rtw88
Anybody read this yet? I heard his open letter to Larry the Cable Guy and I really want to get a hold of this book. I'm interested to see if he's as smug as he comes off as.
jercjast
I finished reading it the other day. He is a very angry man. Parts of it are funny, parts are weird fictional stories about his life, and a lot of parts is just him bitching about something. Strangely there isn't that much stuff about republicans or the government. It's mostly attacks on organized religion. I'm seeing him here in Dallas Friday. I hope he does more than just read parts of it since I'm already done with it.
One Hundred Fifty-Two
I would expect him to do a stand up routine not a book reading
desensitizedbyu
I thought maybe this was about a new CD or something, but a book is cool too! Gotta read this.
riddle350
I hadn't heard about this. I'm going to have to check it out
adammuzzy
the radio station i listen to on my way to school is always giving away free copies of this book. i hear so many good "caller number... wins..." contests, wish i had a damn cell phone. jercjast
Since this he is on a tour pretty much solely to promote this book, I bet he'll do something from it. I know someone in the local comedy scene here whose 9 year old child auditioned to open for him. Supposedly David wrote a bit that he needs a young kid to do. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I just saw him last week, its all standup. I don't know if any is from the book because I didnt get it/havent read it, but all he did was his standup routine, and it was hilarious. He actually didnt even mention he had a book for sale on stage, and him making fun of hecklers is so good. he might be one of the quickest comeback comedians i've seen. Probably because he has been getting made fun of his entire life.
rtw88
Well, if anyone has this and is done with it and wants to trade for records or cds or dvds or something, I'd be down.
jercjast
David was really in top form last night. One of the best comedy shows I've ever seen. Of course since it's TX OU weekend here the crowd was full of obnoxious assholes that kept screaming shit at him, but he was great at ridiculing them. Some wasted lady even called him Bob. He never mentioned the book, but 3 or 4 of the bits he did were straight from it. We waited around after the show to try to meet him and he was totally cool. He gave me and my friends beer and talked to us about Arrested Development and Mr. Show.
tanukichu
I really need to read this. David Cross is one of my favorites.
sharkticon
David Cross cracks me up. I wonder if the book exists in audiobook form, read by him. I'd listen to that. Also, best movie:

jercjast
Bob actually answered when David called and talked to the drunk lady. Bob said he hoped one day to participate in a 10k run to benefit her. There is an audio version of the book that they were selling, but I didn't have enough for it. David also said that they are filming the Boston show for a DVD.
patron
David Cross cracks me up. I wonder if the book exists in audiobook form, read by him. I'd listen to that. It most certainly does! I listened to it on my commute to/from my commute to school for about two weeks. The best part is that he makes fun of people who buy audiobooks rather than books quite a few times in it. raistlinn
I have actually just downloaded the audiobook, and it ís read by him. I'm pretty sure the open letter to Larry the Cableguy is part of the audiobook
jayeffscene
"Shut Up You Fucking Baby" could have been a classic single disc instead of a pretty good 2xCD. Still really funny.
rtw88
I love all of Shut Up You Fucking Baby. Comedy albums are probably my favorite things to listen to on super long drives.
axlrose
What's the open letter to "Larry the Cable Guy"? I assume it involves how his whole schtick is fabricated and unfunny but I thought I'd ask.

jercjast
http://www.bobanddavid.com/2007/10/an_open_letter_to_larry_the_ca.html There's the whole letter that is reprinted in the book. Most of David's section from that site appears at the end of his book after all the new stuff.

chunkrock
My girlfriend got me this book for my birthday, and I got her tickets to see him at the start of this month in Toronto. The show was really great I thought. The only thing that sucked was the show sold out so fast he added another one after that started at 10 so at one point the stage manager told him he only had like fifteen min. left and he made a comment about having more stuff to do that he didn't have time for. Kinda sucks but it was still well worth the money.
