I'd ever heard. I never listened to any other Sigur Ros stuff, apart from ( ) a couple of times.
  5. No, I totally am. The best track of Vol. 4 is Wheels of Confusion for me. Shame about FX though, we coulda had another minute and a half of the intro to Supernaut. I wrote a Top 100 when I was on holiday aged about 18. It's mostly still accurate, maybe about 20 changes. I always thought ten is a pretty good challenge, you have to really consider what you're putting on the list. Plus it's a great question to ask people. In my experience people have a pretty good picture of whats in their top ten already, certainly their top 5. Do you really wanna listen to someone at a party have to think about their Top 25? Although on here so many people are putting "honourable mentions"... kinda defeats the point.
  6. I'm not a huge fan of post rock, but there are a couple of albums in the genre that I really love. I saw Sigur Ros support Radiohead on the Kid A tour in 2000 and a couple of months later I bought Agaetis Byrjun and loved it. It definitely did the trick for my state of mind at the time. I don't really like that album now but it did open some doors. I somehow got from that to finding out about Mogwai and then in about 2004 I bought Happy Songs for Happy People and figured out that that album was all I really needed from the genre. After that I started listening to Earth 2 a lot.
  7. I think Vol. 4 is an overall stronger album than Master, even with Changes
  8. Thanks to Death Waltz and 4 Men With Beards for making this expensive dream a cheap reality
  9. Hendrix/Band of Gypsys - Band of Gypsys NIN - The Downward Spiral PJ Harvey - Stories from the City.... Harvey Milk - Courtesy and Good Will Toward Men Diamanda Galas - The Divine Punishment Charles Mingus - The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady Sleater-Kinney - One Beat Beth Orton - Comfort of Strangers Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - No More Shall We Part Can - Tago Mago
  10. guys, should I buy three or four copies of the new limited die-hard edition abridged 2-song Mulan soundtrack on transparent purple 8-track? it's only $80 for two!

  11. you talking about the hobby in general? agree though, this is pretty daft
  12. Damn, RIP. Isn't that everyone who played on Fun House dead now? Apart from Iggy.
  13. About halfway thru John Dies at the End. It's definitely a page turner but I don't love the writing style. Also, I wish the author wouldn't use the word "retarded" so much. I'll probably finish it soon but not sure I'll rush to the sequel. re: r/nosleep, I've read some great stuff on there, but it's also easy to read some really shitty stories too. I used to listen to the No Sleep Podcoast but that can sometimes just be too hammy.
  14. "stop buying used records, eventually everything gets reissued with a better mastering and artwork anyway"

Except for the used records in my FS, those will never be repressed, sound great, and have the best art you'll ever see.

I hope finally one day we see the back of the pesky 1970 Vertigo presses, hurry up with unnecessary 2xLP 180gm remastered from digital master reissues!

  15. Yeah it was the sequel that reminded me to get it! I was initially recommended it after reading House of Leaves and The Raw Shark Texts. Is it similar to those?
  16. Nice list! How much for shipping in UK? Sorry, looking at this in work and missed the first bit of the post.
  17. falling behind on my personal reading challenge for 2015 - set myself a goal of 60 books and currently on 39. Originally I wanted to read 40 books but in springtime I started reading a few comics so I moved the goal to a higher number. been reading a lot of those Penguin Little Black Classics, 80 pence each. I've read the ones by Wilfred Owen, Catallus, Pu Songling, Suetonius, and still have Nietzsche, Christina Rossetti and a few others to go. Mostly ive been reading non fiction but want a good novel to read on holiday. Has anyone read John Dies at the End? I don't know if I'll love it or hate it. Might start it this weekend.
  18. I've only heard bad things about 4MWB but I have the Anne Briggs s/t from them and it sounds fine to me.
