  1. Yeah well we all listened to at least some shitty bands back then, but have they even been around that long for it to be considered nostalgic to listen to them? haha, yep. I know there is a lot of interest for other bands that were big at around the same time. Didn't Alien Ant Farm, Hoobastank and POD do some big tour recently? I'd rather staple my eyes shut and pour acid into my ears
  2. yeah but people like different things don't they? for example, there are still some people who like Blink 182 despite not being 15 any more. incredible right?
  3. I wouldn't bother with a reading guide for HoL. It is by its very nature labyrinthine. Just read it as you would a normal book and go as deep or as shallow as you want to with it.
  4. Despite not being a big fan of King's, I love The Shining. Probably more to do with the film that the novel, though. I was pretty excited when Doctor Sleep was released and I read it pretty quickly but I ended up just not really enjoying it very much. Spoiler for anyone who hasn't read it yet:
  5. Any recs for anything similar? How about Aziz Ansari's book?
  6. Yeah, I was pleasantly surprised, I don't normally go in for actor's biographies. I'll probably get his new one as well.
  7. Didn't quite hit my target of books read last year, so trying again for 2016. Read two books this year, Minor Characters by Joyce Johnson, a memoir of the 1950s around the major players of the beat generation, and another book about my home town that's not worth describing here! Currently reading Paddle Your Own Canoe, Nick Offerman's first book. Really enjoying it, he's a great writer.
  8. Great list. Didn't know about some of these. Of course it's unpopular here - no wusspunk records included.
  9. It's depressing that I'll never be able to see them but I am glad that they're not touring like Sabbath are. I love Sabbath and being able to see Sabbath 1970-1976 live must have been amazing, but seeing them now just can't be any good. I really like how Zep did the huge Ertegun tribute and left it at that.
  10. Tom Waits. Everytime he's been in the UK it's fallen on a bad date for me, I've usually been away or too broke to afford it. Got so close to seeing Led Zeppelin at the London gig they did back in 2007 or 08 or whenever. IIRC the ticket system was a lottery - you had to sign up for interest and people were randomly selected when tickets were available. Me and a friend called on all our friends, family, housemates etc to sign up on our behalf, on the understanding that if they were selected, we'd take the tickets. Turns out a friend of my friend was selected, and when the tickets were offered, he thought, "'y'know, I think I will take these tickets for myself". I don't blame him, cos when do you ever get to see Zep live? But he wouldn't even have signed up to the ticket lottery if we hadn't told him about it! Dang. Either way, my friend rang me when they came on stage, so I did get to hear Good Times, Bad Times live... kind of.... through a phone.

  12. Phew. Thank god you are here to instruct people who have incorrect top ten lists. Heaven forbid that someone possibly under twenty have a list of their ten favourite albums!
  13. IKEA used to do these red/black plastic inserts for the Expedit shelves, like huge cube drawers. I used these last time I moved. They were kind of hefty but it felt like the records were protected more than just using cardboard.
  14. most issues to do with your stereo set up can be solved by simply listening to better music

  15. Surprised at all the hate for Pink Floyd. Actually wait, no. I'm not surprised.
  16. I'd posit that Theory of a Dead Man are worse than Creed
