  1. Okay thanks for that. I saw them at the Greek in Berkeley (back to back nights), where there isn't any assigned seating. Assuming they will be doing a stadium tour, as we expect, then it may be worthwhile to get some good seats.
  2. You guys weren't kidding about brutal shipping. 16.59 to ship to me in California. Not sure if paying an extra 13 bucks for this record is worth the potential "first access" to show tickets. Anyone part of their First Access program get presale codes for their last tour?
  3. Yeah Amoeba by me had some clear copies for like $17. Tempted to grab one myself since my blue copy is noisy as fuck. They're coming to town in January, stoked to see them on tour.
  4. Ehh. I have the original CD from middle school and it was never a great-sounding album from a fidelity standpoint (as with most NY hip hop before the late 90s). Just seems those folks on ughh didn't realize it was a bootleg when they ordered.
  5. Yeah, I really hope a company like Get On Down starts doing some of the early Rawkus catalog. There was such a golden age of good material coming out of Rawkus from like 96 - 2001. I should also mention that Amoeba had a clear vinyl bootleg of Train of Thought as well.
  6. Got my deluxe edition today. Very disappointed in this actually. The extra $7 was only for an extra outer sleeve with concrete texture on one side that simply goes over the regular edition vinyl. Like said above, should be at least a color variant or something.
  7. Yep -- both colors are bootlegs. I saw both at Amoeba, the cover is low-quality fake just like the other Euro bootlegs floating around. I have the Black Star one, and admittedly the sound quality is pretty damn good.
  8. Seems like these are the european bootlegs. I have the Black Star one that features two bonus tracks (the Respiration remix with Black Thought as well as a song called "Beautiful"). These may be the same people that did the Yeezus, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Watch The Throne, Section 80, etc bootlegs.
  9. Not necessarily. The mastering can differ on each format, even if it's recorded digitally (Purity Ring's Shrines is a recent example). In addition, they can master in the digital domain different for each format. Case in point, Random Access Memories was recorded all analog, then transferred to digital hi-res files for mastering, then mastered to each format. That's why the vinyl sounds different than the CD or hi-res download. But I'd agree with your general point, if it's the same mastering then the CD will sound better without the vinyl format's colorations. It doesn't mean that one can't buy vinyl for sound quality in 2013, specifically people who have invested a lot more money into their vinyl rig than their DAC.
  10. Thanks for the heads up on the blue. Just ordered a copy of it. Fuuuuuck the shipping charges from SC.
  11. This! The girl in front of me only wanted Mumford & Sons while she was there. The guy behind me was into old psych rock. Our tastes didn't overlap much at all, but was still fun chatting with them about their favorite records, shows, moments in music, etc. I find it hard to believe you can't find some common ground with a complete stranger to talk about for a couple of hours.
  12. I randomly decided to see what RSD was all about this past April after seeing the displays at Coachella Week 1. I was not previously a vinyl guy at all, and bought my first few records that day. I had a blast waiting in line with other music lovers, and I've been hooked ever since. Four months later, I'm at around ~300 records. So, I'm living proof that RSD does get people excited and into the hobby.
  13. Big Basin is also generally much less crowded than Muirwood as well. If you're driving up from the south, I'd def stop by Big Basin, and then maybe grab a meal in Santa Cruz (brunch at Zacharys, or lunch at Cafe Brazil). If you want some good exercise, try this 11-mile hike with some nice waterfalls (although waterfalls may not be great this time of year): http://www.bahiker.com/southbayhikes/bigbasin/waterfallloop.html. Obviously, there's smaller trails as well. To the OP: Try to look for a place in Downtown/West Oakland, Emeryville or Berkeley since you'll have a car and will be in the East Bay anyway. If you stay in downtown SF, you'll have to worry about how to park your car, as overnight parking fees get spendy fast. Also, you'll want to avoid downtown SF if you don't need to be there since it's so crowded. Hayward isn't that far from Oakland, but it's a good 40 minutes from SF. As far as things to do, what weekend will you be here? We can help you pinpoint some cool local events happening. If you'll be here for the weekend of Oct 4-5, the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass festival is happening in Golden Gate Park. They haven't announced the entire lineup yet, but it's free and worth checking out at least one day. Some really nice acts have been confirmed already: http://www.hardlystrictlybluegrass.com/2013/ As far as record shopping -- Amoeba in SF and Rasputin in Berkeley are must-visits. Also check out a smaller store like 1-2-3-4 Go! Records in Oakland or Rooky Ricardo's in SF (if you like Soul records). Food -- too many to name! Let us know what type of food you like, and we can narrow it down. Although, I will definitely endorse the earlier recommendation of San Tung. Tons of stuff to do. I'd suggest exploring SF by bike -- you can rent them at different spots. Golden Gate Park is closed to car traffic on Sundays, and it's all cyclists and roller bladers and whatnot. You can stop by the Academy of Sciences or De Young Museum -- both located inside the park. Also, you can bike from the Embarcadero, along Fisherman's Wharf, through Crissy Field up to the Golden Gate Bridge (and across) and back. Gorgeous ride that is one of my favorites in the area. Different bar scenes all over -- Mission bars have the hipsters and tech douchebags, Marina has the bros, North Beach has all the clubs that attracts everyone from around the Bay, Castro has all the gay bars obviously, Uptown Oakland is really on the come up nowadays with tons of hipsters, Shattuck in Berkeley has all the Cal students, etc.
  14. Holy crap -- The National tickets were only $5??? I just saw them at Outside Lands, and they were phenomenal (as usual). They're SUCH a great live band, with such great energy -- something that doesn't come across on their recorded material. They played with the Kronos Quartet as their string section, and then Bob Weir came out for Terrible Love. Such a dope set all around.
  15. Yeah, that sounds like the MoFi version. It's supposedly coming out at the end of this year, but keeps getting pushed back so who knows when it will really come out. They did a great job on In A Silent Way, so I'm pretty confident the KoB will be damn good too. On another note, Sea Change sounds effin' amazing. Probably the best-sounding record I have. Had some buddies over a couple of nights ago, and they were blown away.
  16. I got the T-shirt bundle. I figured they'd all be sent by now considering vinyl only folks have had theirs for a couple weeks. I guess I'll shoot them an email.
  17. Side B of LP1 on my copy has some loud pops going across 2 songs that is obviously from a scratch in the record (but I can't see it because it's clear colored). I tried emailing 4AD twice through their "Contact Us" link on their website, and have gone ignored so far. Let us know if Matador Direct gets back to you. Sucks that I've waited so long for this record, and can't even enjoy it due to it being scratched. My package had a small corner ding, but only like 5% as bad as yours. I'd for sure try to get that exchanged if I were you, considering the price premium of this set is mostly in the packaging and artwork.
  18. I emailed them on Monday and got a response back from Anna right away. She sent me a tracking, and it's still in Memphis (I'm in California), so it's still a few days out. Supposedly it's getting here at the end of the week though.
  19. Is there no sound at all, or is it low or distorted volume? Do any of the other inputs work correctly? Specifically, can you get sound out of your speakers from the receiver in any other fashion? Trying to narrow down what the issue is. With the information right now, anything could be the issue (speakers, receiver, turntable).
  20. Not sure how the quality is, but there's no Bound 2 on this either.
