  1. yeah, the music industry is a hard field to be in right now... i've been touring for the past 8 years, and this was one of the worst years for me... if it doesn't turn around in 2009, i'm going to have to find a new path. i'd love to give you some advice, but management is something i don't know much about. maybe try and get an internship at an agency.
  2. i've heard it's a waste of time and money... if you're going to learn live audio, get a job in a club. you'll learn more real world situations, which full sail for some reason doesn't teach.
  3. i would go to this, actually looks like i am going to the radio show they're playing in kc (airborne toxic event, anberlin, vedera, gaslight, eagles of death metal, and jack's manniquen) don't plan on seeing them play much more than 30 minutes though... with the radio shows i've been to, bands seem to cut their set times down so there's more time for radio dj's to do dumb shit. also, i haven't seen cake play in ages, but as i recall, it's a good show.
  4. i'm not totally sure on the validity of this rumour... but i've heard william elliot whitmore might be on this tour as well.
  5. i decided to hide today. i did do some grocery shopping (store was dead, which is rare) my buddy works in the mall and texted me a while ago... he is absolutely miserable right now.
  6. yeah, the one i went to had the democracy vinyl in the vinyl section, as well as a big display (with cd's and vinyl) in the middle of an aisle...
  7. i bought it... some of it's good some of it blows... it's pretty much what i expected. i was more impressed with the fact that the best buy i went to had a vinyl section... albeit kinda small selection and slightly overpriced... but nice to see they making the efforts. a few titles i remember seeing: am! new wave, a few beatles reissues, marvin gaye, metallica (i think it was) ride the lightning box set, coldplay... that's all i remember...
  8. i remember getting so much awesome stuff last year, and so many rad things happenine... a little early to be announcing, but whatever... http://www.pastemagazine.com/articles/2008/11/2nd-annual-record-store-day-to-take-place-april-18.html SECOND ANNUAL RECORD STORE DAY SCHEDULED FOR APRIL 18 By Henry Freedland on November 19, 2008 4:23 PM | Permalink | Comments (0) Anyone who saw Paste's July issue knows that we love record stores, and anyone who's been in one, ever, in their life, at any point, for any period of time—well, they should probably love 'em too. But just in case you're one of the three or four music fans who's still not into supporting your local independently owned shop, the second annual Record Store Day is in full planning mode, with an official sponsor of NARM (National Association of Recording Merchandisers). The event takes place on April 18, 2009, 364 days after the inaugural Record Store Day, which included over 300 participating stores. No big names or coinciding release dates have been boasted yet, but last year's affair included vinyl re-issues of Metallica albums and in-store signings from Steve Earle, Regina Spektor and Billy Bragg, amongst so many others. So here's to helping stores spike their sales again. Find your nearest participating venue here and read some artists loving on their favorite locales here.
  9. don't feel bad... it was actually supposed to be on thanksgiving. due to someone in the band having prior commitments, they moved the show up and all signs point to a full tour next year
  10. i read somewhere that next year there will be a full get up kids tour with the original hrc lineup opening... not sure if that's true or not
  11. just stumbled on the anti records sampler... new tracks from tim fite, nick cave, and what i'm assuming is a new william elliot whitmore track from his new record http://www.antilabelblog.com/
  12. i've had to bite my tongue for a while on this one... i really wanted to let the cat out of the bag when someone on the board was asking about it last week. but i was good, and waited... the get up kids first show since 2005 is sunday night at the record bar in kansas city. link for story (not my site) http://backtorockville.typepad.com/back_to_rockville/2008/11/they-get-in-10.html#comments and the record bar's announcement is coming in the next couple days: http://therecordbar.com/docs/show.php?show=1639

  17. http://www.victoryrecords.com/cat/3 all the colored vinyl has 'pressing info' but really, how reliable are these numbers gonna be. it's a shame cause there's stuff i'd like to have, but i can't bring myself to let him have a single dollar from me.

  21. not that i care much about the series this year... not a fan of either team, but in the bottom of the 5th, the rays made tuesday free taco day at taco bell.
  22. Right you are; the crash was most likely on Highway 5, as that runs straight through there. Either way, it's hours and hours away from the stretch of I-80 in Wyoming where most of these accidents are taking place. i was involved in a van and trailer spinout on that stretch of I80 a couple years ago while driving to denver. it's great to hear that everyone on am!s bus is ok. i've been touring for the last 8 years, and a situation like this is my biggest fear.
  23. i represent both kansas and missouri... lived on the kansas side for most of my life, now live in kcmo proper... missouri kid now, but a kansas kid at heart.
