xforlifex
I know some of the pressing companys back in the day used SUPER thin vinyl so the black vinyl looks transparent, but in all reality it is just super thin and cheap. This was very common during the vinyl glut days of the early to mid 90's.
burntwolf
quiex vinyl from the early 80s, which was supposed to be superior sounding, looks black but when held up to light can be different colors, like brown or purple. i had some R.E.M. records like that. I'm glad I'm not the only one that remembers that. It was actually a sign of superior vinyl years ago

gutterpunk79
My copy is like that as well. I actually sold earlier this summer a Misfits - Die Die My Darling 1st press for $200 because it was translucent (usually doesn't go for all that much, $15-$20) . The 3rd press of that record is known for being translucent, but not the 1st press (only a few are known to be). I got it for $5 from my local store 4-5 years ago, didn't noticed it was translucent up until I saw one on Ebay and the big $$$ attached to it. I finally sold it this year because I was trying to raise some money for a white whale of mine: An original PMRC can Suck on this by NOFX...so for me it was worth selling it!
