  1. I love Mastodon, but if you're gonna sign your records, don't modify the pricetag. That is serious flipper-esque bullshit. Good thing the only thing I'm considering picking up tonight is some Gojira wax if the price is right.

Yeah, when I saw them back on a tour they did with Baroness there were pulling that shit and I haven't been to a Mastodon show since.  Two of the guys are from the town I'm from (where they were playing) so, to do that in your own home town where people know you makes it even worse in my opinion. I still love those dudes, and I still pick up their albums at reasonable prices when I can. But I can't abide that kind of price gouging.

  2. You could always do some research before listing prices. That way you don't look like even more of an idiot

    This.

I seriously hate selling on ebay I would rather just instantly sell to people who I know genuinely care about the music.

    FTHBBBBBBBBPPPPPTTTT.

So you're being lazy. I do the same thing so I can understand. The difference is I just sold a bunch of stuff for like half what it was "worth" because I wanted it gone. (Not on here, it wasn't records)

The way I did that was this:

    1) I found out what other people were selling stuff for. This is important. Otherwise you look like an asshat.

    2) I tried to sell it for slightly under that price for about...3 days. (and by tried I mean I posted one ad on craigslist.)

    3) When somebody said, "I'll give you $1,250 for the lot" instead of the $1500 I was asking, I said "Yeah, fuck it, whatever." (that said, total worth was about $2100.)

    4) Profit. I still ended up getting significantly more than I had originally paid, and someone got one hell of a bargain.

And that wasn't even on a site where "people care about blah, blah, blah".

So. What I'm saying is you don't have any feedback. You're new to the board. You came in first thing looking like an asshat.

Just be cool. Do research on pricing, set low prices and be prompt with shipping, and finally, stop posting so many fucking threads about the same shit.

That way maybe people will get off your bag about everything so far and you can sell some of these records and more in the future.

  3. Did you read what I wrote at the top? But also thanks for letting me know, as you can see since you notified me of that I edited my price. ALL the prices are vague, I will negotiate on any of them. Also if you know of a record online cheaper I will adjust that price accordingly.

The prices aren't vague, if they were, rather than being exact numbers they would say "looking to get somewhere around 'x' amount." Not "this is the price, offer less if you want."

I think what you meant is negotiable, although usually when a price is set like that there isn't too much room for negotiation because the person won't let it go for much less. (In your case due to sentimental value is the reason you've given before.) That's why you're catching so much flak.

In all honesty, and not trying to be a dick, you should just take this shit to eBay and take a long break from trying to sell on here.

  4. Nowadays I only drink socially...work functions and shows mainly, and really only to have something to do/drink.

Nowadays I only drink at home with my dog. Going to the bar is too expensive/annoying. I'd rather curl up with a good beer and my best buddy and play some videogames.

  5. I'm agreeing and disagreeing with this. Yes, progressive music is usually conceptually-based, but most people associate progressive music with a certain degree of experimental and complex sound. If prog is only a unified theme, then anyone that does a concept record is prog. And I didn't say that it was more progressive than Crack the Skye, simply that those two had more of a progressive metal feel to them than Remission and Leviathan. But that's just, like, my opinion, man.

    +1, I hear what you're saying.

Edit: I should point out that the +1 was more for Lebowski'ing me than anything else

  6. My local hot topic just expanded their vinyl section which is really cool. Weird set up though. It's basically a big, 12 open on both sides, ikea looking metal expedit, but all the vinyl is lying flat so you have to pick up each piece to look through it. Baby steps I guess. It's really nice to see regardless.

And a BIG high five for whoever decided ship to store when ordering vinyl online was the way to go. I don't know if Travis had anything to do with it, but ordering vinyl on the HT site and not having to pay shipping when sent to the nearest store for pickup is freaking awesome. I'm just a mile away from the nearest hot topic and it's been really nice to pick up orders this way.

That's a really good way to end up buying warped vinyl...

  7. The Hunter is amazing. This is coming from a Mastodon fanboy, but I didn't see anything wrong with the change in direction that was made with this record. Yeah, it was more progressive than sludge, but it's not really that different from Crack the Skye in that regard. Just not Remission or Leviathan, Pt. II like a lot of people wanted. That being said, I'm seeing these guys tomorrow and nothing is more exciting than the fact that I'm gonna see Naked Burn live. So stoked.

So...you're saying that The Hunter was more progressive than say...Leviathan or Crack the Skye? There is no way that is true. The band themselves said that it didn't have a unified theme, but more of a motif, whereas the other albums up to this point all were themed around an "element" and were more cohesive. That's what prog is, man, it isn't a "sound".
