  1. They're doing a west coast tour in Feb as well... playing Vancouver the day after my 35th birthday!! Who's doing the vinyl re-issues?
  2. Var.... press all the Fay Wray recordings onto a double LP set. I'd buy one!
  3. My white whales are pretty obscure, first wave western Canadian punk rock... Rock n Roll Bitches 7" Sturgeons 7" Malibu Kens 7" Hot Nasties 7" Modernettes - LP (Not Teen city, the one with a silk screened cover) and for more recent shit... Lucero - That Much Further West LP I'm sure there's more.
  4. I know exactly what you 2 are talking about! Joe, you run a mighty fine label. Thanx for the Spanish Bombs LP. Looks, and sounds, great.
  5. I think my Pegboy tribute is overall pretty good...there's a few klunkers on there admittedly, has anyone heard that, that'll vouch for me? There's a few good tracks on there, but honestly Pegboy is not an easy band to cover... the guitars have a distinct tone, and the vocals are not comparable to many others.
  6. what might your favorite band be? I'm probably way older than you and that's why i can't believe that MXPX would be someones favorite band. But as for my favorite bands... off the top of my head; Stiff Little Fingers, Black Flag, the Clash, the Replacements, KISS, Descendents, Angry Samoans, Avail, Undertow, J Church, Fay Wray, Modern Life is War. .... the list goes on. But hey, to each their own.
  7. hahaha...my bad. I meant EARTH but i was looking at a stack of End of A Year singles. But it doesn't change the fact that MXPX sucks.
  8. I've always felt that MXPX is one of the worst bands to ever walk this earth, and i'm stunned that they've stuck around as long as they have. But they've gone beyond shit with their limp cover of "Hey Porter" on the "All Aboard" compilation tribute to Johnny Cash. I've been playing that compilation in the record store i work at and whenever their track comes on i feel embarrassed to be playing such a pathetic song. Granted that comp has quite a few mediocre songs, but there's is beyond bad.
  9. So they took pre-orders before they even started putting the project together? Most labels start pre-orders once the record is sent to printers, and all the logistics have been figured out. But it sounds like they took peoples money, than started putting everything together. I wouldn't call what they're doing "shady", just really fuckin' stupid.
  10. I really like the "Old Wounds" record, and i'm super stoked for new songs but honestly the bands on these splits don't really interest me at all. But still i've ordered the whole set.
  11. The question is.... will anyone really care? I might be wrong. I remember doing a show for them in Edmonton in the early 90's that errupted into a riot because David Yow was wasted and started insulting the local opening band. And the openers were a metal band with alot of friends and fans in the crowd. It was pretty funny. So much shit flying thru the air.. pure insanity.
  12. The only problem i've had with no idea was in the very early 90's when Var didn't send me my records & zines. hahahah. No Idea's site always works for me and my laptop sucks balls. And Matt is a good dude, as is everyone at no idea.
  13. It took me 13 years to find my White Whale: Bum - A Promise Is A Promise 7". I was starting to think it didn't really exist. But I finally snagged it earlier this year. dude, good single!! And it's actually pretty common in these parts.
  14. Yeah i normally stay away from these places but with this Pulling Teeth single i knew it was limited edition so i went direct with the label Chainsaw Safety. Much to my chagrin Chainsaw Safety has Merch Direct take care of all their mailorder. If i knew of anyone else who had this record in their distro i would've ordered it from them. I emailed Merch Direct this morning.... see what they have to say about this.
  15. I ordered the 4th 7" that Pulling Teeth released in their limited series, this is the one where they cover the Ramones. Anyhow, Merch Direct sent it in a padded envelope with NO CARDBOARD, and no stickers or notices saying "Fragile" or "Do Not Bend". So the mail carrier just crammed it into our apartment mailbox, which isn't very big. Thankfully the vinyl is ok but the sleeve is right fucked up & mangled. I'm so frustrated, you would think a place that does mailorder, and has been doing it for years, would train people to treat vinyl better.
  16. I don't have time to read this whole thread but i will give my opinion on 3 levels; I work at a wholesale distributor. When i talk to clients about new releases and we get to vinyl often they will ask if it has the code. I also work in a indie retail store connected to the distro. Often customers ask if a record has a download code, especially with the punk related releases. As a record buyer i'm glad to see codes in records, even if i don't use it. I bought a USB turntable last year in order to get vinyl onto my ipod so the download code saves me that step.
  17. I've been writing about shows and records on my new blog... i gotta start writing more because i've got a big record collection and close to 25 years of record buying to write about. 3chordsisallineed.blogspot.com
  18. I really like Soul Control, and i'm stoked to get new songs... but damn these 1 song 7"s are costing me a fortune! Since i live in Canada this record cost me $9.30 after the exchange and postage. I'm gonna end up paying nearly $40 for 4 songs.... being a record nerd kinda sux sometimes.
  19. I was pretty impressed with this LP as well when we got it at my store. Nice silk screened covers as well.
  20. I got a 7" from No Idea when it came out, must've been about 10years ago now, and i still listen to it. I actually transferred into MP3's to put on the ipod.
  21. I might have a copy on red. I know i own a few copies of this, and one might be on red. I'll check tonight.
  22. What i recommend is... put the speed on 33 (regardless of what speed the record is, then start moving the arm very slowly across towards the record. This is the method i use, it's like you're fooling your turntable into thinking you're playing a normal record. I have problems with the Pulling Teeth records as well as 5" records but with a bit of patience it always works.
  23. The site appears to be jammed, having difficulty getting my ticket. Bum out.
  24. Combining multiple orders would be great for those of us outside the US as our shipping charges are more (I believe).
