Alright. I'll look at my local salvation army and goodwill for amps and speakers. Are there any brands to stay away from altogether?

I don't have the money for a really expensive setup. I want to listen to the records while getting alright sound quality and without damaging them with a cheaper turntable.

Does it come with cables to connect to a preamp? OK, now a really stupid question. I'm going to get the orbit, a cheap $20 preamp, and I'm not sure about the speakers. Do the speakers I buy have to have a volume knob on it?

In southern california in right around where Costa Mesa / Newport Beach meet my favorite place to go is Port of Sound Record Shoppe. Great mix of old and new vinyl and best prices in the area.

I would say it is. I wouldn't even consider a table without one.
