damaged
So I bought a 5" vinyl. Put it on the turntable but I can't listen to it cause it's so small the tone arm automatically picks up and returns to the side. I've got an old turntable & a new one and they both do the same thing. Anyone else had this problem? Is there a way around this?
von
Deathcycle holy mountin split is like this...The singer of deathcycle said he actually got it work with an automatic arm after like a half hour of screwing with it when I asked about it. monstercody
Manual turntables gentlemen, manual turntables. They are also essential for reverse groove records ie. Pulling Teeth - Witches Sabbath.

adamlikesmusic
They work fine on my parents turntable, but mine, not so much. (Granted theirs was quite expensive, and mine was pretty damn cheap)

damaged
Thanks guys, a manual table seems like the way to go.
thomas
5"s played fine on my old automatic table, if I put the arm above the record before turning it on like someone else suggested.

Yeah tried that - but the arm picks up after a second.
shauncitrus
What i recommend is... put the speed on 33 (regardless of what speed the record is, then start moving the arm very slowly across towards the record. This is the method i use, it's like you're fooling your turntable into thinking you're playing a normal record. I have problems with the Pulling Teeth records as well as 5" records but with a bit of patience it always works.

ericxthexred
best course of action... get a new MANUAL (pref direct drive) turn table. time to step up to the big leagues kiddies
mxv
Yeah manual is the way to go, however if you have automatic, look in yr manual because some of the better ones have a way to adjust when it returns. usually it's a little screw or knob somehwere on the turntable, (could be located under the platter).
