  1. Colossal's stunning debut EP, informally known as "Brave the Elements" is just as powerful and impressive as the day it was released. Featuring incredibly tight, masterful instrumentation with soulful vocals that combine in a unique package that no other band could hope to replicate. Whether you've been waiting for this for years or you've never heard it before, you are in for a treat. Co-release with Topshelf, with each label carrying an exclusive color. Each order comes with a digital download. 2. Anybody who has clicked into this thread has probably heard one or both of these bands by now so I won't bother with a lengthy description of what they sound like. We did a split LP for the two bands. STNNNG broke up while it was in production, so it features their final recordings (done just before the LP that came out earlier this year). CB recorded their songs (with Wes fuckin' Borland) before their lineup change this summer. So in many ways this is a swan song for both bands (though CB will chug along with new members). First (and probably only) pressing limited to 533 copies (241 clear w/black, 241 purple w/blue, 51 Wax Mage purple/blue nebula) and features a multi-color silkscreened A-side with art from Shawn Knight. Above picture is the "digital" cover - I think it's just a part of the screen art. Once they get screened next weekend, I'll post those pics too. Pre-orders will start shipping November 13. You should also check out our other two releases from 2017 - full length LPs from SALVATION and ENGINES. https://forgeagainrecords.bandcamp.com/album/stnnng-child-bite

  4. I figured I'd start a thread on here for my label/distro HIP KID RECORDS. Check the most recent post for the most up-to-date news and distro updates. For more information and updates, check out http://hipkidrecords.blogspot.com The distro and web store is at http://hipkidrecords.storenvy.com
  5. I am putting out a new record by the band SALVATION from Chicago. It is very good. The record turned out very cool. The pre-order is open now and it'll ship in a couple weeks. One random order will get a TEST PRESSING included as a bonus (cut-off for that is next Friday, February 10th at midnight CST). Get on it! SALVATION - Sore Loser LP Blending together elements of noise rock, punk, and grunge, Chicago’s SALVATION has cultivated a rare sound that is injected with strikingly inventive vocals and instrumentation. With their 2017 Forge Again Records nine-song debut LP Sore Loser, SALVATION further refines the sound found on their 2015 Cold Slither Tapes release Royal Fucks. Like their previous effort, Sore Loser was recorded completely live, showcasing the band’s raw fervor and painstaking attention to performance perfection and detail. The vocals are raw and commanding, seeming to simultaneously invoke both aggression and agony. The rhythm section remains the strong, sludgy backbone of the album, driving each song forward as the vocals ebb, flow, and meander throughout. Sore Loser was recorded by Joe Gac at Kildare Studios and mastered by Carl Saff with cover art by Smith Smith. The first pressing of the LP is limited to just 311 (jah bless) copies on random colored vinyl. The picture above is merely a sample of some of the crazy colors in there. They all look and sound great, and we can't guarantee you'll get any particular color, but we'll send the craziest and coolest looking ones out to the earliest orders. Oh and one random order will get a TEST PRESSING! The official release date is March 31, 2017 but pre-orders will start shipping in mid-February. You can hear the first track from the album "True Romance" and pre-order the record NOW on Bandcamp! Stream/Download/Pre-order:https://forgeagainrecords.bandcamp.com/album/sore-loser
  6. Chicago VC

I figured I'd start a new thread for the Chicago people to keep in contact on what is going on. I know there are alot of Chi-town people on here so I thought this might be a good idea.
  7. "Pacemaker is the latest project from Chicago musician Matthew Frank (Their / They're / There, Lifted Bells, Recreational Drugs). The six song debut EP was written and performed entirely by Matt, showcasing more straight-forward and pop-sensible indie rock songs than his previous projects. Available 2/3/2017. Stream a song over at A.V. Club here: http://www.avclub.com/article/pacemaker-pays-tribute-its-heroes-pryor-creek-248512 Pre-order here: http://store.brokenworldmedia.com/products/585267-pacemaker-pacemaker-ep-12-cs-pre-order

