Seriously? Have you been in a Hot Topic? Based on the facial piercings, tattoos, ear gauges, etc, I'm thinking they chose to be there.

I know what the thread is.... but it's about the series, not a specific record.  Also, I don't think I asked you a damn thing.  fucking troll.

I don't care for this release but that list got me thinking. Sucks both of my local hot topics closed within the last year. Now it's not worth it.

    You'd think.

Except Rainbo could also cut corners on quality to keep the costs of high-volume production down, since a lot of people who buy vinyl buy it for the novelty of being vinyl and either a ) won't actually listen to it. or b ) listen to records in a cheap turntable. Those people will buy vinyl regardless of how it comes off the press.

I don't think the bigger labels (Rise, Hopeless, Fearless) care too much about how their vinyl releases sound since they throw majority of their releases on vinyl these days, and I highly doubt they use analog masters.

A consumers only purpose is not to keep a business afloat. Also, a company needs to earn your business, they arent entitled to it. If I buy a Ford and have nothing but issues with it and the dealership dicks me around, I am not going to buy another Ford. If I preorder a record and the label takes forever to put it out, misses repeated deadlines without informing me as to why it is late, and puts out a sub par product, they arent getting my money again. It isnt my job to make sure they dont fail, they should stop overextending themselves to the point that they are going to fail if they dont scam people out of money.

Look at Suburban Home/Vinyl Collective. Virgil had a small label going for close to fifteen years, then when vinyl started getting huge again, he started overextending himself, licensing expensive stuff, overstaffing his company, missing deadlines, moving to more expensive rent place, etc etc. Soon enough, he started to bleed money and would do anything to stay afloat. Not my issue that he made bad business choices while chasing more money and he deserved to fail because of how he ended up screwing bands and customers out of money.

You're missing the point of pre-orders. Shit is expensive to fully fund for most small labels without pre-order help. If you don't like it then don't pre-order anything.

Yeah, I asked Topshelf on their page about it, really surprised it was a 7" with five songs, especially since these aren't bands like The Clippers (example TSR used)

Skeletal Lightning reacted to Derek™ in Circa Survive Discography Reissue ?
That's the kicker here.  A band of Circa's popularity and success has zero reason to press a limited amount of vinyl and ask $30+ PPD for them.  Your "supply vs. demand" argument is irrelevant: they're selling the same record that they sold for $15 a few years back.  Presumably from the exact same masters.  They're not including bonus material.  They're not expanding the packaging.  They're not using any additional resources.  But they're charging [roughly] twice as much.  Why?  Because they know people will pay it.

Like it's been said in this thread - and many more - it all comes down to standing your ground and voting with your dollar.  I know I praise Deathwish quite a bit, but honestly; look at the facts.  Converge's seminal album Jane Doe used to fetch prices that rival Juturna and OLG.  It was out of print for years; when it was repressed, the label included an additional 11" x 11" colored booklet, and still asked standard retail price for it.  Could Deathwish have charged $40 a copy, and still had the album sell at tremendous speeds?  I have no doubt about it.  But they didn't ask $40, because they're not dicks.  And we didn't pay $40, because we're not desperate.

And regarding that last bold bit.  Who am I to bitch?  I'm just another music / vinyl nerd on an online community, like yourself.  We're all entitled to an opinion here.  And mine just so happens to be that Circa dug deep on this one.  I don't have a dog in this fight, but I'm still going to have a hearty laugh if Friday rolls around, and EVR is asking < $18 per LP with sane shipping costs.  If you disagree with my post or think that $30+ single LPs are justifiable "because they're in demand", that's your problem.  I can respect your opinion, but don't beat your chest or question my right to voice my thoughts.  Thanks.

I'd say working at a label. I work for Polyvinyl and was inadvertently able to build up a nice Owen collection.

i see dkelly41 has hit me in this thread too!

i find it funny that dkelly41 can visit my profile nearly every day, neg every post i make on the site, (hes brought me down over 100 now), and have it mentioned three times to the mods, and they do nothing.

its not even the negative rep that bugs me, but the fact that some loser is taking time out of almost every day of his to go to my profile and negative rep everything i write just because i wouldnt trade him a snowing record, and then i offered him 2 cash deals.

    fucking pointless rant done.

ughh man, never had a problem with them. the only "problem" was getting a $9 record with media mail(record was like $4.50 on sale), they sent it priority and got it in 2 days instead of 20, they actually lost money on that transaction. I felt kinda bad. It's $18.97 (about $23 including shipping). And the way they censored the dick is hilarious. Wish I could post it, can't find the "hide" function.

Good thread, bad location. Belongs in everything else. Also. The noun is record. Vinyl isn't the singular of vinyl. Also vinyl is not a word.
Anyhow on to the real topic after the blink splatter series announcement, I regret selling my Buddha splatter
