do you dream in color?

Recommended Posts

i heard somewhere that most people dream in black and white. usually i don't remember my dreams at night (if i take a nap during the day i usually remember what i dreamt about) but lately i've been remembering them and they have all been in color. sometimes the colors play a large part in the dream, and other times i'll just remember when i wake up "hey, that tree was for sure green and there were red apples in it" or something minor like that.

anyway, just curious about everybody here...

usually in color. my sister and i make it a point to tell each other about weird dreams we have asap. like most people, (i think; from what i've gathered) i can remember things vividly and in detail when i wake up, but as time passes and i go to talk about it later in the day, i get frustrated because i can't remember what it was about. even though i KNOW i know what it was about.

like what kind of stuff? what do you mean by impressions?

The nature of the dream itself or specific instances therein. Emotional impressions, if you will. Sometimes, I can recall vague impressions of the environment I was in, but that is all. I never have any detail.

I could have had a sex dream about you last night and would never know it. In the morning, all I'd have is a positive impression and likely an erection.

Nearly always in color.

I have also read that a large number of people dream in black and white, but I believe it's typically older people who grew up with all of their media being in black and white.

this is a really interesting theory (especially considering the results of this poll so far), but don't you think that people consumed WAY less media back then so it wouldn't seep into their subconscious as much as it does with our generation? when TV was black and white only, people didn't spend as much time in front of one. they were outside doing things, or reading books, or whatever. that's a really interesting thought, though. i wonder how this would break down between age groups.

I doubt this. Life has always been in color and it is far more prevalent, and presumably of greater influence than the few hours spent in front of the telly. Are we positing that dreams are the visual media equivalent of the brain and that solely television is the influencing factor? I doubt this as well.

If age groups are a factor, I suspect it is for different reasons entirely.

i dream in color and about weird stuff.

Like getting in a fight with the kool-aid man over the last burrito in town, and when i go to the trial Arsenio Hall from coming to america is my lawyer, and Gandhi is my judge but is wearing sunglasses and a top hat like Slash from Guns N' Roses.

then his face melts.

it seems like a lot of the time, i might be somewhere, like for example, my house, and while i actively know that it's not what my house looks like at all, in the dream i also accept that it's totally normal and that this is now my house. what a weird feeling.

also, i seem to often dream about acquaintances i knew from high school or college, or people i haven't talked to in years and years, and suddenly, we're best friends in the dream.

Do you throw the kool-aid guy through a wall and yell "ohhh yeaarrrhh"?

I rarely remember any dreams, but a small percentage of the ones I remember are actually in color. But at the same time most of the ones I remember always seem to take place at night or in the dark, so it could just be the lack of color. Who knows...

Whenever I see your handle, I read it as "bigmandy" and picture some grotesquely fat bbw porn model eating doughnuts dipped in crisco.

I rarely remember (or maybe even have) a dream, but when I dream, I remember split second scenes for days. They're almost always in some sort of color... it's not always vivid, realistic color, but there's at least a color or two filling the majority of the dream, kind of like putting those plastic colored film pieces over stage lights or something. But often there's a lot more color than that.

I have similar scenes that happen over and over. I remember when I was about 8, there was a scene of me in a little row boat in the middle of the ocean that I would have all the time. I have a couple of dreams that pop up every few months or so. Actually, the only one I can think of now that has no color is a couple people in me breaking into this prison to break someone else out, but it has a lot of sewer-type locations, elevator shafts, and tons of guards / lights / barbed wire / spotlights / dogs / etc and I never finish the scene. It gets really chaotic, I start to lose my mind, then I wake up. I hate that dream. A lot.

After I saw Inception, I had two nights of Inception-like dreams with my own life mixed in. That's how I knew I really did love the movie.

A lot of the time I have dreams about stupid, mundane things, then I wake up and I'm not sure if that actually happened or not. More times than I'd like, I get caught referring to my dreams as if they happened and people are like, "uh... what? I don't remember that happening." Then I go, "shit! nevermind..."
