Thrice55
I do realize there is a thread dedicated to gaming, I just feel like this is growing closer and would love a dedicated thread. I think this game will be the most epic piece of gaming ever put together for a few reasons... 1. Valve and Gabe Newell are single handily responsible for almost every groundbreaking thing that has ever happened in the gaming world. 2. It's already been 6 years since we first saw Episode 2 come out, meaning they've either been waiting for this jump in technology or they've been waiting for The Steam Machine to launch. 3. Newell has already come out and said they plan to expand the already incredibly emotional pallet that's been laid by the first installments all the while also going back to filling it with survival horror elements. 4. The fact we haven't seen any actual screenshots or confirmed concept art in the last 5 years tells me they're truly waiting for technology to catch up so they can make all of their ideas actually happen. 5. I have an inkling that we will see the Portal Gun making a huge impact on this game, with perhaps Portal 3 being included with it or launch simultaneously. First off, could you imagine having the Portal Gun at your disposal for combat and not just training scenarios?! I would have way to much fun making people fall to their deaths. Secondly, could you imagine having a multiplayer gameplay mode where Portal Guns were also incorporated? Holy balls... So I hope I'm not the only one here that is this excited about something that's not even really on the horizon yet...

slinch
Whenever I see mention of anything new regarding HL, my heart stops. Then I'm always disappointed. Thanks for doing this to me...

The Saint
Yeah, I came in here thinking an announcement had been made Regardless, the team at Valve are masterminds and I'm looking forward to this whenever it does come. Sigh…one day...

circuit bored records
I love half life, I wish they would just make the third game instead of another episode, regardless of tech advancements and everything
thoughtsky
I'm pretty sure there won't be an episode 3..! The long time between now and episode 2 makes a whole new half life 3 more reasonable! Although I can't wait for this! As well as for portal 3. Valve just knows how to deliver. rtw88
I'm inclined to believe it will never see the light of day. It's been such a hyped event for years that short of revealing the meaning of life or putting the player directly in contact with God, it would disappoint. Plus games with long gestation periods generally run into technical and other issues, i.e. Diablo III and Duke Nukem. I also feel like Valve is a company that has made it a point to constantly push forward as opposed to backpedal simply to appease people. Valve has also been a group that finishes a story, I don't see them abandoning the brilliance they set us up for. So I have no doubt that episode 3 will see the light of day. However, would I be pissed off if they just jumped to a full fledge 3 that was episode 3 with an additional storyline thrown in? Absolutely not... valve
Valve will follow through. They are just such perfectionists that they probably want the new engine to be perfect. Also like Blizzard they like their games to work on varying levels of hardware (I can run Episode 2 on a very old laptop at medium settings. And it will run Portal 2 at the lowest settings, but not at an enjoyable frame rate), from old to current entry level.

slinch
When the page was counting down to the three announcements (which ended up being steam os/box/controller), it was the first time that I had a genuine, albeit very faint, feeling that this could be it, that this would be the announcement of the big #3. kidamnesiac
I would like to see Valve announce that Half-Life 3 is coming in "late 2014" and then immediately release HL2: Episode 3 as a teaser. Royce
kevinxabney
Valve developed an entire operating system before Half Life 3.
