red dirt got a reaction from sinatra.45 in PO Now: Pylon Live 2x LP
I'm all over this... in for the magenta deluxe:

    --

    https://chunklet.bandcamp.com/album/live

"Limited to 217 on magenta vinyl.
Limited to 312 on clear vinyl.
    Unlimited on black vinyl."

"Pylon Live is a double vinyl album recorded on the band’s home turf at the culmination of their powers, and the results could not be more stellar. An all killer, no filler set with nothing left on the cutting room floor, Pylon Live includes powerful versions of the Pylon canon from their first and second LPs and even the hard-to-find song “Party Zone” (previously available only on a DB Rec comp) and their never-before-released rendition of the “Batman Theme.”

When compared to the band’s prior body of work, Pylon Live bookends all of it; some might even say it’s a better representation of this Athens quartet, who thrived on bouncing around on stage infinitely more than sitting in a studio.

There’s little arguing that the Athens powerhouse trifecta of R.E.M., the B-52’s, and Pylon is peerless. And while all three bands have achieved great critical acclaim, only the first two had the commercial acclaim they deserved. Pylon Live intends to correct that.

Pylon Live is being released on July 25, 2016, the birthday of deceased Pylon guitarist Randy Bewley, with release events scheduled for this summer in Atlanta and Athens."

Tombs, "Savage Gold" out June 10, 2014:

Pressing Info: First Press 1500 x Black Standard Gram 500 x Gold Standard Gram *Mailorder Exclusive* 100 x Clear (do not request clear)   TOMBS’ third album Savage Gold is the most anticipated underground metal album of 2014.  The band’s  sophomore LP Path Of Totality unanimously topped 2011 end of the year metal lists (everyone from Decibel to Pitchfork to NPR, and more, dubbed it their top album of that year).  Savage Gold focuses the awesome strength of Tombs’ previous works into one brilliantly dark post-punk and extreme black-metal masterpiece.  Recorded and produced by Hate Eternal’s Erik Rutan (Cannibal Corpse, Goatwhore), Savage Gold both expands upon the moody post-punk foundations that Tombs’ prior albums explored while also bringing out the band’s most traditionally metal moments yet.  Once every few years a record comes along that sets a new benchmark for what can be done in heavy music.  This is that moment and this is that record.

I can think of very few things better than a free record. Finding an onion ring mixed in with your regular french fries is close... but not equal.

I have a bunch of random crap signed... no pro skills when it comes to autographs, but I have no qualms about asking for a quick signature if I'm an actual fan of their music. I hope they think it's flattering, as long as I'm not being weird or stalky about it.

The earliest is a pizza flyer that Eddie Vedder signed for me way back in '92. I ran into him as they were coming off stage for a sound check in Athens, and kept the autograph stuffed in my Ten CD case forever. Mike Patton signed my CD sleeve for Angel Dust a year or so later, under the same circumstances. A few years later, I met Dave Grohl coming out of the bathroom at LAX. He signed a receipt I had in my pocket, with an arrow pointing to a dribble of urine on it, labeled "pee pee". I also have a ticket stub signed by Mike Ness. I also have a crushed PBR can somewhere signed by Aaron Beam from Red Fang. Oh, and I bought a copy of a Swans CD a couple of years ago used, and found that it had been signed by Michael Gira, which was nifty.

The only vinyl I have autographed is a Mastodon "Hunter" LP signed by 3 of the guys, and my prized vinyl "Grinderman 2" signed by both Nick Cave and Warren Ellis. That was probably my biggest starstruck moment, where I probably creeped myself out----but, you know, Nick Cave is a living god.

Agreed. I always wait to see what the band has on their merch table before deciding if they are serious musicians. Once I saw that Grinderman was selling tea towels at a show here in Atlanta, I knew that Nick Cave fellow was just a hack.

Pro Tip: Decatur CD homie... FUUUUCK Criminal.. It will be absurd whereas Decatur CD is an awesome shop 5mins away that isn't full of idiots tearing each others eyes out for a copy of a Skrillex record.

red dirt got a reaction from nivek87 in Major Label Vinyl Delays, Help?
I used to handle some production work for a major label about 10 years ago. The lead times they expected were absurd, even for CD's.

The best advice I can offer is to delicately explain that as demand is increasing for vinyl (especially short-run variants), lead times are also increasing. I would guess that this isn't an industry that will be quick to expand capacity, due to the capital equipment required & the fact that vinyl is still generally considered a "niche" of the overall market.

Citing examples of other delayed releases is one way to justify things----but I'd also back it up by citing increased demand across the board:

According to The Nielsen Company & Billboard's 2012 Music Industry Report:
"For the fifth consecutive year, more vinyl albums were purchased than any other year in the history of Nielsen SoundScan."
"In 2012, vinyl album sales reached 4.6 million in sales, breaking the previous record of 3.9 million LP album sales in 2011." "67% of all vinyl albums were purchased at an independent music store during 2012." "Vinyl album sales in 2012 were up 19% compared to 2011 and accounted for 1.4% of all album sales and 2.3% of all physical album sales."

red dirt got a reaction from waytansea27 in Would you buy? Split 12" with two debut EPs from up coming bands on it?
I'd be interested in split EP's, particularly if they were "tour editions," featuring bands that are/were touring together at some point. Maybe even include a print of the tour artwork/dates with the vinyl.
