scottheisel
Yeah, media mail is pretty much the only downside to No Idea -- shit takes FOREVER to get out of those goddamn swamps. I've been waiting on an order for two weeks.
athomewithkyle
Ahh. Should I go with media mail for VC? Or should I go with priority?
Guest scriptedrain
I get media mail pretty quick from VC. - Jeff
thomas
IIRC, media mail works by filling up a bin and they only ship what is in the bin out when it is full or after a certain numbers of days. So you can get media mail packages really fast, or really slow depending on that.

steventangent
I bought an LP from someone on here and it took forever. So long, he gave me the insurance claim number - that same day it arrived. So yeah, you just never know.
thischarmingham
media mail over the last month has been a nightmare. Taking up to and over a month to get to people on the same coast as I am even. I've been thinking of cutting it out all together because of all the trouble I've had.
robotnerd
i find media mail is generally not worth it. it's much much slower usually, and typically not much cheaper, i'm willing to pay a few extra bucks if need be to get it in 3-4 days instead of 3-4 weeks. roadmonkey
Why is there even a Media Mail option really. It's not like the post office is going to treat the package differently if it is media mail. Just take its sweet ass time getting the package to you.
Guest Admin
Media mail is a curse and a blessing. It allows us to offer really inexpensive shipping options to US customers, but it can sometimes take a while. Our being in Colorado and it being central to most areas helps to get our orders there quicker. Also, we use stamps.com and delivery confirmation so I think that helps the speed a bit. I can't believe that No Idea ships their mailorder without delivery confirmation and they hand write all of their packages. I think the fact that they are in the southeast corner of the United STates makes it have to travel that much further to us West Coasters. Overall, I think Media Mail is good, but there are those situations where packages take a while.
loren
yeah media mail is a good thing in my opinion ive never had too much of a problem with it...as long as theres delivery conformation
altarsofradness
waiting on media mail is horrible. that's all i got.
hickey
I don't hate media mail at all. Yeah, it takes a while, but that makes the records that much better when they're finally in my grubby hands. Plus, like Virgil said, it is so inexpensive. I wish places like interpunk offered media mail, I'd sacrifice the speed of delivery to not have to shell out insane amounts for shipping. ($6.50 for one LP, bleh!) The only beef i have with media is when I'm shipping something and people hassle me about it taking so long. sgoodcore
Can't really add much more about it than what Virgil said. Running a label Media Mail is a god-send. Especially since it pretty much stayed the same and the rest of the postage for stuff went sky-high. In my experience with it, ordering stuff from No Idea (florida) and Deep Elm (south and north carolina) and me living in California, I've got my stuff in between 5-7 business days on average. Sometimes I've gotten it in like 2 from DE. My last No Idea order took closer to a week and a half or so.
