jurrobear
I really dig the montage at the beginning of Watchmen. Yea, that intro is just awesome.
burdenx
Without putting a lot of thought into it, A New Hope/Empire Strikes Back and Up (though the rest of the movie wasn't so great).
cactusbot
I came in here to post Se7en for my favorite opening for a movie but Flicker beat me too it.

forgeagain
Some notes, the Dexter opening is brilliant. Without evening knowing what the show is about it sets you at unease for some reason. The opening for The Way of the Gun is too good for that movie. The first 15 minutes are pure gold and then the movie takes an epic shit dive. Venture Brothers is good because it's a great parody type opening. I also love Mad Men. It's very good for the nature of the show. The ones I find I can't tend to watch at all are the 90's sitcom openings (Friends, Sienfeld etc.). They just seem so painfully dated...well, friends sucked in general. I was with you on this until the Seinfeld thing. Last I checked, Seinfeld had no intro/title sequence. Just credits over the standup in early seasons. Then over the actual show in later ones. But yeah, the Way of the Gun is awful but the intro is fantastic. Regardless, I think this thread is about title sequences, not opening scenes.
casey
Thread title says "Best Opening". That could be a title sequence or the first ten or so minutes. Pretty open to interpretation.
Guest adam526
All the old Nickelodeon cartoon intros were amazing. Particularly the Rugrat's one.

Sitting there listening to mediocre 90's stand up about traffic and women shopping over some synthesized baseline is unbearable. I almost feel like those sequences were put in to show how is every day life was much funnier than his stand up.
