konk
Looks like we're going, mainly for the Fat showcase. Lots of options for Friday night, but not sure about Saturday during the day. Not really feeling the AP showcase. Any suggestions?
controlthebleeding
What day/time on those shows, dude? Torche is on Thurs night at Beerland (holds like 100 people), and Minus the Bear is on Saturday night at Mellow Johnny's Bike shop (nueces i think) at around 8pm. Not sure when they go on though. that's just when it starts. not to mention the various Andrew W.K appearances just about everyday.. You have to RSVP to most of them though. So get crackin' http://showlistaustin.com/
controlthebleeding
Looks like we're going, mainly for the Fat showcase. Lots of options for Friday night, but not sure about Saturday during the day. Not really feeling the AP showcase. Any suggestions? Friday: off with their heads / Cobra Skulls / Ghost Knife/The Mog Party There are tons of stuff going on during the day on saturday: The Suburban Home thing at FRIENDS OF SOUND record shop. I'm only going to see Micah Play after breakfast. THen Two Cow Garage of course around 5ish. Look Mexico is playing too around noon. Roky Erickson w/ Okkervil River (4:55pm), Andrew WK (4:15pm), Voivod (3:15pm), Holy Fuck (2:30pm), Think About Life (1:45pm), The Besnard Lakes (1pm), Wye Oak (noon) at Galaxy Room (508 E. 6th St.) [main stage, free The Black Keys, Demolished Thoughts (Thurston Moore, J Mascis, Andrew WK), The Antlers, Real Estate, Rye Rye, Freelance Whales, Dum Dum Girls, Free Energy, Shilpa Ray & her Happy Hookers, Javelin at the Mohawk [a] [m] [noon-6pm, free] etc at the PARLOR pizza place in hyde park Ben Gibbard, Wye Oak, The Morning Benders at the Parish [a] [m] [starts at 1pm, 21+, RSVPs will open March 8 here] not to mention the daily vice parties that you have to rsvp too... this texas shot list for austin will most likely double by the time it comes around.. it's a pretty pathetically large list. probably about 20 pages a day if you print them out. but you can pick and chose and print a list as well. These are the bands i recommend (that most likely no one will go see) Hatred Surge / Endless Blockade - Headhunters 20 buck spin showcase (holy shit this is going to be awesome) Superchunk - La Zona Rosa and one other undisclosed club) Torche (beerland / emos / other various places) Magrudergrind (tues at trailer space records) keg gets tapped at 4 on the 16th The Hex Dispensers (various shows) Riverboat Gamblers (copious amounts of clubs and at waterloo records) - I really hope they don't trash the place again Minus the Bear - (when will you say you saw them play at a bike shop) oh and there is also the MESS WITH TEXAS 2 day fest at a location near downtown. I'm thinking east 6th street. It's 2 days this year and will be going on from 12 - 7pm both days if its like last year. Tons of good bands. about 2 or 3 stages. Torche will probably play this as they are friends with Graham. Should be fun. Birdwell: are you coming or not? Scott: when are we going to get a burger or something to eat. you avoid me every year because you think you're better than me because you work for AP or BMG or Columbia House or whatever. Konk: if you need any more info i have tons of other shows going on that arent listed in the show list or on sxsw. Geez, this is gonna be a hellish year. too many bands, and i don't know who to see. Ugh. Everyone should see HATRED SURGE and ENDLESS blockade if you like powervoilence/punk shit. No not that FAT/NEW PSEUDO punk stuff. Also everyone should eat a CASINO EL CAMINO BUFFALO BURGER while in town. sure you might have to wait a hour but it's worth it. Ask Birdwell
suburbanargyle
I second seeing Hex Dispensers and Riverboat Gamblers. Both put on great shows. Also, what is Demolished Thoughts? Because that band lineup sounds amazing. I'm planning on going to the Trouble In Mind showcase on friday at Longbranch Inn, and probably that Off With Their Heads show that night (The Anchor is also playing it): Trouble In Mind 12:15 - CoCoComa 1:00 - Tyler Jon Tyler 1:45 - Hollows 2:00 - Fresh & Onlys 2:45 - Charlie & the Moonhearts 3:30 - Ty Segall 4:15 - White Wires 5:00 - Hex Dispensers Then saturday my friends bands from Baltimore (Thee Lexington Arrows and Young Jaguars) are playing with The Safes at some showcase, should be cool. And that Mess With Texas party looks pretty good again. Hopefully I'll get to see King Khan & The Shrines and The Thermals, among a few others. konk
The Suburban Home thing sounds interesting. Is Friends of Sound new? These are the options for Friday night: Shellshag @ House of Commons She & Him @ Lustre Pearl Pains of Being Pure at Heart @ Mohawk Lucero @ Red Eyed Fly Minus The Bear @ Rusty Spurs OWTH @ The Parlor Octopus Project @ Whole Foods Weatherbox @ Trailer Space OWTH is first on my list, but I wanna open myself up a little. The wife's gonna wanna see Octopus Project. Probably won't be able to get into the official showcases, especially Pains which I think I wanna see the most. pjaicomo
I know absolutely nothing about SXSW procedures, but I am on spring break. Would it be worth showing up in Austin without tickets?

scottheisel
Anyone looking for any of the set times for the AP party on Saturday? We're not going to post them publicly before the day of, but I can tell you specific bands via PM if you're trying to map out your day. Here's the list of who's playing: The Cab Circa Survive Conditions Cymbals Eat Guitars Every Avenue Hey Monday Honor Bright La Dispute Lights Never Shout Never The Rocket Summer (acoustic) Ruiner Stereo Skyline Sum 41 The Summer Set Terrible Things There For Tomorrow Title Fight Zlam Dunk
melikecheese
Yup Yup, I thought I was getting there early last year and the line was already enormous Yeah, it's kinda ridiculous. This year, we're trying to get that dude from Jersey Shore to be a guest DJ. How amazing would that be? Op top of the crappy bands, it would be the most awesome worst party ever. controlthebleeding
I'm still claiming people should see TORCHE at Beerland! FTW!!! or ENDLESS BLOCKADE at one of many places during the music fest. Thanks to my awesome friend, I have a hotel to stay at, so i can stay late now.. whoo hoo! laurenxvx
This is Saturday night if anyone wants to go RZL DZL is on this show as well. It's $10. Also: and more touring hc bands hopefully. will death before dishonor still be in town? working on defeater, title fight, broadway calls and othersline up is tentative for the next couple days. (Except Defeater is now confirmed and I believe Title Fight will most likely be confirmed too.) Have fun guys!
scottheisel
ANDREW WK WAS INCREDIBLE TONIGHT. Mariachi El Bronx were great, too, as were Broadway Calls. Japanther were terrible as usual. I harbor a strong dislike for that band.
