  1. So, I recently bought an old Telefunken s600 hifi. I have not yet received it, and it is an object in need of some reparation. Main thing is that the tone arm, Ortofon As-212 (which seem highly popular by the way?) needs fixing since the bearing housing has been damaged (they seem to become brittle over time). I thought that maybe I would post a thread here with pictures etc. when I am trying to repair this unit, probably mostly for myself to be able to go back and look at pictures, but maybe someone else (now or in the future) would interested in seeing that too. I will update as I get the product which is being sent by mail.
  2. I've had my Debut Carbon for a few years now, and I'm thinking about upgrading my setup. Here's what I have currently: Pro-Ject Debut Carbon (with the Ortofon 2M Red that it came with) -> Sony STR-AV320 (receiver with phono input) -> Sharp CP-BA2650 speakers (in Speaker A) and Bose Interaudio 2000 speakers (in Speaker B ) Everything besides the turntable was given to me for free or super cheap, so I'm looking to swap some of those parts out. The problem is that I don't know what the bottleneck in my setup is. Does anyone have any experiences with this receiver or these speakers? If so, where should I go from here? For amps, I've been looking at the Yamaha A-S501, Onkyo A-9050, Music Hall a15.3, and the Marantz PM5004 or 6005. I also have a TCC TC-750LC preamp that I got before I got the receiver. Would it be worth it to throw this into my setup now, or is it not going to have much of an effect? Thanks in advance!
  3. I was wondering if anyone would be willing to share their experiences upgrading from the Ortofon 2M Red Phono Cartridge to the Ortofon 2M Blue Phono Cartridge. I feel like this is a common step up from those who have the 2M Red Cartridge, so I was hoping someone could shine light on noticeable differences they experienced upon upgrading. Probably won't be upgrading soon as my 2M still has a lot of life left, but never to early to start looking into viable upgrades. Thanks!
  4. I'm updating an older thread. The first thing I'm selling is a 2M Red stylus. Backstory below. Price lowered from $50 shipped to $40 shipped. I'm selling a very lightly used Ortofon 2M Red stylus only, though it is housed in a non-functioning cartridge. The context: I bought a Debut Carbon Esprit SB from Insound's closing sale. It comes with the 2M Red. But I already had a relatively new Grado Gold1 cartridge. So I played the Esprit with the Red for about 2 weeks max before deciding I would be able to swap out the cartridges (I had done so before on a vintage table), but I pulled too hard and out came one of the prongs at the back of the cartridge. I quickly rushed to my nearest audio store for them to swap the cartridges. I was then told I destroyed the cartridge's wiring, but the stylus was in great shape and could be placed into any 2M shell. So I will ship the 2M Red stylus still attached to the non-functioning cartridge, packed nicely to anywhere in the world for $40US including shipping and Paypal fees. I think that's a pretty good deal considering replacement cartridges sell for $87US at the moment. And I will offer a guarantee that if it doesn't work, you can send it back to me for a refund. Will also trade towards an entry level desktop headphone amp a la Schiit Magni. Also available: NAD PP3i phono preamp. Very good working condition - used regularly for three years and worked perfectly the entire time. Has a USB out to connect to a computer, though I never used this and have heard it's not the best, but still workable. $85US shipped anywhere in the world. Shure SRH840 - got these in a deal with another set of headphones, though not exactly sure I want to keep them - don't know if I have a place for them. Pretty immaculate condition. Not totally sure I'll sell, but will consider offers (trades included). Ringmat - got this as a thrown in with a new phono preamp, and I don't think I'll need it since I have an acrylic platter, but it's a turntable mat that apparently is pretty good. Looks to be in good shape. Seems to sell for 40 pounds or more in the UK (or at least it did - I can't tell if these are still being sold). Here's what it looks like. $25 shipped? Way less if you buy from me on Discogs (http://www.discogs.com/seller/raindogtrombone/profile)
  5. I'm new to all this and currently have a hand-me-down from my Dad which is a Dual CS 505-3. Sounded great for a while but recently started to sound more muffled and quite 'heavy base' on records I know were fine before. I'm assuming this is the needle that needs replacing? However budget wise it's limiting me and I can't really afford to get it wrong! Does anyone know a low budget stylus that would work for the Dual CS 505-3? The current one is a Ortofon DN 165E. I've seen the OM10 (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ORIGINAL-Ortofon-Nadel-10-fur-OMB-OM-Super-uva-NEU-/260304084116?pt=Plattenspielerzubeh%C3%B6r&hash=item3c9b551c94) which looks to be within my budget however would this just be a simple swap and replace or would I need a new cartrdige too? Also seen this http://www.gettheneedle.co.uk/stylus/brands-d/dual/dual-cs505-3-stylus-needle.html but I'm assuming I should avoid it as it seems very cheap. Any help anyone could give me would be much appreciated, I've searched around and struggling to get a definite answer!
  6. Hi, so I currently have a Audio Technica LP120 (I know it's not the best thing in the world) and I'm planning on upgrading the cartridge to the Ortofon 2M Red. The thing is I run some powered speakers through the pre-amp in the TT and I'm wondering if it would be smarter to get myself a nice receiver/pre-amp to improve sound quality over getting a new cartridge. I also plan on getting a nicer pair of speakers, but I figure those can wait. Thank you for any advice you can give me!
  7. Thinking of upgrading from the 2M Red. Can't seem to find a "vs" video on YouTube. Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated!
  8. $450 is the price for all new Carbons I see here in Canada. Go for it or wait for a cheaper deal on the stock model? Or go vintage? Or idk EDIT: Just got it. Turns out what I forgot in the listing was that it included a Q up tonearm lifter, which is $60. Not bad. c:
