Only the other day my wife was asking me what else do you want to do when we are in New York? And as luck would have it I saw your post yesterday, so I've just got to say she's really really pleased you are opening on the only weekend we are going to be in New York in the only 2 weeks we are going to be in the US this year, if I'm limping at all or maybe wincing from where the bruises don't show when I come in on opening day you'll know why.

Very best of luck with the opening! Looks great, sadly I won't be over from the UK any time soon as I've just returned from a trip state-side.
However, I'll hit you up if there is any must haves that I see on IG.
Let us know how the opening goes! Looks forward to hearing of success and seeing some store photos.

listen, I am going to say this once .
 
we are pricing everything in the store at the lowest possible discogs pricing
and anyone who knows me, knows that this isn't about making an extra ten bucks
or something, off of some new hard to find LP.
 
I have traveled to EU and Asia getting a lot of these records and have been (and still)
busting my ass and putting myself in debt to make this a reality.
 
if you don't like the idea, don't come.  simple as that.
 
I know a lot of people who'd like the chance to see  and check out the condition of an LP before buying it.
and I know a lot of people would like a shop that focuses on contemporary music and not a lot 
of dollar bins and stuff you can buy online.

This one is weird In the UK it's still cheaper for me to order the box set from Warner US than to order the indie exclusive or from the Warner UK store.
 
From Warner US the box set works out at £38.75 shipped to the UK, from Warner UK it works out at £58.99  and the indie exclusive from Plaidroom Records works out £39.51 shipped to the UK. Customs won't be stiffing me for £20 that should be about £12 so I'm sticking with my Warner US order and the UK clear for now.
 
And yes I'm double dipping on this one because as @lethalenforcer said it is the War on drugs.

Keep in mind, they are announcing this one really early. You'll have until the end of July to sign up. Chances are, the next one will be announced after October 1... meaning, if you sign up now, it will renew before the next one is announced. It's best to sign up mid July, so you have plenty of time to cancel if you don't like the next package. 

Nice score, is the Marantz etc what you already have or did all this come together?
 
Also is that Phase labs or Pass labs? If it's Pass labs then find a decent power amp or preferably some mono block power amps to go with it and bask in the high end glory.
 
The Entech is a DAC and if it came with the Planet then the original owner must have used it with it, that said try the Planet on its own as it's on board DAC is pretty good, it's one of the most analogue sounding CD players you will find so the Entech might actually remove some of that particular quality.
 
What are the model numbers of the tape deck and speakers? the tape deck might not be as shitty as you think if it was in with that level of kit.

It's not a Crosley. I actually got a really good deal on it from a guy who does high end installation. He said the installation he just finished had this extra turntable, so I bought it from him right then and there from his work van. It's a Crosbey. It sounds amazing!

I'm glad I didn't cave in and sell my original, I've been asked many times on Discogs to sell it and always politely declined. It's numbered 1111 which I've always liked.

The impedance and sensitivity is more important than the Watt rating because both speaker and amp manufacturers quote Watts in different ways and in some cases just lie.
 
I'm simplifying quite a bit as all the measurements affect each other and obviously you cant use a 500W amp on 100W speakers so they need to be close and in general impedance is measured in Ohms and you want to make sure your amp can cope with the speaker load but 4 to 8 is normal with 6 Ohms being common now. And Sensitivity is measured in DB with the higher the number meaning they are easier to drive so a Valve (tube) amp is generally looking for speakers with a sensitivity in the low 90's but a very beefy solid state amp can drive speakers that have a sensitivity in the mid 80's. Most modern hifi amps want to see something around 87 or 88db but there is leeway either way.

Forget the Onkyo and go and listen to the other 3 or 4 to see which you prefer and like the price of.
 
Also it's more a case of your speakers pairing with your amp than your turntable pairing with your amp so you'd need to replace your speakers, as it stands now I would say your speakers will be your weakest link so I'd replace those first but as you are replacing your amp you'd need to have a good idea which way you're going there ideally before you buy your speakers. Your best bet I would say is find somewhere that does an amplifier and speaker package deal

I'm a week in on my Odyssey amps and I can't say enough positive things. They have spent the last week breaking in and getting used to the other components in my system. The mids are coming alive, the highs are mellowing and the bass. I didn't realize just how bad (relatively) my ADCOM was handling the bass. But these new amps are killing it. They still have some break in time, but I love them so far and can't wait to hear where they end up.

As everyone else I'm sorry to hear of your loss but also glad to hear you are carrying on with his equipment.
 
As to your power amp I suspect it's an audionics and was quite a nice thing so I'd try elsewhere for repair, it was a well made US designed and made product and I would expect pretty rare now, it dates from the late 70's

To get something new of the same quality and lively sound I would expect would cost a lot of money and if used it would probably need to be something valve (tube) or possibly British which is not going to be that easy in the US so I would reach out to the people on the web page in the link above to see if they can help, you might need to ship to someone for repair but I think it would be worth it.

Put me down for all the variants of this, where do I sign? Definitely moved to the top of my wants list.
