I wish my wife liked horror-comedies.  She absolutely loves horror movies, but any kind of comedy thrown in where like… you can tell they’re trying to be funny, usually kills it for her.  She didn’t even like What We Do In The Shadows and I couldn’t believe it.

To this day, the only horror-comedy I know that she genuinely likes and enjoys is Tucker & Dale vs. Evil.  Why that one stands out to her, I have no idea.

Not sure if it makes a difference but this is 100% a comedy that just happens to be about a group of friends of who happen to like horror movies. It’s delightfully weird at times but it’s for sure *at most* horror-adjacent; it’s very much just a huge-hearted comedy.

  2. I’m around 2-3 years late in this but my wife and I watched the HBO series Los Espookys over the last week and thought it was delightful. Super twee and funny / charming. Season 2 reportedly finished filming earlier this year so I’m glad we’re catching it late so we don’t have to wait super long for more episodes.

If anyone still wants MC it is in stock here for $80 with free shipping. Guessing it just got repressed? Also available on DeepDiscount's site but for a bit more:

Only $1 more (since Walmart shows sold out) if you use the DEEP10 discount code for 10% off. (+ you have to pay shipping - boo)

It’s pretty nuts.  First time I watched it was years and years ago.  I think it was only available on Facebook of all places.  Watched it again to show my wife for the first time a couple years ago and it still held up as being creepy as hell.

Yeah, it’s crazy unnerving, really effective and unsettling. Glad I finally checked it out, definitely wanted a shower afterwards 😂

Its astounding how popular that Kittie was considering they were nothing but a mid level medicore nu metal band. Very strange

This is certainly filtered through 20+ years of my shitty memory, but based on my friends in high school in the late 90's:

Goth girls  + nu-metal was mostly pretty bro-y = niche but dedicated popularity

I saw that earlier.  And then I couldn't for the life of me even remember anything of that soundtrack (I only remember when the blonde is singing) and decide that probably didn't warrant dropping $30.

I watched The Sadness a bit ago (which is coming to Shudder in a week or so) and it's a lot.  Like, *a lot* a lot.  It certainly is not for the squeamish, and if you have buttons to press it'll certainly press them.  I don't know how I feel about it - it's effective, but a rough watch.  I have other thoughts but they get a spoiler-y.

We're All Going to the World's Fair - Complete miss for me.  I think I was expecting something more straight forward and it very much isn't that.  Seeing comments elsewhere, it seems to be a movie people either love or hate.

lol - a number of pages back i'd commented on this one: "I can see this one being *really* divisive in the horror scene though, especially because I think the the trailer gives a really incorrect impression of what you’re going to see." I enjoyed it (not a ton, but I did enjoy it) but it certainly took some quick on-the-fly reevaluation of what i expected from it first.

  8. Yeah, I’m on constant client calls today but am very much looking forward to finally listening to this beginning to end tomorrow.

Caught them live last month and they were incredible (again / as always) and the show got me very hyped for the album.

(I was probably on a buying hiatus when the last LP came out so I'd missed it had also had a box edition - just grabbed a new copy of Discogs for retail so am happy to add it to the collection)

I’ll never punch out the boxes so I passed on the set. Normal pink wax for me. Also, I need less boxes on my shelf at this point because space is a premium.

Got both copies (normal and box) of the new album in today and am really surprised by how nice the sturdy / lifttop box of the boxset really is and how much more substantial the whole presentation is.  Now, it *is* still just a presentation difference - and i'm still not going to punch out all these medicine boxes - but i'm really happy with the quality of the box.

edited to add an image for reference. Yes, my table is messy, I have kids and this is about the best it gets most days.

  10. Okay, sorry for back to back posts.

Watched The Cellar and it was fine. Needed to kill 90 minutes because my wife was laid out with a migraine in the bedroom, and this sure took 90 minutes.

We watched You Won’t Be Alone (new Macedonian flick which I think is presently only available for the “in theaters” rental price; I watched it through less savory avenues) and absolutely loved it - it really was phenomenal - beautiful cinematography and soundtrack, a lovely and at times lyrical script - way more arthouse than horror, but for those who love both this is a treat.

I watched X tonight and liked it quite a bit!  Very much a spiritual companion to House of the Devil.  It's impressive that West was able to capture the magic of doing a period film that feels like it was made in the time period it takes place in a second time.

(***pulled up the reply box and saw I never hit post on this***)
Agree with the above. Ultimately the time/place thing props the movie up a bit more than the movie itself - which I enjoyed but it did not meet my (admittedly high, possible unreasonably so) expectations. I enjoyed it, I just expected more.

Good to hear on The Cellar; I’ll make it a daytime watch with my dog while everyone else is at school/work 😂

Yeah, I’m literally interested in nothing here (at least not interested in getting up / going out for anything).
Maybe the Superchunk 2LP? I can’t imagine that’ll be hard to get through the afternoon online drops.

My favorite /s thing about this day is how  only 2 months after the above post I’ll likely end up picking up like 10-12 releases before tomorrow is over 😂
