  1. I would like to say the record sounds great and the cards are really cool. Solid release.
  2. Black. Mine is nice and quiet. If you're not satisfied with your copy, I'd say see if you can trade it in, cause mine is definitely pretty great.
  3. I mean no guarantees obviously, but it will definitely put them in the mood.
  4. "Hey everybody, first and foremost thank you for preordering this record. We are still waiting for the label to send out all the copies of the deluxe Vinyl and CD's before we can ship anything out. There have been a bunch of snags in production in getting the Vinyl pressed and the Tarot cards made.At any rate, here is the digital download and all the bundles, Deluxe CDs, and Deluxe LPs will be sent out shortly!" Stoked to finally get a download for this, and glad they made a statement regarding the deluxe LPs.
  5. Just got my copy in. Comparing it to the original press for fun. Artwork/layout are almost completely identical, minus the legalese and logos. The jacket and sleeves on the original press are noticeably higher contrast/saturation than the new pressing, curious if that was intentional or just a printing difference. The sleeves on the OP also had one top shorter than the other for record removal, whereas the new sleeves have even tops. When it comes to the records themselves, the new 180g pressing is obviously thicker. Labels do not suffer the contrast discrepancy. As far as the sound, I've only had a chance to listen to the first disc, but wow. This is how this record was meant to sound. The range is there, the detail is there, it's quiet, the atrocious distortion is all but gone. I say "all but gone" because to my ears the latter half of The Scale did not sound up to par with the beginning of Pioneer, but it's still totally listenable. The rest of the experience so far has been stellar. The bass on Pioneer is thunderous. Heinrich Maneuver comes in sounding punchy as hell. Guitars sound accurate and drums tend to leap out at you. Playing this record for someone will get you laid.
  6. If Brand New doesn't show up on Twin Peaks: The Return playing Lit Me Up, I'm gonna be pissed.
  7. Got my copy yesterday, just now getting a chance to spin it. It's not very dynamic, I'll say that much. Cleans on Internal Cannon sound pretty solid, I just wish there were more range to it. Bass solo on Carpe Diem sounds great, but the rest of the song starts to suffer from some noticeable IGD. The rest of side A sounds solid, though, no other flaws. Will listen to the other side when I get more time. Coloring turned out nice, I'll post a photo later as well.
  8. Has anyone heard any word about non-backer vinyl? Kind of frustrating that release day has come and gone and my $36 record has neither shipped nor yielded any sort of digital download.
  9. Amazon's price just dropped to $24. If you haven't already pre-ordered this, it's a no-brainer.
  10. The joke isn't pressing black (which is a good move as plenty of people want black), it's that they always call it "audiophile black." For their past few releases they've mostly given their variants fun names: Sugar Into Tea, Ghost Green, Yellowcake, Bubble Gum Brain, Double Rainbow, Grimace Purple, Train Wreck Fire, Elephant Gray, etc. Then they offer black, but to go along with the descriptive names they call it Audiophile Black. They're not using it as a "stupid buzz word," it's just a little joke to go along with their fun variant names.
  11. Do you have a link? Curious to see exactly what they said. Typically "remastered for vinyl" means they've just taken the original master and optimized it for vinyl, which isn't a huge process but makes a lot of difference. I would be surprised if they're saying anything other than just that this isn't some brand new total remaster.
  12. Yeah it's kind of a running joke of sorts from mwY, that they offer the cool colors and then plain black for the "serious audiophiles." I for one have my entire mwY collection on colored vinyl, so grabbing a black copy all of a sudden would feel inconsistent. I think a lot of people are the same way.
  13. I'm sure it'll be green smoke instead of black smoke. Anyway the most interesting part to me is the listing says this was remastered for vinyl by Hans Dekline, who also did We Know Who Our Enemies Are, which sounded fantastic. Love that these guys always go all-out on their vinyl releases.
  14. Love that Sugar Into Tea! $26 shipped to me. Not sure what's up with $6 media mail, but for this record I don't care. Also is Sound Rink working for anyone? It's just showing up as a white page for me, tried in two different browsers.
  15. Super interesting to hear. Either way I'm very curious if this new reissue will end up the same quality as the CI pressing. Wonder if it would be the same plates.
  16. It's been a while since I've researched, but I believe the consensus was that neither pressing was outstanding. I believe the CI pressing (car cover, dark starburst) was known as being unpleasantly compressed, among other flaws (CI is owned by nice folks but every pressing I have by them is pretty rough). The 2x gatefold pressing (chicken cover, clear) was apparently better but still had some sort of issues. Mostly I remember considering getting either pressing but passing because of the negative reports, so I never ended up picking this up. Hopefully this pressing is competent, but that would be... a change of pace for Solid State.
  17. Heads up for anyone still looking for Leveler on vinyl, Solid State is putting a repress on their store tomorrow (Thursday) at 2 PM Pacific.
  18. Wow, September 22nd isn't that far off. I'm most attracted to the least limited variant, so I think I'm going to hold off for now. The single is good but doesn't make me want to leap into a PO, so I'll probably wait to hear another before I make a move.
  19. Geeze, I'm out of town for a couple days and miss an entire variant? Wanted that swamp but will settle for the splatter. Really dig that 7-inch book but having a hard time convincing myself to drop that much on an album I've only heard one song from, especially considering how little I listen to their last record these days. New song is probably better than anything on FIFAP, though, two listens in.