The band’s sophomore full length is 12 new songs using a sonic pallet drawn as much from bands like Leatherface and Articles of Faith as it is contemporaries like Canadian Rifle, Tenement, and Witches with Dicks. The album is rounded out by a faithful cover of The Mice’s 1986 “Not Proud Of The USA” and illustrations by Shannon Thompson. Mastered by Dave Williams at Eight Floors Above. Members of Earth Girls, Broken Prayer, GIDIM, and more. "Over the course of its five-year existence, Boilerman has become a cornerstone of Chicago’s DIY punk scene… the quintessential Chicago pop-punk band of this decade." - AV Club "...a more contemporary comparison would be that this sounds like the "legit pop-punk" of bands like Tenement (and... is there anyone else who does it well?) filtered through the aesthetic of askew, Die Kreuzen-influenced hardcore bands like Raw Nerve or Nasa Space Universe." - Sorry State Newsletter
  11. BOILERMAN News

  12. Delirium! Horror! Hilarity! Just a few of the running rampant emotions on a three-month music tour as five filmmakers chronicle Chicago-based White Mystery siblings, Miss Alex White and Francis Scott Key White, who are living the breakneck nomadic lifestyle of a touring rock act. This is a not-to-be missed peek inside the telepathic minds of White Mystery as they perform in Chicago, Los Angeles, and Georgia. Will the film live up to its title? Limited edition on yellow shell cassette tape. Only 125 copies pressed. Includes unlimited streaming of White Mystery - That Was Awesome! (BTR050) via the free Bandcamp app, plus high-quality download in MP3, FLAC and more. http://blacktoprecords.bandcamp.com/album/white-mystery-that-was-awesome-btr050
  13. "Anyone can tell you that being in an instrumental band better mean you are damn good at your instrument and creative enough to compensate for the lack of the vocals. The good news is Recreational Drugs pass with flying colors- which should be of no surprise, given the resume of Matthew Frank (Their/They’re/There, Lifted Bells) and Josh Sparks (Into It. Over It., Former Thieves). Still, in this project they really shine, with movement after movement of contemplative and thoughtful guitar layers and drums that fit together like a puzzle. Recreational Drugs is not a band you just put on in the background to study-on the contrary, Recreational Drugs is a band you stop everything else to study. Think Ghosts and Vodka meets Unwed Sailor." Really excited to finally get to show everyone this. Pre-order goes live on Thursday, record comes out on the 18th.
  14. Thinking of visiting Chicago in February to see Caspian, O'brother and Defeater. I missed the last Caspian tour and figure I can make a winter trip. Anyone have recommendations on what to do and what to see while there? I guess i'll be renting a car and driving to Dekalb, Illinois to see the show. Jonathan

