  1. i've watched it twice since it was released, and will probably re-watch it again soon. i find that subculture so fascinating. as ignorant as they all may seem, they are SO fucking shameless that it's almost impressive. also, props to the filmmakers. if you have time, watch some of the other mini-docs they've done. the one on the bowler is particularly awesome.
  2. var ads = new Array("300x250-1.png","300x250-2.png","300x250-3.png"); var num = Math.floor(Math.random()*ads.length); if(Math.floor(Math.random()*2) == 0) { if(Math.floor(Math.random()*2) == 0) document.write('+':779lihms]'); else document.write('+':779lihms]'); } else { document.write(''); }

  4. sucks. usually celebrity deaths never affect me, but i feel as though we actually lost a true visionary. like we're almost missing out on a lot of great ideas and advancements due to the passing of one man. i've actually been on a huge muppets kick these past couple of months.. which led me to old sesame street videos.. episodes of fraggle rock.. behind the scene features.. and then to multiple documentaries on jim henson, and even a video of his memorial. although i was only like 2 when he passed.. i felt this intense sadness watching these clips. his life was cut so short, and he had SO much more to offer. same with jobs.

  6. very valid. i still don't personally care that much about it, but i can definitely see your point. i guess i always looked at comic books as more of a visual art form than as a vehicle to tell stories (at least that was the aspect i was interested it.) so as long as my favorite comic book artists are drawing cat woman and the huntress, i'm not too invested in their roles in the story (goes for the male characters too.) but again, thats totally personally. i try to make a special effort to not really get offended or caught up in any kind of portrayal of any type of group in form of media outlet. i just don't think political-correctness has any place in any art form. i may not agree with the way DC is portraying their female characters (in fact, i'm always more attracted to a bad ass female character than any other protagonist,) but if they made the conscious effort to go in this direction, so be it.
  7. i'd like to think of myself as a progressive and for equal rights and all that other hippy bullshit.. but honestly, i just can't muster up any real outrage on the state of female characters in comic books. i understand that there is a portion of DC's readership that are female or feminist, but i can equally get angry at the way guys are portrayed in shows like sex and the city or soap operas or even romance novels... and no one cares. and they shouldn't.
  8. hey dude.. you should bump this thread to get more people's attention. but seriously, this is pretty sweet.
  9. i've never seen anything like Drive before.. at least in a theater. i always think its a cop out when people attribute slow movies to the building of tension, but that's exactly how i would describe the first half of Drive.. and it fucking works 100%. the acting was superb (albert brooks and bryan cranston especially.) ryan gosling didn't annoy me as much as he usually does. his performance felt awkward to me at first, but it seemed to gel as the film went on. and christina hendricks was.. ya know, busty. also, one of the best first scenes to a movie i think i have ever seen. seriously. and yeah, as mentioned above, soundtrack was great. i saw bronson recently and couldn't really get into (not nearly as much as i did with this new flick.) have you seen the pusher trilogy or vahalla rising? i've been meaning to check those out.
  10. is there a good site that sells a bunch of nice prints.. or news about new limited prints being sold from artists, etc..? i'm looking more for those artistic interpretations of movie posters but any resource would do!
  11. Exactly. And in recent US history this was a fucking terrible event, it's not every day two massive buildings get blown up and thousands of innocent people die, there is no doubt this day should be remembered every year. And for the record I am not even from the US, but I have seen a lot of people "hating" on 9/11 lately, treating it as a nothing event, which is frankly bullshit. i think its just a counter reaction to the "spectacle of 9/11." everybody would agree that what happened that day was tragic beyond belief, but just because someone comments on the hype through a comical post in a message board doesn't mean that they are treating it as a "nothing event." in fact, humor is still one of the best coping methods. but that being said, people on both sides can take this too far. i think making jokes about those who lost their lives or the families who lost love ones is just as bad as news channels broadcasting 9/11 specials for the past three days to boost their ratings and stores pushing bumper stickers and trucker hats in the name of "freedom."
  12. i'm indifferent about how i met your mother.. havent seen enough episodes to have a solid opinion. but big bang theory.. SUCKS FUCKING BALLS. seriously. its just as bad as two and a half men.. but what makes it worse is it has this reputation that it's actually good. HOW!?!
  13. unless i'm reading this wrong, it seems like the only thing bothering you about your weed and alcohol consumption is the cravings you get when your sober. you've been at it for a decade (at least with pot) and from what i can tell, it hasn't strained any major relationships or affected your career (although this may be something your not telling us.) you said yourself that you don't think its a serious addiction and your just worried that it might catch up to you. from personal experience alone, i'll say that it's a fucking BITCH to quit if you don't really want to. i mean, there were many times in my youth where i saw myself drowning and i thought i HAD to quit, but i just loved getting high. i would flush drugs down the toilet as a sign to myself that "this is it!".. and then go out the next day and buy more, feeling like a fucking idiot. then (and i know this is completely uncommon and totally personal) i woke up one day and just.. didnt feel like getting high. i had a new girlfriend.. the kids i was hanging out with started to seem like dicks to me.. and it just wasn't appealing to me anymore. i didn't want to get high, so i stopped. some people would say that i wasn't truly addicted if i could just turn it off like that, but i know that's not correct. i was completely hooked. i think i just replaced it with something else.. i didn't force myself to stop, i just truly WANTED to. so i guess what i'm saying is that if you truly think this is a problem.. if you want to slow down.. you have to realize that the path your on could lead to some bad places. i think saying "it's not serious, not yet at least" is a way of trying to fool yourself. even though it might be a little bit a weed and a couple of beers, you are obviously dependent at this point. now, i'm not necessarily saying that you're a full blown addict and you're destroying your life, because 1) i dont know you and 2) i didnt get that from what you were saying. and maybe your concerns stem from those around you and how you think you should feel, but don't really reflect your personal views on getting high and/or drunk. it's just really what you think is right for yourself.
  14. getting my second tattoo sometime by the end of the year. had an idea for this collage of all of my favorite cartoons from when I was a kid.. put this together as an idea: i don't really know exactly how this would work. i was thinking of just getting outlines of the characters, as I don't really like the look of colored tattoos after a couple of years. also, was thinking of wrapping it around my leg. still unsure about that as well. what do you guys think?
  15. disagree... less talk, more rock is where its at.
  16. on second thought, grand ledge might beat out unbearable by a smidge.
  17. inspired by the bands with no bad albums thread, list bands that you think have only gotten better with each album. must be an act with at least 3 or more releases! i'm going with: andrew jackson jihad bomb the music industry! sass dragons paul baribeau laura stevenson and the cans (if you count EPs) a lot harder than i thought it was going to be.
  18. probably one of my favorite posts of all time.
  19. based on all of his comments and interviews about SXSW beforehand, it almost seems as though he was looking for some sort of drama/confrontation. i've always given him the benefit of the doubt, not wanting to give in to internet gossip and rumors about what a dick he is. but this is some damning evidence. am i also to assume that the girl he hits on stage wasn't even the girl who spit on him, but instead somebody just holding him back?
  20. just wanted to say that i got a package in the mail from virgil with a couple of records and a check with the rest of the money he owed me.
  21. i used to feel bad for virgil when threads like these popped up. but the dudes fucking shady (and these threads are really funny.) i remember in the thread where virgil banned googlemyass, he noted that although he is admittedly in debt, atleast he didn't disappear. so much for that.
