  1. If anyone is in the Bay Area and is interested in this, the Amoeba in Berkeley had lots of copies of this album for 16.99. They also had bootlegs for: Watch The Throne Macklemore & Ryan Lewis - The Heist Joey Bada$$ - 1999 Kendrick Lamar - Section 80 Frank Ocean - Ultra/Nostalgia Frank Ocean - Unreleased Black Star There was a couple more of these bootlegs that I'm forgetting.
  2. So stoked for this set this weekend. The National --> D'Angelo (assuming he doesn't cancel) --> Paul McCartney is a helluva Friday night.
  3. Awesome post! Just had a couple suggestions for the headphones section: Seems to lean heavily Grado. I'd knock off the SR325 (too bright), and SR80 (no point since SR60 can be had for $20 less). +1 on the M50's making this list. That's hands down my favorite sub-$150 all-around versatile headphone. The V-Moda M-80 is another of my favorite portable on-ear headphones that have a smooth, unoffensive, versatile sound signature (I like it much more than the costlier M-100 model, which is too bassy IMHO). I'd add the Fostex T50RP as a sub-$100 giant slayer (especially modded with $15 in damping materials). Vintage Yamaha orthos are also fantastic steals (YH3s can be found on eBay for under $40 regularly). If we're including things at the ~$300 range, you'd definitely need to include the Sennheiser HD600, since that's probably the best bang-for-buck headphone out there. Just helped my co-worker build a system around the HD600 (with Bottlehead Crack amp, and Resonessance Concero DAC) that sounds killer. Also, the Hifiman HE-400 is a great modern ortho at $399. For IEMs, the Hifiman RE-400 is one of the best I've heard at $99. Really impressive for a "budget" IEM. And if one can stretch to $399, the custom Ultimate Ears UE-4 is supposed to be fantastic and tonally similar to my UE Reference Monitors.
  4. Just got my box set as well. One of the corners is a little scrunched in from shipping, but nothing worth losing sleep over. Stoked to give this a listen. Anyone know how many it's limited to?
  5. Received my 10 LPs today in 3 different shipments (2 from the same warehouse). None of them were in mailers. Who in the hell taught these people how to pack LP's? I can't believe they sell vinyl. My Ramones record came by itself, in a Nook Color box, with only crumbled paper on top. Suffice to say, all four corners are horrendously bent/smashed. The other shipments have 6 LPs and 3 LPs, each in a big box with only air packets on top. There are a few bent corners here and there, but not worth the hassle of returning.
  6. Got the Pinkerton and In A Silent Way today of the new releases. Also finally picked up Sea Change, since that seems to be becoming more rare / out-of-print these days. Had to get it at retail while I still can since it's $50+ on Discogs. They need to hurry up with that 45rpm 2LP Kind of Blue.
  7. Okay, cool. Looks like some people are in the same boat. I ordered when there was only like 30 left in stock, so I'd expect to get mine after most others. I guess if I don't get it within the next week, I'll contact them. The comments in this thread have piqued my curiosity about this record. I'd rather wait to play it on my system rather than stream it.
  8. While I agree with what you said, the "lazy" comments just come from the caliber of Jay-Z's rhymes since... the Black Album. Listen to a hungry Jay early on in his career, or the densely-crafted multi-syllable rhymes of Vol. 3.. Life and Times of S. Carter, and compare them to MCHG. He's always been commercial, but he used to rap like he gave a shit.
  9. I just seriously got into collecting records at the end of April, so I have lots to back catalogs to fill.
  10. I wonder if people who opted for premium shipping are less likely to get things cancelled, as they get fulfilled faster. Either way I just wrote them a disgruntled letter, because that's pretty unprofessional and noobish of them to allow customers to order items that they cannot fill. That's something I'd expect out of a small distro, but not a big business like B&N. My Isaac Hayes record got canceled too. So, I'm 5 for 7 so far, with 11 more pending.
  11. Dang, all of my unshipped items just got pushed back to August 21st. Get your shit together B&N. You'll never compete with Amazon with this bullshit.
  12. Just got shipping confirmation from Matador here as well. Hoping everyone that's waiting gets theirs soon.
  13. Still "Processing" here too. United we stand! I'm halfway paranoid that they will run out and cancel my order.
  14. Just got cancellation notice for The Sea & Cake's The Moonlight Butterfly. They shipped my Ramones record though. So 1 out of 2 so far. Hoping the other 16 go out with no issues.
  15. Anyone know a good source to get the 180g copies of their previous albums? I need to get Life Pursuit and Boy with the Arab Strap to round out the collection. I don't think Write About Love came in an 180g version right?
  16. I still see the blue vinyl quite frequently in my area. I was initially enamored by this album, but it hasn't gotten much play lately. But then again, it's been a great year for music. The first track is probably my favorite song of the year though. Such a good way to start off a Sunday morning.
  17. All of mine still say July 31st, fortunately. I'm fully expecting some of them to be pushed back. Would love to be pleasantly surprised though.
  18. Anyone still hasn't received shipping confirmation yet? Mine is still "Processing" while others have already received theirs. WTF.
  19. Ugh. $237 poorer now. Got some great deals though, so I can't complain. I noticed a few of the jazz records were from Jazz Wax or Wax Time records. Just a warning that these are European public domain bootleg labels and I'd steer clear of them. That Everybody Digs Bill Evans record for example is on Jazz Wax, and it's 12.99 here. You can get the OJC pressing for about the same price normally in stores, and it will be a better pressing sourced from analog. Only advantage is that the Jazz Wax one here on B&N will be 180g. Just a heads up. Surprised to see Art Blakey's Caravan is actually a 45rpm 2LP version. Also the copy of My Aim Is True is the MoFi. Great deal at 17.99.
  20. I've only heard Late Night Cinema before today. While I like that record overall, my nitpicky side feels it's slightly over-produced with a lot of layers pulling the songs into different directions, which I felt made the momentum and drive of the songs suffer because of that. Some people love that aspect of them, which I can totally understand. And like I said, I do like the record overall. Listening to NOIR for the first time today, it seems much more focused and tight (relatively). They're not trying to cram as many ideas on top of each other as LNC, which lets the songs breathe and keeps things interesting. So big ups to being turned onto this album. Can't wait for the vinyl now.