  17. Today marks the release of the excellent full length by THE VALENTEENS entitled "Fuzzed Out Tone for the Painfully Alone" on cassette courtesy of HIP KID and ICE AGE RECORDS. Pop songs played at 45 rpm, with the volume and ferocity pushed to the brink of destruction. Drums explode through thick walls of fuzz and distortion to make room for the hooks, while the melody-laden vocals help navigate through the forest of noise, leading you towards the light and onto the dance floor. Don't you wanna??? Listen/download at http://hipkidrecords.bandcamp.com Pick up a copy at http://hipkidrecords.storenvy.com
  18. Yo dudes, new release! Here's the pitch: Besides having one of the best band names in the world, LASERS AND FAST AND SHIT also have what Tiny Grooves described as “one hell of a propulsive fiery art damaged punk sound. Mix in the brash angular punk of LES SAVY FAV, the garage thump of the MISTREATERS, the hardcore thrash of DOUBLE DAGGER and the noise riffing of DRIVE LIKE JEHU... and maybe throw in some BIG BLACK, NATION OF ULYSSES and JESUS LIZARD for good measure..... what you get is some of the most engaging hardcore tinged punk rock that doesn't follow those boring old formulas." Featuring current and former members of BLOODIEST, RUSSIAN CIRCLES, and SHAPERS, LASERS previously cranked out a self-released 7" and a cassette EP for Hewhocorrupts, Inc.. With Third: Munch, the fog/lights/noise whirlwind that is LASERS AND FAST AND SHIT is finally unleashing their first full length LP. Recorded by Mike Lust at Kingsize Studios and mastered by Erik Rasmussen, the first pressing is limited to just 200 copies on red vinyl with silk-screened polybags and full color sleeves. LASERS will be playing a series of FREE shows this weekend to celebrate this release. They'll be playing at Record Breakers (Reggie's) in Chicago on Saturday, April 18th at 11 AM as part of Record Store Day. And if that's not enough for you, they're also playing that same day at the Reckless Records on Milwaukee Ave. at 2 PM. And if THAT isn't enough, they are playing a FREE record release show on 4/20 at the Empty Bottle with FAKE LIMBS and VELOCICOPTER. For now, starting Saturday you'll be able to get the record exclusive at Record Breakers and Reckless. You can also order it direct from us or pick up a copy from the band at the Empty Bottle on Monday. Order and stream a few of the tracks NOW at Forge Again Records Bandcamp page. Here's a sneak peak of the LP and my cat for good measure.
  19. Another release for Solar Flare Records! We'll be releasing Chicago's combo AMERICAN HERITAGE new album entitled Prolapse : PREORDER SLF016 :: AMERICAN HERITAGE - Prolapse LP & CD out November 24th 2014 LISTEN TO « ANXIOUS BEDWETTER » PREMIERED AT REVOLVER MAGAZINE ORDER HERE Prolapse leads with six cranked-up AMERICAN HERITAGE originals followed by three covers, the album energizing the listener from the lead riff of opening track, “Eastward Cast The Entrails.” Yet it’s the second track, “Anxious Bedwetter,” which takes the whiplash level up a notch, with jacked-up rhythms and layered leads thundering in and out in a mesmerizing, epic attack. A highlight of the album, this one will not just reel in the diehards who have followed the progression of AMERICAN HERITAGE since their 1996 foundation, but pretty much anybody into forward-thinking, sludge-touched riffery of Mastodon, Keelhaul, Tombs and Hull should not walk away disappointed. TRACKLIST : 1. Eastward Cast the Entrails 2. Anxious Bedwetter 3. Obliviocrity 4. Constant and Consuming Fear of Death and Dying 5. Mask Of Lies 6. Blackbird 7. Hürtin’ Crüe [Descendents Cover] 8. Thirsty and Miserable [black Flag Cover] 9. Bulletproof Cupid [Girls Against Boys Cover] Prolapse was produced by Sanford Parker at SOMA Studios with additional recording by Mike Lust (Tight Phantomz, Football) and Che Arthur (Pink Avalanche), with additional vocals and guitars from Lust, and Parker supplying keyboards and handling mixing duties, and Jeffrey Lohrber (Enabler, Today is the Day) contributing vocals to a track. Vinyl infos : :: 500 LPs on two different colours : - 200 A Side / B Side (Grey and Baby Pink) - 300 Black :: Mate laminated jacket :: Download code :: Price : 11.90€ + shipping CD version and digital available SOLAR FLARE RECORDS : Website | Bandcamp | Facebook | Twitter | Web Store | Youtube | Soundcloud | Instagram AMERICAN HERITAGE : Twitter | Facebook
  20. Selling 2 tickets to the Chicago date of this tour on 12/9 for significantly less than what I paid for them. 55 for two. I paid 70. PM me and please tell your friends, I'm desperate!
  21. Milwaukee's VOLUNTEER harks back to the days when music could be heavy without being "metal"; when power came from the intensity with which a band's members played, not from volume, effects, or theatrics. VOLUNTEER's new 4 song 10" Goner perfectly encapsulates their ethos - brutal riffs hammered out with a directness that defies classification or easy comparisons. But hey, if you want to try, think Unsane, The Melvins, Young Widows, Helmet, The Jesus Lizard, etc. Goner is a 4-song 10" on red/black OR pure black vinyl pressed in the US by United Record Pressing. Hand screen-printed cover. Includes digital download card. Only 200 red/black copies and 100 black copies were pressed. Stream the whole thing now! And hey, there's a Jawbreaker cover on here, ya know. https://forgeagainrecords.bandcamp.com/album/goner
  22. Figured this was probably worth sharing if so. With the emo revival in full swing people gotta be getting down on this stuff again. Just uploaded this video of short, but complete sets from Rescue and Grayson from the 2002 tour we did for our split 7".
