chaps
Has it been done with exceptional results? Discuss.
xjustinxschwierx
yes it's been done. it can be done. it's just quieter. hell if you check Aarvark's website they've done 37 minutes.
monk0nuggets
Expect it to sound mediocre though.
scotterson
I have a few that sound good. Vheissu by Thrice has almost exactly 25 min/side and it sounds pretty good, but nothing fantastic. Challengers by The New Pornogrophers has 27 min on one side, and i think it sounds pretty great.
apeman
Elvis Costello - "Get Happy!!" in it's original form runs for around 24-25 minutes on each side. It was quite unusual for an lp at the time of release, and there's even a disclaimer on the back sleeve about the precautions taken against "groove cramming" (their expression) in the manufacturing process. sgoodcore
Expect it to sound mediocre though. I'm not sure that's a fair generalization. I think Justin is more on the ball, its just quieter.
iamafreeman
the US pressing of Stereolab's Emperor Tomato Ketchup has about 28 mins on each side. fidelity is pretty crappy. the UK double LP pressing is significantly better.
forgeagain
Shit, LOTS of 60s, 70s, etc. records are 25+. I don't think I've gone over 23 yet but if it was necessary I would do it. As long as it's not something with insanely heavy bass you should be ok. Try to put songs that are not as dynamic (read: acoustic, or quiet) towards the end of each side of the LP and that helps. Lots of classic rock records follow that formula. Just make sure you master it somewhere decent and you'll be fine. Also, you're probably putting out something relatively punk rock. It's not like you're putting out some $500,000 audiophile recording.

vardcore
I think a couple of the HWM records were 45-48 total, split between the two sides, of course. I don't like to go beyond 20, but have done it. 14 per side is probably the average. If you have a ton of loot, do a 2xLP. I have been on the fence and have gone 1xLP every time. Usually a song gets dropped before a 2xLP happens. Most people don't like to flip records extra times... or like paying the extra $5+ the second record costs. That said, if my favorite LONG record was available as a 2xLP... I'd seek it out. Speaking of which, the only record I ever pressed as both a 1xLP and as a 2xLP never got much in the way of a fidelity response from random humans. Probably because it was horrendous, blown out noise either way. Fabulous, of course, but all the same...
